Okay, I've got to admit, the bags this year are really freaking cool! Wish I was going to be at ComicCon to get one!

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki star on the "Supernatural" bag that will be given out at Comic-Con next week. / Warner Bros. TV

The Winchester boys are back at Comic-Con, on a panel as well as really, really large bags.

Warner Bros. TV annually rolls out a slew of big bags that double as backpacks for attendees of the event - storage for all the comic books and other stuff people buy at the San Diego Convention Center July 23-27 - and Supernatural actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki star on one of 13 fan-friendly bag designs. (It is a show about fighting demons, after all, so there's also some salt, fire and other things needed for monster hunting.)

More than 130,000 bags are slated to be handed out featuring art and photos from the TV shows Arrow, Constantine, The Flash, The Following, Gotham, iZOMBIE, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Mike Tyson Mysteries and Teen Titans Go! Batman's turning 75 so he gets a pair of designs, one styled after the old 1960s TV series.

Also of note: Yours truly will be moderating the Supernatural Comic-Con panel on July 27, and Jensen and Padalecki will be on hand to talk about the long-running show's 10th season - and upcoming 200th episode - alongside Misha Collins, new series regular Mark Sheppard and executive producer Jeremy Carver. The crowd at the 6,500-seat Hall H room will also get to see series highlights and bonus features from the upcoming Season 9 Blu-ray and DVD (out Sept. 9).

I thought this was so cool - I got my new TV Guide in the mail today and to my surprise and delight, there on the Cheers and Jeers page was this!  Kudos to you, Jensen, for getting recognized for your most awesome CW selfie!

Decided to tune back into SPN last night for one episode because it was filmed here in Chicago. I loved seeing my city actually playing Chicago and places I'm familiar with. But other than that, I needn't have bothered. "Bloodlines" was an awful rip-off of Kindred: The Embraced, populated with nothing but typical young, pretty CW actors with one bland expression. I'm so not interested in a Romeo and Juliet soap opera version of gritty and dark Supernatural. Boooooring. But that's typical CW fare so I shouldn't be surprised. I was really hoping I was going to enjoy the spin off, but with the exception of David I couldn't connect with any of the characters. Speaking of David and the "shifters" did I miss something along the way, with them not having to shed their skins and just change instantaneously? Are we just rewriting SPN canon again when it suits the writers?

What did all of you think of Bloodlines? Interested enough to tune in if it gets picked up to series or are you changing the channel? It'll be interesting to see what the ratings are later today.

So I mentioned the other day that TNT has started showing SPN over from the beginning. I've been watching a couple of eps each night and enjoying the hell out of what the show used to be and how much I loved it.

I'm up to Bugs and right before the ep was over it suddenly hit me - a long ago buried plot bunny. Many, many years ago my good friend Deborah asked me to write a Sam and Dean story told from an outsider's POV. I immediately knew what I wanted to do and that I wanted it set at the beginning of season two. But it was also going to require me to watch every ep of season one over again because of all these notes I wanted to take. I had every intention of doing just that…and never got around to it and the plot bunny started gathering dust.

But it suddenly shook off the cobwebs last night, surprising me. I realized that I was only a few episodes in and everything was still fresh in my brain, so I quick took out my notebook and scribbled down things from the eight eps I'd watched.

Now I don't know if this is going to go anywhere, since I haven't written any SPN fic in more years than I can remember, but it's the closest I've gotten to being inspired to write again. Like I said, interesting side effect I wasn't expecting when I started watching the episodes, so we'll see what happens!

supernatural

After spending Monday shooting in Vancouver, the Winchester brothers, aka Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, will spend the next three days filming Supernatural: Bloodlines in Chicago.

Bloodlines, formerly Supernatural: Tribes, is a potential new series that will be introduced in the 20th episode of Supernatural this season.

Most of the pilot episode was shot in Vancouver but the show will shoot some exterior shots in Chicago, where it will be set, on Mar. 25 – 27.

According to a recent casting call, Jared and Jensen will both be in town for the shoot.

We’ve also received Chicago Filming Permits under the name Hunters, LLC which we believe is Bloodlines. The permit shows filming will take place at 151 E Wacker Dr in Chicago on Wednesday, Mar. 26.

~~~~~~
LOVE the name they took the permits out in! They were also filming here at the Loyola University campus yesterday. Wish I could get away from work to go find them, but with the way things are at the office it wouldn't be a good idea to take a day off. :-(
I liked Jared's tweet yesterday saying he was glad to be here in Chicago, that it's been six years since they've filmed anything in the U.S.
On Monday TNT started showing Supernatural from the beginning. I watched the Pilot, Wendigo, Dead in the Water, Phantom Traveler and Bloody Mary.
There was baby!Sam with his emo bangs and his hoodie. There was Dean with his cocky swagger, his amulet and his leather jacket.
There was the "Bitch." "Jerk." and the "Shotgun shuts his cake hole".
There was the caring and concern for one another.
There was why I fell in love with these characters, these boys, from Day One. And that is why I can no longer watch the show. Because all of that? It's been gone for a long, long time. This season has effectively destroyed any love I had left. Yes, characters need to change and grow over the years. But when you have one of them state that they're no longer brothers, the fundamental CORE of the show, why would I want to keep watching?
How far this show has fallen, just like the angels. :-(
Well just like I thought, I did not get picked as an extra for the Supernatural: Bloodlines filming going on this week in Chicago.
Not surprising as they had over 1200 people apply for 100 spots. Oh, and one day they only need African American folks, but they never said that originally.
No word yet on exactly where they're filming, but if I can find out and get away from work, I'm there!
agt_spooky: (Default)
Just put my application in to be an extra on the "pilot" episode of Supernatural: Bloodlines, which will be filming here in Chicago on March 24-27th.
It's a one in a million shot I'll get picked so I'm not getting my hopes up. But now I know what casting company they're using so I'm following their twitter for filming locations so maybe I can at least watch from the sidewalk.
Wish me luck!
agt_spooky: (SN-Highway to Hell)
Figures, now that I stop watching SPN they're going to film here. Still, I've got nothing against Jensen & Jared, so I'd love to be an extra and maybe see them if they're here.
From the Chicago Tribune:
The CW announced last week that long running drama “Supernatural” is getting a spinoff. And unlike the original, which follows brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they hunt ghosts and monsters all over the country, the spinoff, “Supernatural: Tribes” will take place in Chicago.
According to sources, the majority of the pilot episode will film in Vancouver, which is where the original "Supernatural" is filmed, but shooting will also take place for three or four days in Chicago in late-March.
From TVLine.com:
Supernatural Spin-Off Exclusive: Meet the Werewolves, Shifters and Hunters of Tribes
Supernatural Spin-Off Cast
The Windy City is about to declare all-out war.
New intel has surfaced about The CW’s Chicago-based planted Supernatural spin-off, Supernatural: Tribes, and it points to an epic battle involving five rival monster families and a vengeance-seeking hunter.
Read on for exclusive details on the key players populating the offshoot (all of whom will be introduced in this season’s 20th episode of Supernatural).
ENNIS ROTH | The de-facto star of the potential series, Ennis is “likeable, strong-willed, resolute, with a strong sense of justice.” He’s the son of a cop who grew up in poverty. He’s en route to the police academy himself when someone he is close to is murdered — presumably by some kind of monster. He meets up with Sam and Dean and “learns the staggering truth” that Chicago is run by five families of monsters (including, but perhaps not limited to, werewolves and shape shifters). And with that, a new monster-hunter is born. Fun fact: Producers are looking to fill this role with an African-American actor in his early 20s.
DAVID HAYDEN | A shape-shifter from one of Chicago’s ruling monster families. He’s been living as a human for some time, but a tragedy propels him back into the life. David is in his early 20s.
MARGO HAYDEN | David’s “professional, strong-willed, determined, ambitious” shape-shifter sister. She’s an “ex-punk rocker gone corporate” who sets out to be the new head of the family in the wake of a tragedy. Margo is in her early 20s.
VIOLET DURANT | A werewolf and part of the wealthy, powerful Durant family. In a twist right out of West Side Story, the early-twentysomething is hot for family rival David (see above), but their love is forbidden.
JULIAN DURANT | Violet’s “savagely handsome, strong, arrogant” twentysomething brother and Ennis’ arch nemesis.
FREDDIE COSTA | A world-weary copy in his 30s, Freddie has a soft spot in his heart for Ennis (he knew his dad back in the day). Fun fact: Eddie’s got a secret.
~~~~~~

So....what do you guys think? First thing I thought of - anyone remember the show Kindred:The Embraced, with the different "families"? And throw in some Romeo and Juliet and apparently you get Tribes.

Nothing about the descriptions really grabbed me, but since this is going to be the 20th episode of SPN I'll reserve judgement until I see all these characters in action.

What I REALLY want to know is - will any of this actually be filmed here in Chicago or will Vancouver be the stand-in?

From TVLine.com:

"Additionally, The CW in-the-works Supernatural spin-off will be called Supernatural: Tribes. The offshoot, which will air as a regular episode of Supernatural this spring, will explore the clashing hunter and monster cultures of Chicago."

TRIBES? Seriously? That's the best they could come up with? Sounds like it should be taking place in some South American jungle or something, not Chicago, for crying out loud - my hometown no less! I just don't get an...urban vibe from it if it's going to be based solely in the city and not cross country.

I don't think of humans and monsters having "tribes". Though that does remind me of the beginning of the original Battlestar Galactica: "There are those who believe...that life here began out there, far across the Universe...with tribes of humans..." :-)

The Broadcast Film Critics Association has announced that Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki will present awards at this year’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony on Thursday, January 16, 2014 - The CW Network at 8:00 PM ET/PT

Red Carpet Pre-show coverage will also air

Today is the CW's turn at the TCA's winter panel and here's what the president of the network had to say about Supernatural:

I got a surprise package in the mail on Christmas Eve - the Impala! Okay, so it's not the actual Impala but a Matchbox car size one. It's still freaking cool! I'd completely forgotten I'd pre-ordered this back in September from TVMerch. What I love about this one is that it's the actual FOUR DOOR Impala unlike all of the other previous versions that were made with only two doors. And it's got the original KAZ 2Y5 license plate! Woot! I now wish I'd purchased two of these - one to open and one to keep in the cool packaging:

agt_spooky: (SN-Dean (Ha!))
You guys may have already seen this, but after I did this morning I couldn't NOT post this because it is OFF THE HOOK HYSTERICAL. The "ceremony" took place last weekend at the Burbank convention and was a total surprise to Jensen. For those of you who have been to an SPN con in the last year, for karaoke, Richard has dressed up like Dean as the gym teacher - wearing the actual shorts, given to him by Jensen. Apparently the gym teacher (and Matt's cheerleader outfit) is being retired, so Richard gave the shorts back to Jensen. In typical Richard Speight Jr. fashion....

agt_spooky: (SN-Dean (candy in mouth))
Caught a show on Cooking channel last night that Dean Winchester would have highly approved of:

I'm telling you, there NEEDS to be an ep of SPN where the boys investigate a haunted pie shop. And it should be in Seattle, according to this show. They've got tons of 'em! :-)
agt_spooky: (SN-Dean (reading))

When I was a kid, choose-your-own-adventure books were hugely popular. I loved them and lost track of how many I bought. So needless to say, when I found out that Supernatural was coming out with one, I was all over that sucker. :-)

The Roads Not Taken is a quick, fun read. It's comprised of four individual stories that at first appear standalone, but are actually all connected as you find out in the last story. And each story gives you three or four choices to make, with three different outcomes - Sam and Dean both die, one of them dies or they both survive.

I didn't do too well right out of the gate, as the very first choice I made quickly led to Sam and Dean's deaths. D'oh! LOL! Some hunter I am! So back to the beginning I went to make a different choice. :-) Didn't do too much better with the second story, as I accidentally killed off Sam. Oops! But I made it through the third story with them both surviving. Yay! I was even successful with the last story, with Sam and Dean defeating the MOTW that tied all 4 stories together.

The fun part is then going back and looking at all of the choices you didn't make, to see what would have happened. Let's see, Dean would have been killed by a demon, Sam would have been killed by some nightmarish creature, they both would have been killed by a saber-tooth tiger…

So if you're looking for a bit of nostalgia from your childhood this is the book for you. If you're looking for a serious novel, you'll want to skip this one. I give it a solid 3 out of 4 stars.

I had to share this with you guys. My buddy [livejournal.com profile] charityflint sent this to me. She saw it on her friend's Facebook page. As soon as I saw it my mind went O_o with the possibilities and the freaking HOTNESS of a pairing like this. OMG, why haven't I ever seen any Dean/Jack fic?? I need this in my life! LOL!

Speaking of multi-fandoms, if you haven't stopped by my LJ lately I've got a new header and sidebar up, expressing my favorite pairings throughout the years. :-)
