Supernatural Friday Five (on a Saturday)

1. Which character(s) did you start off disliking/not caring about, but now like/care about?
That would have to be John. I really, really didn't like him for most of season 1. Then by the time Salvation came around I was starting to see him in a different light. Then after IMTOD I realized I'd come to like him. Now he'll never win Father of the Year from me and I'll never be able to completely forgive him for the burden he placed upon Dean since childhood, and especially in IMTOD. But I know that he loves his children and tried to do his best raising them in the life he chose. And really, he made the ultimate sacrifice for one of them. That pretty much wipes out all past transgressions, don't you think?
2. If you had a choice, would you rather visit the Roadhouse or the Winchesters' old house in Lawrence?
Oh, Lawrence, hands down! Because that place has history with the Winchesters, and I thought the Roadhouse and all it's occupants was the worst thing to happen to season 2. It felt like they shoehorned in the Roadhouse and it was just never a good fit, IMO.
3. When your real-life family/friends/acquaintences ask you about Supernatural, how do you act and how to you treat the show/refer to the show?
Ha! My friends and family know better than to ask me unless they want their ear talked off. :-)
4. Do you like the flashback opening sequence or would you prefer Supernatural have opening credits like shows such as One Tree Hill and The X-Files?
I wish there would be some real opening credits. And I also wish that they could maybe swap Jared and Jensen's names next season - give Jensen a chance to be listed first. :-)
5. What are things that you have to do/have before Supernatural comes on?
Hmmm....well I usually chase the husband out of the room first. *g* But then nothing special except turning off most of the lights in the living room and sitting down with my best buddy charityflint to squee and flail for the next hour. :-)

Date: 2007-05-12 05:45 pm (UTC)Well, I started out liking John (Pilot), then trying to figure him out (Pilot, Home, Asylum), then disliking him (Something Wicked), then beginning to figure him out/liking him (Dead Man's Blood, Salvation, Devil's Trap, IMTOD), then just before he died, liking him (for apologizing to Dean for making him grow up so fast, etc.), disliking him again (for dumping the secret on Dean), and then loving him again (for saving Dean's life). John and I have a complicated relationship.
I also started out liking Ellen, but dislike her tremendously at this point (on the other hand, I've disliked Jo from the beginning!)
2. If you had a choice, would you rather visit the Roadhouse or the Winchesters' old house in Lawrence?
Well, now that the Roadhouse has been destroyed, there's no reason for me to have to go there to burn it down, so it would have to be Lawrence.
My close friends know exactly how I feel about the show, and two of them are major converts. They now love it almost as much as I do. My 3rd friend, who is also my housemate, is not as sold on the show. He's watched it a number of times (and definitely thinks J&J are hot!), but he usually nitpicks the show apart. I did, however, get him to watch AHBL1 with me (actually it was surprisingly easy) and he really liked it - not a nitpick to be heard - and he is planning to watch next week's ep. After this week's ep was over he said it was really good but that that didn't mean he was going to watch all the old episodes so I shouldn't even try! I will, however, eventually make a fan out of him - it took awhile with XF, too!
I don't know. I've not seen OTH's opening, and I eventually got bored with XF's opening - I mean, all we basically got was the actor's names, no pictures of them, etc. (so basically what we have with SPN). I use to like the openings of shows when I was younger, when they would have a theme song and show scenes from the show or shots of othe stars - S&H pops into my mind - and TS had a pretty cool opening. But I love some of the flashback openings that SPN has had - especially the one before Salvation, the one set to Carry On, My Wayward Son. And I do agree that it would be nice if they would switch up the order of J&J's names - I often wonder how it was decided as it's not alphabetical, but I also think J&J couldn't care less!
Well, Thursday nights has become sort of a ritual for me - it's the night Jerry and I stop on the way home from work to pick up dinner from our favorite Thai noodle house because we usually don't get home til 7:30 or so and I don't want to have to mess with cooking something! Then, like you, Barb, I turn down the lights and settle down to be mesmerized for an hour!

Date: 2007-05-15 12:42 am (UTC)Dude, yes! That's it exactly! I have the same problem with the man. :-)
I also started out liking Ellen, but dislike her tremendously at this point (on the other hand, I've disliked Jo from the beginning!)
We're such on the same wavelength it's scary! LOL!
Well, now that the Roadhouse has been destroyed, there's no reason for me to have to go there to burn it down
ROTFL! Oh, Deborah you're killing me!
Hey, keep working on that housemate! No one can resist the pull of the Winchesters for long. :-)
But I love some of the flashback openings that SPN has had - especially the one before Salvation, the one set to Carry On, My Wayward Son
See, that's the kind of opening credits SPN needs every week - set to a different classic rock song. That'd be awesome!
Mmmm...comfort food and the Winchesters - love it!

Date: 2007-05-13 01:33 am (UTC)Or, in the case of this last week, sit staring into space, slack-jawed and shell-shocked.
Good grief. How are we supposed to survive until next Thursday???

Date: 2007-05-13 02:47 am (UTC)All the Roadhouse people...I hated them then, and I till pretty much hate them, except for Ace (?- the dude with the mullet, for some reason I can't remember if that's his name or not)...and of course he doesn't look like he'll be coming back.
2. If you had a choice, would you rather visit the Roadhouse or the Winchesters' old house in Lawrence?
Random question, but I love it when they go back to Lawrence for some reason, so I'd rather visit the house. It gives me jitters and stuff. Roadhouse kind of annoys me.
3. When your real-life family/friends/acquaintences ask you about Supernatural, how do you act and how to you treat the show/refer to the show?
It's funny because I rarely get asked. i'm usually the one to brng it up and talk about how amazing it is and how I'm sad about whatever happened in the most recent episode or how much it made me laugh or howfucking amazing jensen is. Haha. But that's a rare occasion.
4. Do you like the flashback opening sequence or would you prefer Supernatural have opening credits like shows such as One Tree Hill and The X-Files?
I like it they way it is even though I can't sing the theme song....it's more like a whoooggghshs, but it's fun! It makes me happy for some reason. But i wish that it said 'starring Jensen Ackles', too, not just Jared.
5. What are things that you have to do/have before Supernatural comes on?
Watch Smallville

Date: 2007-05-15 12:47 am (UTC)Yay for Lawrence! Roadhouse is totally annoying. But no more! Ha!
Ok, so when you start talking about SPN do you get blank stares or are your family and friends interested in what you're talking about?
Singing the theme song! Hee! Loved that. Yeah, let's give our boy Jensen some love in the credits, too!
Smallville! Geez, I totally forgot to mention that, too.

Date: 2007-05-15 06:49 am (UTC)RIP Roadhouse!
Haha mostly people act like they're listening and saw "oohs" or "aahhs" or "awws" at the right times....but not much else. uuugh it's frustrating i want all my friends watching it!!!!! i've only managed to recruit one friend but he only catches up by downloading the episodes and not contributing to the ratings...but i'm glad he jumped on. haha anyone who hasn;t is missing out!
hahaha, the theme "song"...haha i ljust think it's cool.
haha yeah. thursday nights are strictly smallville/supernatural nights. best day of the week! i plan my life around it.
Friday Five (on a Sunday!)
Date: 2007-05-13 04:31 am (UTC)2. Lawrence, of course!
3. I'm the lone SPN fan in my family, poor dears.
4. Love the flashbacks--never get tired of seeing Dean snatched by Sam into the motel room.
5. Every Thursday is black t-shirt/blue jeans day. Why? Don't know. At 8 or 8:30 I get my clothes ready for the next day, lock the doors, etc; I don't want my mind to wander about ANYTHING during SPN, even tho I'm taping, not even the commercials. I've been lucky that I've never gotten an important call, but that's what voicemail is for, right?
Keeping all fingers/toes crossed...

Date: 2007-05-15 12:31 am (UTC)Yay, Lawrence!
Oh, the only fan? I'm sorry! Got any of your friends that watch?
Hee - that snatching bit is funny, isn't it?
Ah, clothing! That's what I forgot to mention! I wear an SPN shirt every Thursday and people at work usually ask me about it.
