A "Supernatural" presence at Media West

Ok, so me and
charityflint? We ROCK! We're also the two biggest geeks you'll ever find. :-)
See, the Media West convention, held in Lansing, MI each year is fast approaching. It's only three weeks away, and me and Charity are determined to make sure our new fandom is well represented.
We were all set to sign up to moderate a panel on SPN, but a couple of other gals beat us to it. Hey, no problem! Glad to see that there will be fans there eager to talk about SPN and we'll be right there to join in. :-)
So that takes care of programming. Next up - our door!
If you're not familar with Media West, there's a contest each year for door decoration, in various categories. A lot of folks enter, and a lot of folks just decorate for fun. We're talking at least a hundred doors, here. It's a big thing at the con.
Naturally, me and Charity's door is going to be all Supernatural. Our centerpiece is a LIFE SIZE poster of Jensen Ackles. All six feet of him. Heh. You should have seen us yesterday afternoon, in my kitchen, cutting out 32 pieces of paper and taping them together to make the one giant poster. Totally hilarious! Jensen just kept getting bigger and bigger until he went off the table and we had to use a chair to hold up the poster. :-)
We're seriously thinking of getting him laminated for fear of fangirls wanting to kiss the poster. Ha!
The poster is actually going to go on the wall next to our door. For the door itself, I got one of those 24"x36" promo posters that'll go on the center of the door. Around it we're putting up screencaps, with word balloons, with the dialogue from the scene. We're focusing on the funny, classic lines. Should look great when we're done!
Let's move on to clothing...
The only "official" piece of merchandising that SPN has is the Metallicar shirt from TWOP. Since we can't wear that shirt all six days we're at the con [grin] we knew we had to take matters into our own hands.
(Speaking of merchandise, my side business Media Mugs will be selling SPN mugs, mousepads, totebags, coasters, fandom journals, checkbook covers and keychains, all designed by yours truly.)
The result? Charity and I each made THREE shirts yesterday. We each took our main SPN LJ icon (Sexy Ghostbusters for me and Road Warriors for Charity), blew them up to letter paper size and turned them into t-shirt transfers. :-) Next, we both used one of the promo pics of Sam and Dean sitting next to the lake in Dead in the Water, added their names and "Supernatural" to it, and poof! Another shirt done. Last, I took an art piece I had done called Scary Just Got Sexy and Charity took one I had done with two different pics of Dean and voila! We each had our third shirt.
We're going to be walking billboards for SPN, hoping to attract some new fans.
But what good is a shirt without some accessories?
First, Charity got some leather cording and made us each leather bracelets just like Dean wears. Whoo-hoo! But she wasn't done yet. She grabbed some sculpy clay and the next thing I know, we've each got pendants like Dean wears, too! Spray painted gold and everything. They look fantastic! She did an incredible job on them. We're hoping some fellow SPN fans see them and go "that's awesome!"
Did I mention we're total geeky fangirls? Yeah? Just checking. ;-)
Moving on to the art show...
I felt the need to represent SPN in the art show, so I created 12 pieces. Ten pieces of flat art and two calendars. Hopefully that'll be a good indicator of how many SPN fans are at the con, if I get any bids on them!
And last, but not least...the vid show
Charity and I are in the process of creating at least one songvid for the vid show. Now that'll get SPN a *lot* of exposure at the con. :-)
Whew! Well, I think that about covers every aspect of the convention. Yes, we're geeks, but we're doing our part to make people aware of a totally awesome show that they may have been missing out on.
Here's hoping we get some new recruits!

Date: 2006-05-10 02:12 pm (UTC)Are you kidding? You are geniuses. Pure, evil geniuses. And I mean evil in only the best way.
I really, really want to go and will investigate a day pass, but we'll have to see. Mostly, I want to see you gals and others and maybe buy some stuff. It's the buying part that is putting a major crimp in the plan. I hate being poor.
