Hey guys!

So the first day back at the office yesterday after my European vacation went exactly as I expected it would - my backup did my stuff for the first week and then ignored everything for the last two, dumping a huge pile on my desk first thing in the morning. Nice. He usually does this to me, so I wasn't surprised. Didn't mean I wasn't pissed off, though.

But enough of the bad stuff. How 'bout some more photos? :-)  Today I wanted to post some pics of the new friends I made while I was in Ireland. [livejournal.com profile] lausbub0402's wedding was like a meeting of the United Nations. We had people there from all over the globe! Which turned out to be really cool, actually.

First up is Tony, the resident Irishman. He's Claudia's husband's good friend and was the best man in the wedding. Good lord this man was a hoot! I was warned ahead of time by Claudia that he loves to pick on Americans and has a very dry sense of humor. Boy was she right! But I think I surprised Tony by giving as good as I got, and we got along like a house on fire. :-)  I loved this guy! And I think he kinda liked me, too:

Here he is reciting poetry to me:

Next up are Guisy (on the left) and Nicole. Nicole is a co-worker of Claudia's and Guisy is Nicole's best friend. They're both from Switzerland. Holy cow were these two freaking funny! We spent quite a bit of time together and were also seated at the same table during the wedding reception dinner, where hilarity ensued over the plate of chocolate. I loved talking with them and when we all got out on the dance floor - look out! LOL! I'll always think of them anytime I see a cow. Or a horse. (Don't ask.)

And finally there's Niclas. He's a co-worker as well, but from Sweden. He was there with his lovely wife Pia and their two children, Markus and Paulina. They were all so nice and Niclas and I took an instant liking to one another. This guy was a riot! We teased each other about all sorts of stuff, but especially cameras. See, I'm a Canon girl and Niclas had a Nikon. So we had a friendly rivalry going on. :-)

And this is Niclas deciding he wanted to make my husband jealous, and pretty much succeeding! LOL! Who knew that Tony had picked up my camera and managed to snap this? Hee!

And last but not least, I couldn't leave Ireland without one last pint of Guinness:

I'm so glad I had the chance to meet new people and make new friends. It wasn't all about the beautiful scenery on this trip, but the beautiful people, too. :-)

Well, here I am, back home in Chicago, safe and sound. My flight back from Dublin was nice and smooth and I sat next to a really nice young Irish gal who was on her way to Los Angeles to start art school. Needless to say, we had a lot to talk about. :-)

Spent the last 2 days just decompressing at home, relaxing and catching up on a lot of missed sleep.

I miss [livejournal.com profile] lausbub0402 and her husband and son and [livejournal.com profile] donelbo and Germany and Ireland SO much already. God, what an amazing three weeks I had.

Thank you all again for all of your wonderful comments to my posts while I was in Europe. So glad you enjoyed all of my photos! I'm so sorry I haven't been able to answer everyone back. Having over 200 comments is a bit overwhelming! LOL!

I have hundreds and hundreds of photos to go through still, and a few videos, so I may be posting a bit more about my trip over the next few days.

But right now I need to go tackle my work email. The depression is already setting in, thinking about having to go back to the office tomorrow. Ugh. I'd rather be in the Alps!

Well folks, this is my last post from Ireland. Hard to believe that my Great International Adventure has come to a close. I fly home in just a few hours.

The last few days have been fantastic. I got to explore a very old cemetery and finally get some photos of the beautiful celtic cross headstones. Only have time this morning to post one pic, but I'll do more when I get home.

So [livejournal.com profile] lausbub0402's wedding yesterday was simply amazing. So beautiful. The groom and ring bearer surprised everyone by wearing kilts! It was so neat. And Claudia looked stunning in her Irish wedding dress. And I managed not to embarrass myself during my reading. :-)

The weather was amazing. Bright sunshine and so hot no one could believe it. Ireland just doesn't get this kind of sunshine! I even got a bit of a sunburn!

The reception was a riot. First we had bagpipers, then Irish step dancers, then an Irish band. I even got pulled onto the dance floor during the audience participation part of the step dancing. :-)  Didn't get to bed until around 3 am, then up at 9 for breakfast before we left for our sightseeing tour at Newgrange.

Only time for one other photo today since I have to run, but it's the one you've all been waiting for - me in a dress. :-)  Here I am with my glass of champagne next to the wedding car.

Thank you all for your comments to all of my entries while I've been here in Europe. I'm sorry I've been too busy to respond back, but I'm so thrilled you enjoyed hearing what I was up to and seeing my photos.

Talk to you all again after I get over my jetlag. :-)

Hello from County Trim!

We left Dublin yesterday morning and headed out here. Beautiful part of the country, all green meadows and horses everywhere.

After checking in to our very quaint B&B we stopped in at the hotel where the wedding reception is going to be held, just to make sure everything is set. And it is! We had a delicious lunch there, too. The bartender was a hoot! His name was Hugh. He gave [livejournal.com profile] lausbub0402 and her husband and son a good-natured hard time because they didn't want ice in their drinks and was quite happy that the American did. :-)

They have beautiful gardens at the hotel, and I'm planning on walking down there after breakfast today to take some photos while Claudia heads to the airport to pick up many, many guests for the wedding. I'm really looking forward to this tomorrow!

We drove out to Trim Castle later that afternoon and wow is it impressive. But we got there right after it closed and right before it started to pour so I only got a few pics from the hill overlooking it. Can't wait to get inside on Tuesday if it doesn't rain.

Weather was so strange yesterday. First it was warm and sunny. Then rain and chilly. Then sun, then rain, over and over all day. But it made for a neat rainbow that I managed to capture. Didn't find the pot of gold, though!

Well, time for a traditional Irish breakfast them I'm off to explore the town and get some more photos!

Another lovely morning here in Dublin.

Had a fantastic day yesterday. [livejournal.com profile] lausbub0402 had wedding stuff to do, so I struck out on my own and did the hop-on-hop-off bus tour around the entire city. Left at 10 am and got back around 5 pm. With a huge blister on my heel. [sigh] But it was worth it!

Went to St. Patrick's cathedral first. Wow! So beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice.

Then went to the Guinness factory and took the tour. What a neat building. It's all glass and round. Went all the way up to the 7th floor to their famous Gravity Bar for my free pint and a 360 degree view of Dublin. Since it was sunny I could see quite far.

After that I went to Kilmainham prison, which has been around since the 1700's. The tour was fascinating. I didn't know much about Ireland's history and the struggles they went through for independence from England and all of the people who were executed for starting the rebellions.

Stayed on the bus for awhile after that, just looking at the city before getting off in the northern part, across the Liffey River for some shopping and some delicious fish and chips for lunch. Yum!

Got back to the hotel and collapsed for a bit before meeting up with my friends and several other people who are here for the wedding, for dinner at another pub. Had some wonderful cod and crab cakes while listening to another Irish band.

I called it a night around 11 pm and today we're checking out of the hotel and we're off to Trim, where we'll be until I leave on August 1st. Hopefully I can post a picture of me in my dress from the wedding. :-)

Talk to you all soon!

Hey guys!

Greetings from Dublin, Ireland!

Had a fantastic first day here yesterday, as you can see by the photos. It was the first warm, sunny day they'd had in a week! We got in around noon and stayed out till about 10 pm. We walked and walked, just taking in the sights and sounds and people. Dublin is a busy, crowded city, but very vibrant.

I went to my first Irish pub and had my first Guinness! Woot! I'm not a beer drinker but I have to admit it wasn't bad. It turns out the Irish love the Americans (especially our accents). I was getting chatted up everywhere we went. At that pub a young Irish guy (Daniel) sitting across from us in the rooftop beer garden immediately turned when he heard me speak and proceeded to engage me in conversation for 45 minutes! It was actually really nice. :-)

We went shopping on Grafton Street, their biggest shopping district, and I picked myself up a few things. Then we went to St. Stephen's Green, a huge park kind of like a smaller version of Central Park in NY. Really pretty. We sat and ate lunch there.

Thanks to a tip from Daniel we had a great dinner at Fitzsimmon's pub, where he told me I had to get the Irish stew, since I like lamb. OMG, it was so good! They had a live band that night so I got to hear some traditional Irish music. Loved it!

Our last stop of the night was at the famous Temple Bar, for another pint of Guinness. Holy crap that place was crowded! They had live music, too.

Oh, the pics of Christ Church Cathedral is the view I have outside my hotel room window. Pretty stunning, eh? It's been nice listening to the bells.
My friends have wedding stuff to take care of today so I'm doing a hop-on-hop-off bus tour that Claudia recommended. It's another sunny day so I'm going to take advantage of it. It's supposed to be chilly and rainy here for the remainder of our stay. Blah.

Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow morning to post some pics from my bus tour before we check out of the hotel and head to Trim, where we'll be for the rest of the trip.

More of Dublin back here! )
