The terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

I'm a basket case today.

I have to go to the dentist and I'm terrified.


I lost part of my filling on Thursday night and I need to go have it repaired after work today. I know it'll have to be redrilled and I'm completely freaked out, because they'll have to use novacaine on me, and I've never had that done. Because when I got the cavity that the filling is in, I was 13 years old and the dentist used that laughing gas stuff on me.

Also part of the problem is that I haven't been to a dentist in a really, really long time. First it was because I didn't have dental insurance and couldn't afford to go. Then when I got a new job and got insurance I didn't want the dentist yelling at me because it'd been so long. So I just kept putting it off and putting it off. Luckily, I've got good teeth. Haven't had a problem since that cavity when I was 13. Doesn't stop me from being terrifed that I have no choice but to go today and have the guy yell at me. [sigh]

And this on top of having a really crappy weekend. It's been raining here since Thursday and while it's been great to melt all the snow, the barometric pressure has been playing havoc with me. I've had headaches since Thursday and all I could do was lay around all weekend because I felt so crappy. It was the first weekend since Christmas day that I haven't been able to watch the new Sherlock Holmes movie. :-(

And then there's my new SPN story. I'm just over 20,000 words in now and Jensen and Jared are finally on a real first date. I've got them sitting down to a very romantic dinner that will lead up to their first kiss...and my mind has gone completely blank as to what I want them to talk about at dinner. I'm completely stalled. ARGH!

So yeah, it hasn't been a great few days and I'll probably throw up from nerves about the dentist I'm so stressed about it. [sigh]

A lot of dentists still do offer nitrous, usually in combination with novocaine. You'd probably have to pay a little extra for it, but the upside is that you'd be too out of it to care about the needles. OTOH, I've had novocaine about a million times, and it's not that bad.

Sending you a hug, and I wish I could go with you and hold your hand. Also wish I could send you some drugs, which was the only way I got through a root canal(they were for 'anxiety', which is what they put on the Rx label instead of 'scared shitless')...

Same here with my teeth...I mean, I have very good teeth and haven't had problems with them in forever. In August 2009 a very small piece broke off because I had apparently chewed on something very hard, so I had no other option but to go. But it had been five or six years since my last visit, so I was very worried. But it was okay...he didn't even yell or anything. :P Good luck!

Oh, I fully sympathize with you. I have dentist phobia like you wouldn't believe. Luckily there is the gas now, which helps you relax (there is a slight side effect to having the gas, though - nausea afterwards). But I'm extremely sensitive so the needle still hurts me. I usually ask if they can give me extra numbing gel up front so it's not so bad.

Oh Barb,I'm really suffering with you!
But I'm 100% sure that it will not be that bad and the dentist is gonna be real nice and goodlooking (maybe he even has green eyes?)so you won't feel any pain and you're
gonna be so happy after it's done.

embroiderama is correct, the one time I had novicane the dentist gave me 'laughing gas' first,I'm teriffied of needles especially coming at my face..

Good luck with the dentist. They can be scary and novacaine just sucks, but it works. Numbs freakin everything and feels just weird. I had my first since a kid around a year ago. Yeah.

I had one crappy weekend also. Daughter brought home one nasty stomach flu and we have both been down for 4 days. Of course, she is up and running. Me, not so much so. Although I have lost six pounds in the process...

My aunt is a dentist. When I was younger, she gave me this little pin in the shape of tooth, and taught me a little song to go along with it.

To keep those choppers looking awesome,

Maybe you just need a pin in the shape of a tooth to take away your worries :)

Novocaine really isn't that bad. It's just a little odd. And don't try and chew anything until you can feel your lips and tongue again. I made that mistake once. lol

I have a big dentist phobia (mom should never have let me watch Marathon Man when I was 10 D-:) I broke a molar a few months ago and still haven't called for an appointment yet, but when I finally do go in I plan on having gas, numbing gel and novicane.
