Hey.

Monday again, huh? Lovely.

So I posted Jared birthday porn on Saturday. Admittedly, it's not my best offering. [sigh] But my writing-fu has been broken for months, since Jensen's birthday back in March, actually, and I was afraid the Muse had decided to leave me, permanently. So I think I forced it a bit, having decided to write the fic only a few days before Jared's birthday, and it shows. I'd been wanting to write a "Jared and Jensen steal the Impala" fic for a long time, and I figured Jared's bday would be a good excuse as to why the boys stole it. I guess I should've just kept the idea on ice until I could've done a better job with it. :-( And I also hate posting fic on the weekend, because with people out and about during the summer, they don't often check LJ until Monday and don't bother to get caught up on the weekend stuff. Good job having your birthday on a Saturday, Jared! ;-)

So please forgive me for the crappy writing. I'll do better next time, I promise.

Anyway, moving on...

One thing that IS going good for me is the new Supernatural songvid that I'm making for Eastern Media Con. I got all the clips together last weekend, so this weekend I sat down and actually started making the vid. I'm about halfway through and I'm quite pleased with the results. Maybe if all of you are good, I'll post it here in my LJ when I'm finished. :-)

Went and saw Dark Knight after work on Friday and wow...what a totally intense movie. Christian Bale rocks the part yet again, my hometown city of Chicago looked fantastic, Rachel still sucks (why couldn't they find a better actress even the second time around??), Harvey Dent's story was sad and tragic, and The Joker was crazy frightening. Heath Legder, you were a life taken too soon, and this film, and that role, proves it. I don't know if I'll be able to watch this movie as many as the zillion times I've watched Batman Begins, simply because it's really, really dark. I'll have to be in the right mood to watch it, kinda like Brokeback Mountain.

Stopped off at Sports Authority on my way home from the movie because I had a great coupon from their mailing list, and scored me a wicked pair of Nike hightops for only $24.97! Needless to say, I've been wearing them ever since. :-)

I've been emailing with Betsy Morris, the screenwriter for Ten Inch Hero and found out that they've tried several times to get a screening here in Chicago. They actually got in to one of the festivals here, only to have the festival lose part of the venue somehow and ended up having to cancel the entire festival. ARGH! I was SO FREAKING CLOSE to seeing this movie! That was just pain painful to hear.

Ok, well, better get going. Happy Monday, everyone and I hope you had a good weekend.

Any guesses as to what Jensen gave Jared for his birthday? ;-)

Guh - I'm behind on all my fic reading - got to 7/18 on my lists and that's probably where I'm stuck for a while. From now until the end of the month I've got 25 hours of things to do each day. :( But I'm sure your fic was great, and I'm sure I will say so when I finally get a chance to read it in August. :)

I agree with everything you said about The Dark Knight, but you have to give Maggie Gyllenhaal some credit. She did a better job that Katie "My Face Is More Crooked Than A Picasso" Holmes. At least Rachel had a personality this time around, albeit a lousy personality.

My hatred for Katie Holmes is so great that I almost wish she'd played Rachel again. ;)

Well, according to Jim Beaver's myspace page, they all hoisted a few for Jared's birthday until about 3:40 am on Saturday, lol.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of wherever they were!

Oh - and did Betsy say where they tried to screen 10" Hero? Cuz it sounds like the perfect movie for the Gene Siskel. Or even the Music Box. And the Century on Diversey and Clark always has alternative movies, and tiny indie films on it's roster. I'm glad to hear they have been trying, because I can't believe the movie hasn't been in Chicago yet!

No, Betsy didn't say where the festival was to have taken place. And yeah, I agree, there's gotta be a ton of places that would love to show the film, don't you think?? It's so darn frustrating! Argh!

It was NOT crappy writing...

...but I understand the feeling of wanting to tinker with a tale FOREVER; I have one original BSG fic in an old fanzine that I really, really wish I had kept back and rewritten. Ah, well. Loved your b-day porn.

Saw "The Dark Knight" and was so freakin' blown away that I saw it again later that day. (Monday. This is why nobody will go to the movies with me, unless they warn me, "come back tomorrow, I am not seeing this thing again." Hee.) One little quibble: I am not entirely sure about Christian Bale. He's not bad, but somehow he's not entirely Batman for me, maybe I need to process him a bit more. So far, I've only really loved Adam West (yes, I know) and Michael Keaton; Val Kilmer was interesting, but a bit too young, and George Clooney certainly nailed Bruce the Playboy but not the Bat...so, I'll think about it. But DK does what comic fans knew all along: that comic characters, when done with dignity, can be rich and full and have a strong, powerful story. It's a comic book for grown-ups. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman were fine support (yeah, CW, 'geezer alert'!)and I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was way better than Katie Holmes. Aaron Eckhart was wonderful and, for most of the movie anyhow, pretty freakin' gorgeous. And Gary Oldman, playing a regular guy?? Who knew?? Really nice that Chicago was Gotham City--I don't think Chicago has been used as well as a movie set since The Untouchables, especially LaSalle St. I've always loved that area. Walking through it is like being surrounded by mountains of stone and glass.

And oh, Heath. He's so bittersweet to watch, knowing he will not be back (there's got to be a sequel, to answer the questions at the end). He was mesmerizing, horrifying, and heartbreaking. People applauded at the end. If "Brokeback" showed that he was more than a pretty face, DK would have put the final nail in the coffin, if he'd lived. What a turn his career would have made.

Yeah, that's it exactly. The idea was so good in my head but I don't think it translated very well onto paper and I should've just waited a few more days or so, who cares if it wasn't posted exactly on Jared's bday and fixed it up a bit more.

I'm glad someone did! :-)

Ha! Awesome!

One little quibble: I am not entirely sure about Christian Bale. He's not bad, but somehow he's not entirely Batman for me

It took me a bit, too, after Begins came out. But he's young, raw, Batman, still trying to figure out what he's gotten himself into. Unlike all of the other portrayals where Bruce had been Batman for a long time. So it's an entirely different feel to the character.

Val Kilmer was interesting, but a bit too young

Dude! Kilmer rocked the part! Until Christian came along, Val was my hands down favorite. :-)

It's a comic book for grown-ups

That's it exactly. Comic book movies don't have to be silly.

Aaron Eckhart was wonderful and, for most of the movie anyhow, pretty freakin' gorgeous

I thought he was so fabulous as Harvey and it broke my heart, seeing him turn into Two Face.

Really nice that Chicago was Gotham City--I don't think Chicago has been used as well as a movie set since The Untouchables,

We looked great, didn't we? :-) Chicago needs to be used more often! We're quite photogenic. *g*

Amen, sister. At least his last work was a high note for his career. He'll be greatly missed.

Oh, P.S....

Saw the trailer for "Watchmen," too. Gotta admit, I had eyes only for JDM. Leather, gun, smiley-face button...oh, WOW.

Oh man, I saw the trailer, too! JDM was damn sexy! And I was all set to see the movie until I read the background on the Watchman graphic novel (which I'd never read) and about Jeff's character in particular - now I don't want to go. I don't want to spoil anything in case you don't know what I'm talking about.

I don't know what's going on but it seems like all of the great SPN fic writers have been suffering from severe writer's block lately. IT REALLY BLOWS.
