Did anyone else have a problem recording Lucifer Rising?

It recorded okay to my DVR, but when I went to put it on DVD last night I got a "Copyright Protected, Cannot Record" error.

I am SO pissed. I've got the entire season recorded to DVD, and I get to the last episode and now it won't record?? ARGH!! And I can't figure out why I'm getting that message, either. I thought maybe it was because of the music, but every other episode with music recorded just fine.

So I'm appealing to you, my dear f-list. Does anyone have Lucifer Rising that they could record to DVD for me? My DVD players won't play .avi files, so I need a copy directly from the TV. I would gladly pay for the materials and postage.

Can anyone help me? Please? :-)

Lazarus Rising? Or Lucifer Rising?

Can you just watch the show on your computer? Because I have the .avi file up on my webspace if you want to dl it and watch it that way.

Whoops! That'd be LUCIFER Rising. :-) Thanks for the catch, Kim!

Yeah, I can watch on my computer, but I'm one of those people who really hate to not sit in front of the TV and watch, you know?

If I can't get it on DVD, I'll download it from your site, thanks.

P.S.- I got my SPN checks from Unique Checks and they rock! :-)

I seldom watch TV on my TV *g* Mostly, unless I'm watching Animal Planet or a movie with Matthew, I watch it on my computer. *shrugs* So that's always my default setting :) But yeah, feel free to grab it regardless -- if you want to watch it again while you're waiting for a more permanent fix :)

You're not crazy and it's not just you. I ran into the same problem with getting my ep through Amazon.com. Something changed this past week that makes the DRM system a lot more restrictive.

Oh, GREAT. So not what I wanted to hear! I was hoping it was an isolated incident. But even through Amazon?? This is total crap that we're not allowed to KEEP these episodes and watch them somewhere other than on the one TV that recorded it.

I'm wondering if I would've tried to record Lazarus while it was actually on, if it would've worked. If only because it's stored on the DVR itself that I can't copy it now.

Grrr....

Tell me about it! I spent most of the weekend fooling with it because it messed up my ability to even watch the episode on my computer. After spending $60 and 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft, I was finally able to figure that particular problem out by myself after doing a couple hours of research online. So, now I can watch it, but I can't use it for vidding or put it on a dvd. *grumble*

From what I found during the research I did, it sounds like Microsoft changed something because so many ppl had figured out how to get around the current DRM system. I'm really hoping this won't affect being able to rip the episodes when the dvds come out. But something tells me that's going to be a problem, too. Here's hoping folks figure out a new way to get around the "improved" DRM system before too long. *sigh*

Oh man, this SUCKS.

Man, I hope so, because if I can't ever record anything off the TV to keep I'm going to be seriously pissed off.

I can send it to you you record it then send it back..You'll have to FF through the other episodes,I don't know how to program the dvd to begin at the episode you need.

Also if you have Monster at the End of the Book,my recorder didn't do that one :(

Hey Barb! *waves* Just happened to see this. I don't know much about burning DVDs, but I'm pretty sure you can burn .avi files to a DVD that can play on any DVD player, you just have to find a program that converts the .avi to the right format before it burns it to the disk. I have ways to figure this out given the time - I don't have time at the moment, but I can look through stuff later to find the answer for you if you still need it! Just wanted to let you know that it's a possibility!

I tried to do some research into this for programs for the Mac, but after about 15 minutes of technical speak on all these websites my brain hurt so bad I gave up. :-)

but I can look through stuff later to find the answer for you if you still need it!

Please don't go out of your way, but if you come across it I'd be more than grateful!

Oh, you have a Mac! I should have asked - I didn't even have to go searching - I just recently got a Mac and so already had the answer to this one. I don't know why I assumed you had a PC...I guess I just assume that by default!

I see someone is already mailing you a DVD below, but I'll go ahead and email you with what I've got in case you want it for future reference. ^_^

Hey Elle!

Thank you so very much for your email! I was rushing to get ready for work this morning so didn't have a chance to read the attached document, but from what you said, this sounds exactly what I'm looking for. :-) And thank you for the info on those other communities! I'll be watching to see if they open up membership again.

Don't Mac's rock? :-)

Macs SO rock! I'm loving mine already and I've barely had it a week. I don't know why I didn't switch sooner! It's so much more powerful than a PC.

I actually just went out and bought myself some discs to test this out, so I'll let you know how it goes. The tutorial post looks like it deals with a bit older version of the program, but the new version is similar enough that I've been able to navigate through the program fine. I may email you again about a couple things not mentioned in the tutorial that, if I'm correct, you'll need to make sure and change in the preferences before you try to burn a DVD. I'll have to make sure I do it successfully myself first though LOL!

I worked on both platforms for years, but last year I finally decided to go only with Macs, both at home and at work and it's been a great decision. :-)

I'll have to make sure I do it successfully myself first though LOL!

I really can't thank you enough for helping me out with all of this, and being the test guinea pig, too! Let me know how it goes! Hopefully this could be the end to my problem. :-)

It's no problem! I was in the process of figuring it out anyway, because I'm catching a friend up with the show and she's almost to season 4. I wanted to be able to play it on the TV for her instead of my laptop, so I figured it was time to figure out how to put my shiny new Mac to work. ^_^

I have successfully burned all of season 4 though - yay! With the newer version, I wouldn't mess with the audio or video bitrate - it comes set higher than the version used in the tutorial, so I just left it and my discs turned out fine. The only other thing to note is to make sure that in the preferences, under the Video tab and then under "General," that you set the region to NTSC. When I downloaded it mine was set to PAL, which I believe is the encoding for European DVD players - it will need to be NTSC here in the US unless you have a DVD player that plays both.

It's a pretty great program, didn't seem to take too long to me and the discs came out fine. The only drawback is that you can't make a DVD menu, so if you're putting multiple episodes on one disc like I was you just have to skip a whole episode by hitting the next button if you want to watch something other than the first ep on the disc. Other than that, it's awesome! Let me know if you have any problems, and I hope it works out for you!

Hey Elle!

Again, thank you SO much for your continued info about this program. I'm thrilled to know that it worked perfectly for you! I have high hopes that I'll have the same success. :-)

Good to know about the audio/video, the NTSC and the no DVD menu. I think I may just put 2 to a DVD so I don't have to skip past a bunch to get to the episode I want.

You're awesome for helping me out like this!!

Hugs!!

A question

From: [identity profile] winchesterwoman.livejournal.com
Hi! I can“t help you with that things, because I don“t live in the us. But a doubt came to my mind when you wrote down that your DVD players won“t play .avi files??? Really? how you record an episode? because my DVD player is so old and I can watch it on the DVD just I burned the episode in the Burner dvd of my lap, and that“s it. Because in that moment the files stop to being .avi

So, do you have still problems?

Hi there!

I record an episode by pulling it off of my DVR, which is connected to my TV set and my DVD recorder. Then I can take that DVD and watch it anywhere in my house, or on any of my computers.

My DVD player/recorder just isn't made to play .avi files. :-(

So yep, still having problems!

Then

From: [identity profile] winchesterwoman.livejournal.com
Maybe it is stupid. but, why not you try this. put the DVD where you have the episode, and get it to the computer, then get out the file form this, and put it in the computer, and then copy it again in that DVD but using the DVD Burner from you computer. Do that. And will see if that help.

I don't have an answer for you except to say that if this is the way the eps continue to tape, I dodn't think you'll have to give up re-watching the eps on your tv. I think if you invest in a good .avi to DVD file converter program and download the avis, convert them and then put them on a DVD, that should work. Then you can still watch and re-watch on TV, and I would think, use the eps for vidding.

Ooh, end of June is a bit too soon for me to write a story, but I've got this piece of art here (http://i40.tinypic.com/iwssyb.jpg) that I just recently did that you can have if you think it might fit in somewhere in the zine. I can change the text or remove it all together. If you can't use it, no problem!
