Supernatural - "Faith" - even better three years later

I've been watching some season one episodes lately, and last night I chose Faith. As if I didn't already love this episode (it's my favorite from season one), it takes on a whole new meaning now that wev'e seen the first seven episodes of season four. Just look at some of the dialogue:

"I didn't pick you, Dean, the Lord did."

"I'm not exactly a believer."
"You will be, son. You will be."

"What did you see in my heart?"
"A young man with an important purpose, a job to do. And it isn't finished."


I mean...wow. I'd love to think that Eric had this all planned back in season one, that he knew what he was going to be doing with Dean's character down the road, and that Faith would indeed take on a whole new meaning. But even if he didn't have it planned back then, what a happy coincidence it turned out to be, eh?

I couldn't agree more! I've been thinking of watching Faith and then Houses of the Holy back-to-back before we get much further into this season myself.

Ooh, good idea, I think I'll watch Houses of the Holy tonight myself! It's not one I've watched often, but I'm thinking it'll take on new meaning as well. :-)

Yes, indeed, that does sound like some foreshadowing there, doesn't it?

I'd like to think Eric had it planned all along. That it fit in with his 'five year storyline'. If not, they did a great job of tying things together down the road. :)

Faith is definitely one of my top eps for Season 1. It's hard to pick just one for me so I have like 3 that are tied for 1st for various reasons, LOL!

I love that pieces of this are all coming together so neatly. I don't know that it's coincidental though. I think it's all part of Kripe's evil wonderful plan.

I know what you mean! For me, Scarecrow has always been thisclose to being my favorite as well. :-)

It's fantastic! Like us finally finding out what Mary's "I'm sorry" meant in Home, too.

That's why we need to trust Kripke. When an episode happens or something in an episode takes place and fans start screaming, I just shake my head, I have faith that he's giving us little bits of inside info that we don't understand yet. Kinda like the Big Guy :):)

I have to admit that sometimes he tests my faith (all of season three...) but overall I've been really impressed with how he's put this show together, how he ties things together from one season to the next. And how he doesn't string things out for too long (the killing of the YED, finding out the meaning of Mary's cryptic "I'm sorry" in Home, etc.).

Totally prophetic! I'd love for it to have been deliberate, too, because that would really make Kripke a master in tying things together, but I'll take a happy accident, too, because it's still way cool. :-)

It's not so long ago I watched this episode with a friend. She already starts to love SPN and so we're watching the whole show from the beginning.
I had the same thoughts as you...it's an interessting question if Kripke already planned that along.

The whole 4th season is awesome. 6 of 7 episodes were that great that I would probably kill for them. He definitly chose the right job!

I know!!! I just rewatched Season One and now I'm Season Two (I'm in the midst of a marathon) and when I watched Faith (which my husband CANNOT watch, it's actually said, he's afraid of the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" now, if he hears it on the radio he freaks out and yells so he can't hear it before he can turn it off) I was like "oh yes, he has a purpose!" because after Sam died and came back I had promised myself that I would believe in Kripke, no matter what, since the man obviously had some plan that I was just no privy to, and now that we can see it coming to fruition (it's like watching Home and hearing Mary saying "I'm sorry" to Sam and now, after In the Beginning you know why, so it means SO MUCH MORE) it's just so much more amazing.

I don't watch it that much! LOL

Seriously though, what happened was this: he couldn't watch the first season of the show because it conflicted with some other show he watched so during the hiatus between Season One and Season Two I had him mainline the complete season. And that is how I got him addicted to it.

How he got afraid of the song goes like this: he's always like BOC and he's always, especially, liked that song. He was listening to that song and some lady backed into his truck. Crushed his front end up something good and since he had a pretty bad accident a year before (that he's been permanently damaged from, that we're still in the middle of a three tier lawsuit from) he somehow decided that listening to the song was, in some way, tempting fate to hurt him, or something.

So now he can't listen to it, for fear of getting hurt!

I have actually seen all of the first season episodes probably five or six times each, easily, the second season, five or four, the third season, four or three, and now the fourth I've watched twice each, so far, though after I'm done with watching the third season again I'm going to be up to three times each.

Yeah... Way too much free time...

Funniest thing just happened! I was on Facebook and my away message was "watching Supernatural" and people were posting comments and my uncle (my aunt's husband) posted, something along the lines of "damn those good-looking Winchester boys."

This post was after I had just replied to another person's comment by saying that I was mainlining the seasons since I was writing J2 RPS for my NaNoWriMo fic and I needed inspiration since I was upset over Prop 8 which managed to harsh my buzz of the election.

So I was all "and I can't believe my uncle knows I write RPS"

I'm just happy it was him, since we then went on to talk about how he meant it in a hetero way, and I said that if he could watch Iron Man and not feel a twinge over RD Jr. then he must be straight and he replied "well, maybe not 100%..."

Yeah, he's young though, I was born when my aunt was 15, so he's only 39 now, turning 40 in February, so we're not that far apart in age.

My Dad is the oldest and his youngest brother is 10 years younger than him and his second youngest brother is 8 years younger than him and my mom has a younger sister who is 10 years younger than her as well, so I've always considered them to be more like my way older brothers and sisters or like cousins or something. I never really called them aunt or uncle, and our relationships have always been more teasing and relaxed than adult/child anyway.
