So like I mentioned in my previous post, I just created a Facebook page for my writing alter ego:

Jamie Lynn Miller's Facebook page

Let me just say that I HATE Facebook. I don't understand how it works and I don't want to be there. But unfortunately it's a necessary evil when it comes to ebook promotion, making contacts, etc.

Here's my question: I've had a few people Like my page, which is great. But I don't understand how, since I don't see a Like button on my own page. And vise versa, when I go to their page to Like it in return, I don't see a Like button. But not for everyone. For some folks the Like button is there. Why is that? Why do some people have Like buttons and others don't? I thought that was standard on every Facebook page. I feel like I'm being so rude and ignoring people because I can't Like them back when I really want to thank them.

Can anyone help me out, explain this Like thing to me? And can you guys see a Like button on my page?

Thanks!

Facebook IS evil...hate it too...but am there. ;)

The Like button won't show up on an individual's page...you have to "friend request" a person. The like button is typically for a "celebrity" fan page, "cause" or "event".

You won't see it on your own page (that you're the administrator of or your personal page)...I imagine they assume since you created it, you like it. :)

OMG, it IS evil. It’s seriously eating my brain and taking up SO much of my time. If this doesn’t translate into any book sales for me I’m going to scream.

Thank you! After consulting a “specialist” aka my best friend’s husband who is a FB fanatic, I understand everything now. Personal pages like mine can only do friend requests. Business and Group pages have the Like button.

I checked your page out and really you should make it a fan page and not a personal page partially because there are limitations on personal pages on the number of "friends" you can have. I've never created a fan page so I'm not 100% sure how you do it and if you have to have a personal page to create a fan page :-/

I actually tried making a fan page first and it didn’t work out at all. It wouldn’t let me do anything as my Jamie Lynn persona on anyone else’s pages. I couldn’t Like, I couldn’t Friend, I couldn’t comment. I could only post on my own page. After tearing my hair out for days I just made an entirely new account which is now working out great.

Agree with Bitchtude and you need to make it a fan page. here are two links to help you do that: http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Facebook-Fan-Page

and this is the facebook link:

It's not set up as a page - it's set up as a personal account. That's why you're not seeing a like button.

I hope you figure it out. I can't see a like button. I think you would need to change the type of page to allow people to like it rather than needing to send friend requests.
