Supernatural - Beginning's End #5

Picked up the next issue of Beginning's End tonight - and it was pretty boring.

The hunter that John, Sam and Dean had been working with in New York decides to kill John (and Dean if he gets in the way) and kidnap Sam because this other hunter's son had been kidnapped and the only way to get him back was to trade him for Sam.

John goes on a rampage to find Sam, killing a bunch of actual humans in the process. This shakes up Dean and even though John gives him an order, he's unable to shoot a man in cold blood. So John does it before the man can pull his gun and kill Dean, sort of berating Dean afterwards.

We find out that it's the elusive John Dee (couldn't they have given the character another name besides John, since we've already got one?) that the Winchesters have been looking for, that has Sam. Dee wants to make some kind of deal with someone for Sam, and that requires opening a gate to Hell, and that's how the issue ends.

There's only one more issue left in this series, which culminates in the fight that prompts Sam to walk out on John (and Dean) and head to Stanford. That leaves a lot of ground to cover. I'm hoping it's done well and makes up for how blah the previous five issues have been, but I'm not holding my breath.

Supernatural - Beginning's End #4

I picked up the new issue of the Supernatural comic, Beginning's End, yesterday, and it's a long way down from issue #3. :-(

John is a complete and utter ass in this issue toward Sam, making it even more apparent why he wants to get away from his father. He makes Sam go pickpocket someone so that Sam can eat, then when he does and gets himself a hot dog, John eats it after nearly shooting Sam in the shoulder over it.

Dean, meanwhile, is on his own hunt, and here's where it's apparent that Dabb and Loflin have NO idea about SPN canon. In "Dead Man's Blood", neither Sam or Dean have ever faced off against a vampire, yet here's Dean hunting one and chopping off its head with a machete. [shakes head]

He hooks up with another female hunter from an earlier issue and they dispatch the vampire together, go to a rave for wannabe vampires, have several drinks and then go back to her place where they fall into bed together...only to have Dean pass out before anything can happen. That part was actually amusing. *g*

Back with Sam and John, they get a lead where they might find John Dee and head off to the pier...where the issue ends with a "To Be Continued"

All in all another lacking issue. God, WHY can't someone write a GOOD Supernatural comic book series?? Argh!

Supernatural - Beginning's End #5 & 6

For those of you following the new Supernatural comic series, here's info on the last two issues:

The Winchesters get a major break in their hunt for John Dee, but how much closer are they really to the Yellow Eyed Demon? And can Sam and John put aside the growing rift between them to work as a team for one final mission? This senses-shattering penultimate issue is a shocker!

SUPERNATURAL: BEGINNING'S END #6 (OF 6)

Written by ANDREW DABB & DANIEL LOFLIN • Art by DIEGO OLMOS • Photo cover

The Winchester's Big Apple adventure comes to a close as they finally locate John Dee, and it leads to a shocking showdown between John and Sam that's only been hinted at on the hit TV series! Find out what tears the family apart and sends Sam cross-country to Stanford, turning his back on his family forever.

On Sale June 16, 2010

I'm really, really curious as to how Dabb & Loflin handle the fight that makes Sam leave. It won't be canon, per se, but I'm interested in their take on it.

Supernatural - Beginning's End #3

Just finished reading issue #3 of Supernatural: Beginning's End and wow, what a head trip. Literally!

So far this was the most interesting of the three issues, as I went from being highly disturbed to highly amused.

Why you ask? Because Dean spends the entire issue carrying around Sam's severed head, having a conversation with him while the two of them solve the case.

I kid you not! It was both highly disturbing to think about this but also highly amusing as Sam's severed head bites the arm of one of the other characters.  :-)

95% of this issue is just Sam and Dean, which was nice. Before Sam gets his head chopped off they have some good conversations about hunting, about Sam and John fighting, things like that.

John makes an appearance right at the end, and his conversation with Sam is bittersweet, since we all know what really happens down the line.

So yeah, this was kinda a crazy, whacked-out issue, but I liked it!

Supernatural - Beginning's End #2

I picked up the second issue of the Supernatural comic, Beginning's End, yesterday and was pretty disappointed. I was hoping the second issue would've been better than the first, but instead I was bored by it.

It's pretty much a stand-alone Sam issue, his adventures in the sewers of New York. It picks up right where the first issue ended, and at least Dean was concerned about Sam running off, but John seemed like he could care less.

Reading this comic I'm again reminded why I don't care for 90% of the SPN episodes that Dabb and Loflin have written.

Supernatural - Beginning's End #1

I picked up the new Supernatural comic yesterday and discovered that there are two covers. The one on the left is the photo variant cover and the one on the right is the normal cover. I know that at least the first three issues will be like this, with two covers.

As for the story - so far it's nothing groundbreaking. We all know that Sam hated the hunting life and resented John for pulling he and Dean into it. And that's pretty much what the first issue is. There was only one thing that I found interesting - whether or not Dean knew about Sam's acceptance into Stanford. I know that the comics aren't true canon, but I often wondered if Sam confided in Dean or if he sprung it on he and John at the same time. This issue gives us an answer.

New Supernatural comic series starts next week!

Hey all you comic book geeks! (like myself *g*)

Don't forget that the new Supernatural comic book series, Beginning's End, starts next week, January 20th!

Supernatural Beginnings End #1 (of 6) (Wildstorm)

On the Stands January 20th

Can’t get enough of the supernatural hunting exploits of Sam and Dean Winchester? Well Season 5 resumes new episodes on January 21st and just one day before that the new six issue mini-series Supernatural Beginnings End hits the comic stands. This one follows a younger Sam and Dean as they hunt for monsters in New York City (let’s clarify that they are hunting supernatural monsters, not the usual kind you find in the Big Apple). This book, written by the television series scribes Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin, provides the precursor to the events leading up to Sam’s decision to leave the family business behind and head to Stanford. So as the TV series continues on its path to the Apocalypse, go back to the beginning and find out a little bit more about what makes the two brothers tick!

More Supernatural comics from WildStorm!

Well, cool, WildStorm is going to continue on with another set of six Supernatural comics! While I didn't care for Origins at all, I did enjoy Rising Son. I wonder how Beginning's End will be. I'm kind of concerned, because of the four SPN episodes that Andrew and Daniel have written (Yellow Fever, After School Special, Jump the Shark and I Believe the Children Are Our Future), I've really disliked all of them except Children.

SUPERNATURAL: BEGINNING'S END #1 (OF 6)

Written by Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin; Art and Cover by Diego Olmos; Photo Variant Cover

Picking up several years after the hit RISING SON miniseries, the Winchester clan find themselves in the strangest situation imaginable – monster hunting in the Big Apple! The definitive events that led to Sam leaving his family to attend Stanford, this gripping and horrifying story, courtesy of television series writers Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin, will explore the raw nerves of what makes the Winchesters unique and volatile.

Fans of the cult hit TV series won't want to miss this pivotal 6-issue tale!
