Thanks, and some SPN musings

I wanted to thank all of you for words of sympathy and the hugs for the loss of my friend's father yesterday. It was a rough day, as I sat at my computer last night and cried as I tried to sign the guest book at the funeral home's website. How do you sum up someone's life and what they meant to you when you only have 250 words? It was nearly impossible.
Missy and her mother have decided not to hold any type of service, and on one hand I can understand, as they have family and friends in Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas and Florida. It would just be too difficult to arrange something that everyone could attend. On the other hand it makes me sad that I won't have a chance to say goodbye to Ron.
Both Ron and Marge were involved with a wildlife rehabilitation center in Arkansas, which Ron talked about quite a bit to me over Labor Day, and Missy is asking for donations to the center in her father's name, which I think is a wonderful thing.
Looking back, I think it was fate that I was able to go up to Wisconsin with Missy that weekend and see her parents after so many years. That even though I didn't know it, Ron's time was drawing short and I was given a chance to see him one more time. So thank you, to whatever higher power gave me those four days.
~~~~~
In an effort to take my mind off of things last night, before I went to bed I put in my favorite SPN season one DVD, with Home, Asylum, Scarecrow and Faith on it.
I started with Home, and wow, what an impact that scene with Mary and Sam makes now after seeing In the Beginning, with us finally understanding Mary's "I'm sorry" to her youngest son.
And just a random thought - but do you think Jenny and her kids continued to live in the old Winchester house? I mean, Missouri (miss her! want to see her again!!) told her once that the place was clean of spirits and it wasn't. I'm not sure I'd believe them after the second time! I think I'd be looking for different housing ASAP.
Oh, thanks for voting in my "Favorite episode of Season Four" poll yesterday, everyone. In the Beginning is only beating Lazarus Rising by one vote! It's a close one! :-)
Date: 2008-10-14 06:47 pm (UTC)Thinking of Home I might have to pop in my dvd. I absolutely love the scene when Dean finds Sam upstairs with the lamp cord around his neck. And that little hug afterwards is just awwwww.
Date: 2008-10-15 01:57 am (UTC)And I so agree about Missouri!! Please bring her back!
A couple of things I've been wondering:
1. Now that we know about Mary's deal, do you think that we'll hear anything else about all of Mary's friends being killed by the YED that we and Sam learned about in Season 3?
2. In Lazarus Rising, after Dean locates where Sam is, he and Bobby head to Peoria and end up at the Astoria Hotel. Do you think Sam was registered under the name of Jim Rockford?
Date: 2008-10-15 08:33 am (UTC)This may sound unbelievably morbid, if so, sorry, but you might want to schedule a visit with them in a couple of months and ask them to take you to his resting place, so you can say goodbye. (A few months because if he is buried it can take that long to get a stone put in place)
It might help for them to have someone to share the memories with as Christmas approaches, or if you think that's too intrusive you could try January or February.
OMG, I should watch HOME again!
At least now, I don't feel so much that Dean was kind of shorted by just getting that brief acknowledgement from her.
I am going to be completely real life practical about Jenny and her kids and say that she would stay there, because she just moved from another city and bought a house and that is a huge expense, and she would most likely not have the money to move again. Besides which, if she put that house on the market, by the time someone bought it, she and her kids would know it was safe anyway.
And furthermore, if it was me, I would SO have Missouri on speed dial, and she would be SO SICK of me calling her everytime I heard a teeny tiny sound! *LOL*
Date: 2008-10-15 07:51 pm (UTC)That's so true, and it really hit home with me now.
My best to you in this difficult time
Thanks, honey, I really appreciate that. :-)
Date: 2008-10-15 07:57 pm (UTC)I wouldn't want to, either!
I always thought that she would have stayed.
She probably did. And I've watched that episode a million times and don't know why I thought about her leaving only now. :-)
Yes! Big brother to the rescue!
Date: 2008-10-15 08:00 pm (UTC)That's exactly what I thought about her husband as well. She didn't act like they were divorced, but that he had passed away.
So yeah, she probably stayed...until the next time the lights flickered. :-)
Date: 2008-10-15 08:03 pm (UTC)It truly is. First Missy's father, then my friend partners4life's cousin and now my friend stormheller's aunt. And the lady that worked at your building, too.
This week needs to be over with. Now.
*offers sincere but lame virtual hugs*
Not lame at all! The hugs were just what I needed. :-)
Date: 2008-10-16 01:17 am (UTC)I know what you mean! That was an amazing run of four episodes right in a row and how lucky did we get that they all ended up on the same DVD? :-)
I flip from rewatching favorite parts of Season 4 eps on VHS
And with me, my DVR has been getting a heck of a workout these last few weeks. *g*
I usually end up watching Faith in its entirety - if forced to choose just one, it's probably still my favorite all-around episode)
Faith is my absolute favorite of season one, with Scarecrow a close second.
And I so agree about Missouri!! Please bring her back!
I know that a lot of people hated her, thought she was cruel to Dean, but I never thought that she was being malicious to him in any way. I was amused by her comments to him! As was Sam!
do you think that we'll hear anything else about all of Mary's friends being killed by the YED that we and Sam learned about in Season 3
I never saw that particular part, but was that when Sam was calling around after Ruby told him something about Mary? But yes, I absolutely believe we'll find more out about that this season.
Do you think Sam was registered under the name of Jim Rockford?
LOL! You're brilliant! :-)
Date: 2008-10-16 01:27 am (UTC)I generally don't put much stock in these sorts of things, but in this case I really do believe that something or someone had a helping hand in getting me up to Wisconsin that weekend, and it does comfort me. :-)
Date: 2008-10-16 01:32 am (UTC)I was shocked at first, but I can only respect their decision, you know?
and ask them to take you to his resting place, so you can say goodbye.
You know, my friend at work said the exact same thing to me, and I think I'd like that very much. And I think Missy and her mom would be more than happy to take me, that I'd want to go, you know?
OMG, I should watch HOME again!
It makes SUCH an impact now, let me tell you.
At least now, I don't feel so much that Dean was kind of shorted by just getting that brief acknowledgement from her.
Yes! I do, too! It all makes sense now.
Besides which, if she put that house on the market, by the time someone bought it, she and her kids would know it was safe anyway.
She probably did stay. And I've watched that episode a million times and don't know why I thought about her leaving only now. :-)
