See, I knew I shouldn't have turned the computer off when I did last night, 'cause about ten minutes later the sides for 4x08 were posted. :-) Got to read them this morning...

Ok, so the title of this one is Wishful Thinking and yep, it's the wishing well episode with the reported giant teddy bear we heard about in the various ComicCon interviews. :-) The bear doesn't actually make an appearance in the sides, but Dean does say that they're "teddy bear doctors" so it's a safe bet to say that Dean may finally get his revenge against that nasty Snuggle Bear. [snerk]

The sides are for Wes and Hope, who are getting ready to be married. It's easy to see right off the bat that Hope's relationship with Wes is a little...bizarre and not healthy. She's obsessively in love with him and you can tell that it kinda freaks Wes out. It's easy to figure out that Wes made a wish that Hope would fall in love with him, but things aren't turning out quite like he'd expected.

Enter Sam and Dean, who are pretending to be florists for the wedding. [snerk]

While Hope is out of the room, Sam and Dean confront Wes, telling him they know what he did and Wes spills the beans.

He tells the boys that his grandfather found the coin in North Africa, in WW2 and brought it back with him. He told Wes that it was a real wish-granting coin, but no one should ever use it. His grandfather was all he had, and after he died he decided to try the coin.

Sam and Dean tell him that he needs to come with them (with the helpful prodding of Dean's gun) and that he's going to wish the coin back. Wes wants to know why that his wish coming true is a bad thing.

The boys tell him that it didn't just work for him, but it works for everyone in the town and that's why everyone's going a bit insane - the coin is cursed and "the wishes go south. All of them."

Dean asks Wes if he thinks that his relationship with Hope is functional, if that's really what he wished for. Wes says that he wished that she'd love him more than anything. Sam asks if that's healthy and Wes said it's a hell of a lot better than when she didn't know he was alive.

The pages skip around some, so I don't know where this part falls in, but it seems to be after Sam and Dean ask Wes to go with him.

Wes and Hope are back at the restaurant where Wes put the coin in the fountain, and he finds out that Hope wished a man dead (why, we don't know). Wes realizes this has to stop, even if it means losing Hope, so he kisses her one last time, then reaches in and removes the coin from the fountain.

He looks at Hope and feels like he's waking from a dream. He says her name and she looks at him and says, "Do I know you...?"

And that's where the pages end.

I'm not going OMG over this one, (at least yet) because just from the pages here it seems like a pretty slow paced episode. I'm intrigued as to what the other people in the town wished for, though and how they're gonna make a giant teddy bear not a "jump the shark" moment. :-)

Your thoughts, guys?

I think the scenes we're not seeing are the ones that'll make the episode - the insanity of townspeople, probably.

I wonder how this affect/reflect in the boys dinamics. If they had found this coin earlier, Sam would have used it to try and save Dean, and damn the consequences.

Yeah, I absolutely agree. Wes and Hope's story seemed rather tame.

Wow, what an awesome thought! I wonder if perhaps this will come up in the episode. It would be fantastic if it did!

I'm not a person given to a lot of meta, but anytime I see a situation in which a person (usually a man in sci-fi TV) uses magic or chemicals or an ancient device to make a woman fall in love with him/sleep with him, it smacks of rape to me. It's just magical roofies. In the SGA version (the Richard Kind ep where he takes an herb that makes him attractive) and the previous SPN one (where what's-his-name uses his mind control) the writers don't seem to deal with the rape aspect at all. I think this episode will make me more than a little uncomfortable.

Just my 2cents, Canadian.

That's a really, really good point. She's basically doing something against her will and wouldn't have slept with Wes/fallen for him if not for chemicals controlling her.

This is why I think I'm going to have the same issue with Kristy (who I'm pretty sure is really Ruby) if she and Sam are having some kind of relationship, which has been hinted at. Because again, that's rape on Ruby's part, using this Kristy's body like that.

We may both be uncomfortable this season.

In my one lonely SPN story, I make mention of the fact that sex with the crossroads demon while she's inhabiting a maid's body certainly isn't consensual for the maid.

Having now seen the episode, I dunno if they're having sex or not. The writers were certainly implying it, but then the writers have been known to push us toward something purely as misdirection.

On another list someone suggested that this Kristy is actually Sam's lover (or partner or friend) and she lets Ruby borrow her body for short periods in order to communicate with Sam. I think that isn't likely or why what they pretend she was a one-night stand? But, I think it's a nifty premise that they could really do something with. Hell, Ruby could possess *Dean* in order to communicate with Sam.

Consensual possession. Huh. Castiel does it.

True, true. And they may only have made it seem that way because they needed an excuse as to why she was in the room with Sam. PLEASE let it be that, or I will have a serious, serious problem this season. Because no, I don't think that Kristy is letting a demon borrow her body!

Consensual possession. Huh. Castiel does it.

Or at least that what he says, eh?

I was kinda hoping that it would be, like, childhood wishes coming true so we could get a body-swap episode (I've wanted one since season 1), where Sam blames himself for wanting to be like Dean when they were kids (because big bro was cool), and Dean blames hismelf for wanting to be like Sam (because he thinks that John loved Sam more).

And if the giant teddy bear is bloodthirsty, it will not be JTS (if that's not already an abbreviation, I'm officially making it one because I'm tired of typing that out so many times before the season's even freakin' aired!).

I want a body-swap one so bad I can't stand it!! My GOD, but Jensen and Jared would be awesome pretending to be each other's characters!

And if the giant teddy bear is bloodthirsty, it will not be JTS

I'd love it if it was bloodthirsty! I could totally get behind Dean blowing away and Evil Snuggle Bear. :-)

Yeah...I read giant teddy bear and think Stay-Puffed Marshmallow man...

The rest of it sounds all right, though. Reminds me a bit of the X-files episode where the Djinn wishes kept going awry for everyone...

I'm so afraid of that! We can only hope it's some crazed, blood thirsty Evil Snuggle Bear that Dean gets to blow away. :-)

Oh god, I'd totally forgotten about that episode! Is that the one that ends with her being freed?

LOL! I'm sorry to say, but in these sides at least they're visiting Wes and Hope's house and just looking at pictures of how Hope would like her wedding to look. :-)
