Did anyone else have a problem recording Lucifer Rising?
It recorded okay to my DVR, but when I went to put it on DVD last night I got a "Copyright Protected, Cannot Record" error.
I am SO pissed. I've got the entire season recorded to DVD, and I get to the last episode and now it won't record?? ARGH!! And I can't figure out why I'm getting that message, either. I thought maybe it was because of the music, but every other episode with music recorded just fine.
So I'm appealing to you, my dear f-list. Does anyone have Lucifer Rising that they could record to DVD for me? My DVD players won't play .avi files, so I need a copy directly from the TV. I would gladly pay for the materials and postage.
Can anyone help me? Please? :-)

Date: 2009-05-18 04:22 pm (UTC)Can you just watch the show on your computer? Because I have the .avi file up on my webspace if you want to dl it and watch it that way.

Date: 2009-05-18 04:43 pm (UTC)Yeah, I can watch on my computer, but I'm one of those people who really hate to not sit in front of the TV and watch, you know?
If I can't get it on DVD, I'll download it from your site, thanks.
P.S.- I got my SPN checks from Unique Checks and they rock! :-)

Date: 2009-05-18 04:46 pm (UTC)I'm wondering if I would've tried to record Lazarus while it was actually on, if it would've worked. If only because it's stored on the DVR itself that I can't copy it now.
Grrr....

Date: 2009-05-18 06:08 pm (UTC)From what I found during the research I did, it sounds like Microsoft changed something because so many ppl had figured out how to get around the current DRM system. I'm really hoping this won't affect being able to rip the episodes when the dvds come out. But something tells me that's going to be a problem, too. Here's hoping folks figure out a new way to get around the "improved" DRM system before too long. *sigh*

Man, I hope so, because if I can't ever record anything off the TV to keep I'm going to be seriously pissed off.

Date: 2009-05-18 04:47 pm (UTC)I can send it to you you record it then send it back..You'll have to FF through the other episodes,I don't know how to program the dvd to begin at the episode you need.

Date: 2009-05-19 01:05 am (UTC)but I'm pretty sure you can burn .avi files to a DVD that can play on any DVD player, you just have to find a program that converts the .avi to the right format before it burns it to the disk.
I tried to do some research into this for programs for the Mac, but after about 15 minutes of technical speak on all these websites my brain hurt so bad I gave up. :-)
but I can look through stuff later to find the answer for you if you still need it!
Please don't go out of your way, but if you come across it I'd be more than grateful!
Hugs!

Date: 2009-05-19 05:54 am (UTC)I see someone is already mailing you a DVD below, but I'll go ahead and email you with what I've got in case you want it for future reference. ^_^

Date: 2009-05-19 07:55 pm (UTC)Thank you so very much for your email! I was rushing to get ready for work this morning so didn't have a chance to read the attached document, but from what you said, this sounds exactly what I'm looking for. :-) And thank you for the info on those other communities! I'll be watching to see if they open up membership again.
Don't Mac's rock? :-)

Date: 2009-05-19 08:26 pm (UTC)I actually just went out and bought myself some discs to test this out, so I'll let you know how it goes. The tutorial post looks like it deals with a bit older version of the program, but the new version is similar enough that I've been able to navigate through the program fine. I may email you again about a couple things not mentioned in the tutorial that, if I'm correct, you'll need to make sure and change in the preferences before you try to burn a DVD. I'll have to make sure I do it successfully myself first though LOL!

Date: 2009-05-20 07:40 pm (UTC)I worked on both platforms for years, but last year I finally decided to go only with Macs, both at home and at work and it's been a great decision. :-)

I really can't thank you enough for helping me out with all of this, and being the test guinea pig, too! Let me know how it goes! Hopefully this could be the end to my problem. :-)

Date: 2009-05-20 08:10 pm (UTC)I have successfully burned all of season 4 though - yay! With the newer version, I wouldn't mess with the audio or video bitrate - it comes set higher than the version used in the tutorial, so I just left it and my discs turned out fine. The only other thing to note is to make sure that in the preferences, under the Video tab and then under "General," that you set the region to NTSC. When I downloaded it mine was set to PAL, which I believe is the encoding for European DVD players - it will need to be NTSC here in the US unless you have a DVD player that plays both.
It's a pretty great program, didn't seem to take too long to me and the discs came out fine. The only drawback is that you can't make a DVD menu, so if you're putting multiple episodes on one disc like I was you just have to skip a whole episode by hitting the next button if you want to watch something other than the first ep on the disc. Other than that, it's awesome! Let me know if you have any problems, and I hope it works out for you!

Date: 2009-05-28 07:58 pm (UTC)Again, thank you SO much for your continued info about this program. I'm thrilled to know that it worked perfectly for you! I have high hopes that I'll have the same success. :-)
Good to know about the audio/video, the NTSC and the no DVD menu. I think I may just put 2 to a DVD so I don't have to skip past a bunch to get to the episode I want.
You're awesome for helping me out like this!!
Hugs!!

Date: 2009-05-19 01:06 am (UTC)A question
Date: 2009-05-19 12:14 am (UTC)So, do you have still problems?
Re: A question
Date: 2009-05-19 01:08 am (UTC)I record an episode by pulling it off of my DVR, which is connected to my TV set and my DVD recorder. Then I can take that DVD and watch it anywhere in my house, or on any of my computers.
My DVD player/recorder just isn't made to play .avi files. :-(
So yep, still having problems!
Then

Date: 2009-05-19 01:11 am (UTC)I tried researching this for a program that works for the Mac, and after about 15 minutes of reading pages and pages technical speak on these websites my brain hurt and I gave up. :-( These programs are just way too sophisticated or something. Isn't there something simple out there that will let me do just that? Argh!

Have you got another wincest zine coming out? :)
Re: I can
Date: 2009-05-28 12:57 am (UTC)"Handbasket to Hell" - great title!
As for another wincest zine from me, I'd really love to do another one. Especially since yours and mine are the only ones I know of! There needs to be more wincest in zine format! :-)
Re: I can
Date: 2009-05-28 04:48 am (UTC)Yeah, there really need to be more Wincest zines, especially since there are SO many Gen ones. Bah!
If you don't have enough for a whole zine, I'd love to have you trib for "Handbasket"! :)
