I kind of got the impression that her husband had died and left them in a sticky financial situation and I imagine the Winchester house was going cheap :P
That's exactly what I thought about her husband as well. She didn't act like they were divorced, but that he had passed away.
So yeah, she probably stayed...until the next time the lights flickered. :-)
