Monday already? Ugh. I had a good weekend and really, really didn't want to come into work this morning. :-)

Friday the hubby and I had date night and went to go see the new Harry Potter movie. I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed in it, and I wasn't expecting to be, since all I'd read were good reviews. It just felt...disjointed to me. Too many separate stories going on that got shoved together - hormones running rampant, quidditch, a potions book, Draco off doing his thing, Harry off with Dumbledore, more hormones, memory flashbacks, etc. I just didn't think it flowed well. And Hagrid and Neville and other great supporting characters barely had anything to do or a word to speak. :-(

Oh wait, let me back up a second. I need to rant about something. During the previews before Harry Potter I nearly fell out of my chair with happiness, only to become totally pissed off as the preview ended.

As a young kid, one of my most favorite books ever was Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. So much so that I still have my original copy of the book.

Now I don't know anyone who's ever read this book, so imagine my surprise when the preview I saw was for Cloudy! My jaw dropped in happiness, but then I got really irritated as the preview continued, because IT'S NOTHING LIKE THE BOOK!

The book is an adorable story about a grandfather who tells a bedtime story to his grandchildren about the town of Chewandswallow, where it doesn't rain water, but orange juice or hamburgers or spaghetti. There are no grocery stores because the food falls from the sky three times a day. But then the weather goes crazy and the food keeps getting bigger and bigger, massive pancakes fall down and cover the school, giant meatballs roll down the street, etc. And the citizens need to evacuate Chewandswallow on rafts made of huge pieces of bread and things. I just...I LOVED this book.

But the movie?? It's about some guy who invents a machine that makes food that somehow gets shot up into the sky. It's a bunch of made up characters that aren't in the book, INCLUDING A MONKEY. What. The. Hell.

What I don't understand is, if you loved the book so much that you wanted to make a movie out of it WHY DO YOU CHANGE THE WHOLE THING??

I know I shouldn't be so ticked off about this, but this book was a part of my childhood and it's now been completely destroyed by this stupid movie. I hope it flops. Big time.

~~~~
Ok, rant over. :-) The rest of my weekend was pretty much a shopping spree, which like, never, ever happens.
Check out my KICK ASS new gym shoes:
Are those not the coolest shoes, ever?? I only wear high top gym shoes and when I saw these in the window at Journey's in the mall I had to have them! They cost a small fortune, but SO totally worth it. :-)
Went to the music store and bought the new CDs by Rob Thomas (Cradlesong) and Daughtry (Leave this Town - which has a song called Supernatural - heh) and both are fantastic. I recommend both of them.
The shopping spree continued with a new desk chair for my home office, replacing the one I'd had for over 10 years. Then it was over to Menards where the hubby and I bought a new faucet and sprayer for the kitchen sink and a new chandelier and light for our entryway, replacing the ones that came with the house that appeared to be from 1969. :-)
Ended the weekend watching the horrible movie, Push, with Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning. I thought it looked really good, but never got to see it in the theater, so I borrowed the DVD from my buddy Andrew. The best part was seeing little Sammy Winchester himself, Colin Ford, at the very beginning of the movie. :-) It quickly went downhill from there. Ugh.
~~~~~

Oops! Nearly forgot - I watched that new BBC America show, Being Human and it's fantastic!! A ghost, werewolf and vampire are all roommates. :-) It's alternately funny and serious and OMG, there is SO much slash potential between George the werewolf and Mitchell the vampire. :-) Give it a shot if you haven't seen it.

~~~~~
So yeah, there's my long and rambling weekend. :-) How was YOURS? Were any of you lucky enough to actually be at the Supernatural panel at Comic Con?
I also have my original copy of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," it was my all time favorite. That and "Where the Wild Things Are," both of which I hope don't completely suck as films.
You know Meatballs, too?? How cool! I've never come across anyone who's heard of it! Such a neat little story. :-)
And yeah, there was a preview for Wild Things, too, and lord knows what they're gonna do to that one, too!
Had a good weekend. Relaxing and studying and torturing my sweet hubby. After all, it's my job ;-).
Being a Torchwood fan, I am still licking my wounds. I've decided not to let another show get under my skin. Nope, I'm solid as a rock on this one. No room at the inn, people. I'm done.
Then I made the mistake of watching Being Human on Saturday.
I am NOT going to get into this one. No sir! Not going to do it. So George and Mitchell are in love and make a beautiful trio with Annie. So they hug and smile and share their tea and biscuits just like my hubby and I do. So George is adorable....No. Stop me. Please.....
ROTFL! Oh, give it up, babe, you're already hooked! Don't look at me to discourage you! I haven't been able to stop thinking about George and Mitchell for days now. :-) They're so completely and totally opposite from one another but they make the cutest couple!!
C'mon, lets take this plunge together. *g*
I hate it when they make a movie based on a book and the movie ends up being nothing like the book. They seem to loose everything that made the book good in the first place.
I saw Push a week ago and I was really looking forward to it and it was ok but they didn't explain much and to me most of it didn't make sense. It was really nice seeing Colin Ford though.
And I must say your gym shoes rock! I've been looking at buying some like this for a while now.
Exactly! I mean, if you're gonna change it that much, call it something else and just make it an original movie!
I saw Push a week ago and I was really looking forward to it and it was ok but they didn't explain much and to me most of it didn't make sense.
You weren't the only one that was confused. :-) And there wasn't even a real ending on top of that. Did they think they were going to get a sequel? Ummm...no.
And I must say your gym shoes rock! I've been looking at buying some like this for a while now.
Thank you! Nike's whole line of Dunk shoes are very, very cool. All sorts of different colors and patterns.
Yeah, I agree about Harry Potter. It was like they've done so many movies that they didn't feel it necessary to put much effort into putting this one together.
I felt the same way too about the Meatballs preview. I hate it when they stray from the writer's original ideas. I just hope they haven't butchered Where the Wild Things Are too.
I'm glad it wasn't just me that wasn't all that thrilled with Harry. I mean I didn't dislike the movie, it just didn't feel all that cohesive. Those last books are SO long that it's getting impossible to make movies out of them.
You know Meatballs, too?? How cool! I've never come across anyone who's heard of it! Such a neat little story. :-)
Yeah, I definitely got the feeling watching HP that there were things they left out for length and then tried slapping the scenes together thinking no one would pick up on the incongruity of them.
Yup! We know the Meatballs book! I can practically recite it, LOL.
I guess we can't ask for master pieces when it's Hollywood interpretations we're getting. *sigh*
It was really good! George and Mitchell have incredible rapport together and I hope we get more of their backstory, since they didn't really explain how they met or how long they've been friends. And yeah, according to my DVR they're replaying the crap out of it so you shouldn't have any problem watching it. :-)
Love the sneakers! I want a pair now too!
The company responsible for "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" have been sending out promotional materials to libraries for months now...and most of the children's librarians I know have been pooh-poohing the idea, especially when they learn how UNrelated it is to the book.
I think they just liked the title, because really, that's all the two things have in common.
Man, Nike has an entire line out now of all funky, wacky colors and patterns in high tops for women. So cool!
.and most of the children's librarians I know have been pooh-poohing the idea, especially when they learn how UNrelated it is to the book.
I'm glad to hear that! I hope they steer the kids in the direction of the book.
I think you're exactly right. Or they're hoping that people won't go and try and find a book from 1982 to compare the two.
Did you watch that "Unearthed" special that was just on the other night? Since we never saw the show when it was originally on in the UK, I had no idea that after the pilot was filmed, they recast the roles of Annie, Mitchell and Herrick to the actors that we just saw in the "new" pilot.
Oh and they showed a scene from an upcoming ep where George and Mitchell jump onto the couch and roll around on top of each other! Squee! The slash is SO there. :-)
Welcome back! Where did you go for a few days? Some place fun I hope! :-)
I'm glad it wasn't just me who wasn't overwhelmed by The Half-Blood Prince. As for my favorite, I think it'll always be The Sorcerer's Stone. I just loved learning all about the Hogwarts world, the kids being so young and just learning magic. But a close second would have to be The Goblet of Fire.
hihihi
Well, I saw it. but later I realize that it was from Harry Potter!! and I was like: "ohhh yeaaaaaaaaah!
