Yes, folks, we're inching closer to the date of THAT EPISODE, when soon I will no longer need my cowboy manip Jensen/Dean in my icon because we're going to get THE REAL THING. Is it April 22nd yet???

Here from SpoilerTV is the official synopsis, along with my own comments...

“SUPERNATURAL” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET)
“Frontierland” (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)

SAM AND DEAN RETURN TO THE WILD, WILD WEST — While searching for a way to defeat Eve, Dean stumbles upon Samuel Colt’s (guest star Sam Hennings) journal in the Campbell library. Realizing Samuel might have the answer to their problems, Sam and Dean ask Castiel (Misha Collins) to send them back in time so they can meet the man himself. While Sam is a bit reluctant to time travel, Dean is beside himself with excitement to return to the Wild, Wild West. Guy Bee directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin with story by Andrew Dabb, Daniel Loflin & Jackson Stewart (##617).

Now while I'm still excited about this episode, I'm also a bit dismayed to see that it's Dabb and Loflin writing it. [sigh] I have a love/hate relationship with them. I hated every episode they wrote in season four, but I enjoyed several they wrote in season five. Please dear GOD don't let them screw this up. Though I guess I should be thankful that Sera Gamble didn't write it, because for SURE it would be a piece of crap.

Ok, raise your hand if you think Dean is going to turn out to be the hunter that Samuel Colt makes the gun for. Remember John telling Sam and Dean that Colt made it for a hunter? :-)  I think that would turn out to be WICKED. And we've all seen the preview of Dean in that smoking hot duster getting ready for a showdown with the gun. Holy. Crap. :-)

Save a horse, ride a cowboy, baby!

HOPEFULLY. But after hearing Jared say how he gets 6 pages of dialogue with the Colt character it leads me to believe that Dean won't even get to interact with him and the spotlight will be on Sam. Again. Always.

Oh, trust me, that part does NOT make me happy, and would seem to be par for the course for this season of "The Sam Winchester Show - with special guest-star, Dean 'Who?' Winchester". *grrrrrrrrrrrrr*

No, Gamble couldn't possibly make it more obvious that her predominant intention this season was to push Dean (and Jensen) out of the story and the limelight while trying to turn Sam into Dean (which begs the question of what even his most rabid supporters really think of the character of "Sam"). I gave her the benefit of the doubt before the season started playing out - I thought she'd be a professional. Instead, she went full-throttle "Becky the Vapid Fangirl" instead. Way to set back women in high-ranking entertainment positions by decades, Sera.

Still, I have to hang onto some shred of hope that there's more to Jensen's enthusiasm for this one episode than just the clothes. He's usually not that superficial, especially since as an actor he plays dress-up all the time anyway.

Also, since I firmly believe Dean is going to have even less of a presence and part to play in this year's finale than he did in "Suck Song", I just have a feeling the western may be a pacifier of sorts, an effort to make it up to Jensen a little for the screwing over he got this year - especially since for once he wasn't so quiet about it, which had to surprise the producers (not that it did him much good to complain, apparently).

Oh, I could go on for hours about Season Sux - but I'll spare you. ;) Fingers and toes crossed for the western. :D

I have to say I'm not surprised. I predicted this from the moment it was announced that Sera was taking over this season. People told me I shouldn't jump the gun before S6 even started, but hey, look who turned out to be right. I rest my case.

while trying to turn Sam into Dean (which begs the question of what even his most rabid supporters really think of the character of "Sam")

Wow, I didn't even think of that, of what Sera's even done to Sam's character. She's certainly made me despise him all over again for most of this season, and I'm not a die-hard Sam girl.

True, true. Here's hoping you're right and Jensen has more than two scenes before Sam takes over the entire episode.

Also, since I firmly believe Dean is going to have even less of a presence and part to play in this year's finale than he did in "Suck Song",

Well unfortunately that's a given, based on the spoilers saying the season finale will concentrate all on Sam. Gosh, what a surprise, Sera!

I just have a feeling the western may be a pacifier of sorts, an effort to make it up to Jensen a little for the screwing over he got this year

Nothing like throwing the dog a bone, eh? Sorry we treated you and Dean like crap this year, so here's a bright, shiny episode when Dean actually gets to DO something! Yay!

especially since for once he wasn't so quiet about it, which had to surprise the producers (not that it did him much good to complain, apparently).

I loved that he spoke up about his displeasure. Interesting that he never said a bad thing in all the years Eric was running the show, but as soon as Sera takes over he starts speaking up. Hmmm….coincidence? I think not. Yes, too bad it meant nothing in the end, but I applaud him for not taking it lying down.

Oh, I could go on for hours about Season Sux -

Ah, how I love that description. :-)
