Supernatural Friday Five
Jan. 11th, 2008 09:41 am1.) How do you feel about the fact that Supernatural reruns are going to be replaced by Reaper after the next four episodes air?
I'm actually not that upset about it. That probably comes from the fact that this isn't the first time Reaper has taken our timeslot. And the fact that we all know that Dawn O. doesn't like SPN, doesn't "get it" and that Reaper is her baby. Not surprising that she'd push SPN to the side for Reaper. But I'm also not worried about SPN's chances at renewal, since it's been leaving Reaper in the dust, ratings wise.
2.) Have you read either/both of the Supernatural companion novels? If so, how would you like future Supernatural novels to compare or contrast to the two existing novels?
I've read both companion novels. Hated "Nevermore" with a passion but greatly enjoyed "Witch's Canyon". As for future SPN novels - they need to throw DeCandido under a bus. He has NO concept of Sam and Dean as characters and his book with two plotlines was boring and muddled. (Unfortunately I know he's contracted for the next novel [sigh]) Now Mariotte got it right. I loved the way he portrayed Sam and Dean and really enjoyed the flashbacks he put in there. While there was one point I expressed disbelief at one point of the plot, overall it was cohesive.
So I'm all for future SPN novels being written in the style of "Witch's Canyon" - good brother stuff, good dialogue between the boys, a plot that moves along and has just enough creepy/scary stuff in there, too.
3.) How has the WGA strike/hiatus affected you? Has it helped you to explore other parts of the Supernatural fandom? Or do you feel yourself drifting away?
I drifted away before season 3 even started, because of the (pointless, IMO) introduction of Ruby and Bela. I've only seen 2 episodes this season - Bedtime Stories and A Very Supernatural Christmas - because they are the only two that feature just Sam and Dean.
So because I know that one or the other girl will be in 3 of the next 4 scheduled to air, the strike isn't affecting me, since I don't have a desire to see any of those episodes anyway.
4.) If Dean dies, what do you think Sam will do? Will he continue to hunt? Live an 'apple pie' life? Jump off a cliff? Or something else?
I don't see Sam living an 'apple pie life' at all if Dean dies. I know that that's what Dean wants him to do, to get back to 'normal' but I believe Sam will continue hunting. For revenge, if nothing else. Killing everything he can, because an evil thing took his brother from him, and the world needs to be rid of evil so that this doesn't happen to another family.
5.) Do you think the supernatural creatures that the boys fight off every week are too two-dimensional? Should the writers give them more substance sort of like they did with Madison from "Heart" so that it's harder for the boys to just blast them away?
I think it would be great if they interacted more with some of the creatures instead of just blowing them away. I liked the moral dilemma that was brought up in Bloodlust, too, that not everything is black and white in the supernatural world.
