We spent our last full day in Portland mainly down by the riverfront.

First stop was the Pittock Mansion, which was very educational, the home of George Pittock, who started the Oregonian newspaper. It was  just gorgeous inside.

Next we had a sailboat tour on the Willamette River that turned out to be a LOT of fun. Our captain was fantastic. Quite funny and full of  information. Plus he's sort of a Leverage fan! We got to see a couple of teams training for the dragon boat races, so that was pretty cool.  It was such a gorgeous day that the three of us could've stayed on the  boat for hours. :-)

We hung around the riverfront for awhile, having lunch, window shopping and then having some yummy ice cream while people watching. I never knew that Portland was such a dog-friendly town! I swear to God, all we saw for days were pocket dogs everywhere! LOL!

Our last stop of the day was out in Clackamas, where the Leverage studios are located. Since the convention had been cancelled we thought we'd just take a drive out there to say we'd at least been to where they film. I took a photo of Dean Devlin's parking spot. :-)

Then unfortunately it was back out to the hotel to start getting packed up to go home the next day. :-(

All in all the trip was AMAZING. I'm so glad we all decided to go out to Portland anyway and I couldn't have asked for better traveling companions. We made each other laugh so hard so often my stomach hurt.  *g*  Not to mention just talking and talking and talking all day and well into the night. There's just nothing better than when fangirls get together. :-)

Hugs to you both, [livejournal.com profile] celtprincess13 and [livejournal.com profile] hollylyn1217. Let's do this again soon, okay?

Who's ready for a sailboat cruise??

Check out our fine vessel:

The Portland waterfront:

Dragon boat race practice:

I'm used to the bridges over the Chicago River opening in the middle with each side folding up, but in Portland the entire bridge lifts straight up!

This is the actual submarine used in the filming of The Hunt for Red October. It's currently docked and open for viewing at the Portland Science Museum:

The Leverage Studios!!!  By complete and total accident, as I swung the car into parking lot I ended up right in Dean Devlin's spot! LOL!

Yeah, I'm a dork. Sue me. [snort]

Check this out, as I pulled my phone out to take a photo of Dean's parking space to send to my friend [livejournal.com profile] charityflint, look what popped up.  It amused me to no end to see they've got their own WiFi hotspot!

You know, if it wasn’t for the con being canceled we never would’ve been able to see and do all that we did, because we had almost a full week this way compared to only 2-3 days of sightseeing if we were going to be attending the con, too. So even though I would’ve loved to have met the Leverage cast, I still ended up having an amazing time. :-)

I’m so happy you liked all of my pics and reports! It feels very strange to not be making a daily post now. :-( Guess I’ll just have to go back for another vacation!

I have enjoyed all your Portland photos so much. Such a lovely place and you seemed to have captured it so well. I totally would have taken a pic of the parking spot and the wifi signal, too.

Are you a travel guide writer? I've been to Portland and done about half the things you guys did, but you still made it sound new and exciting. You have a gift.

Yep, now I'm a 100% sure that we'll check out Portland if we have enough time left on our trip.
So many nice pictures and your travel report really ask for more and a personal experience.
Thanks so much for sharing all this with us *hugs*

You guys are going to LOVE it there. I can see all of you with your feet in the Pacific ocean right now! Speaking of the ocean, here’s the only pic I was able to get of the Lighthouse near Ecola State Park. It was pretty far away and out in the middle of the water. And it looked really small, too! I’m just going to have to go back one day and take a real tour of the coast and see ALL of the lighthouses.

Thanks for coming along on my photographic journey! I think you’d get a kick out of Portland simply because you’re a dog lover and that town was made for dogs. Every restaurant had water outside for them. It was really neat!

Thanks, sweetie! I’m thrilled that it turned out so awesome as well. I got to see a part of the U.S. that I never had before and had two great friends along with me. Loved it!

It is great

To see you so happy, for being with friends that you get along well, that you spend great times with them and make you forget those devils days at work. I really envy you that you have friend to go anywhere and of course have the job and money to do it.

Aww, thank you! I count myself lucky that I have so many friends who like to travel as much as I do and that because none of us have families (children) it’s easy for us to be able to just take off and go when we get an opportunity. And it’s always great to be away from our jobs for a week!

Barb, sorry to be so late in commenting on your vacation pictures. RL is still hell.

Your pictures have been beautiful - I have a soft spot for waterfalls so I especially love your pictures of the falls around Portland. It looks like the three of you had a wonderful time.

And after seeing your first picture today, I wanted to give you special props for supporting both The Sentinel with your Cascade PD t-shirt and Supernatural with your SPN/Dean Winchester tote while searching for Leverage locations! Way to be a well-rounded fangirl - and one with good taste!

Aww, thanks, Deborah! Glad you enjoyed my photos. If you ever get a chance to go to Multnomah Falls, definitely do so. I was in awe. And my travel book says that the Portland area has every different kind of waterfall there is (horsetail, punchbowl, etc.) so you’d love it!

ROTFL!! Oh, that’s priceless! Thank you! What can I say, I’m all about the fandom cross-overs. ;-)  And kudos to you for even realizing that was my Cascade PD shirt, since not much of it was showing in either photo. *g*
