Hey all! So did everyone have a good holiday?

John and I had a lovely Christmas Eve. We went out to dinner then per tradition we drove around several neighborhoods that we know have many decorated houses to see all the pretty lights. We then attempted to do our other tradition - going to Cosley Zoo for their festival of lights. But to our surprise they were closed! The sign said they were open until 9 pm but we got there at 6:15 and the gates were locked. We have no idea why they closed early, so we were really disappointed. So we headed home instead for hot chocolate and cookies in front of the roaring fire, watching (much to my husband's delight - NOT) a Very Supernatural Christmas. But then I made it up to him and we watched Hercule Poirot's Christmas episode. :-)

It's only John and I, so holidays are pretty low-key, but Christmas was even more low-key than usual since another tradition of ours was thwarted - going to the movies. For the first time in many, many years, there wasn't a single movie out that we wanted to see. Bummer! But I got to stay in my jammies all day as a result! :-)

Check out the cool Darth Vader USB hub that John got for me. It makes Vader's breathing noise whenever you plug something in. Ha! Love it!

John made duck for dinner and it was amazingly delicious. Best one he's made in years! Bean even got a little plate of duck for a Christmas treat. :-)  Speaking of the little mischief maker, you can just guess what happened a split second after I took this photo:

I'm still home from work for the holidays so I took the opportunity today to make my famous Milky Way cake for my birthday on Saturday. I'm meeting up with friends from work tomorrow for a bday dinner and I'm bringing them all a piece. Love the way the house smells when that candy starts melting. Yum!

I've spent most of the day watching a marathon of Doctor Who episodes on BBC America. I've become quite enamored with David Tennant since Broadchurch and was delighted to see that they were running several of his episodes today. Two with Captain Jack Harkness even, so that's a bonus!

And now I'm off to make some more hot chocolate and have a few more cookies and enjoy my last two days of holiday vacation before heading back to work on Monday. Oh, found out this morning that we're getting a surprise $800 bonus with our paychecks tomorrow! What a wonderful birthday gift that's going to be!

So how did YOU spend your Christmas?

Your Christmas sounded quite nice. I reinstated my Christmas Eve tradition of having all my friend over for food and gift exchange. Many of them were the ones who took such great care of me while I was on chemo and having the bone marrow transplant. And we all had a great time. Though it was a long evening as the last of them left about 1:30 a.m. I managed to hit the bed around 2:00 but was almost too tired to sleep. On Christmas spent a wonderful day with a couple and their parents and we had an amazing Prime Rib dinner and our gift exchange. Gave their 15 year old son a old unopened Hallmark ornament of the Galileo 7 as I have got him even more into Star Trek than he was before. He is one smart young man and is always testing me on my knowledge of ancient Roman history. He wanted to borrow my book, Prime Directive, and I am sure he will be interested in reading more.
But at least have finished most of my clean up, just need to mop tomorrow then I will take it easy. Not planning much over New Year's. How about You?

Your Christmas Eve sounded lovely and that fun was had by all. Nothing like getting together with friends to make the holiday even more special.

You're a Star Trek pimp! LOL! I love it! I do my best to get young folks interested in Star Wars. Both are icons that deserve the attention of every generation. :-)

No plans for New Years as of yet. Temperatures are supposed to be well into the negatives so I think we'll be staying toasty warm at home by the fire with a bottle of champagne.

Oh, she was lovely until she stood up on her back legs and grabbed hold of the cards and pulled them down! LOL!

Hey, nothing better than a mini SPN marathon to celebrate the holiday, I say. :-)

Good gosh, me, too! I swear it's been non-stop sweets for the last week! And now I've got my birthday cake. Ha!
