Well, there goes another holiday weekend

Well, crap. Is it Monday already?? I need another holiday weekend! :-)
So how was YOUR 4th of July holiday, everyone?
I started it off by screwing up my knee playing softball Wednesday night, so I was hobbling around on Thursday and Friday. Grrr...
The hubby and I had a delightful day on the 4th. The weather was absolutely perfect. We went to our local fest during the day to walk around and eat lunch at the food tent (burgers and chicken strips and fries and mozzarella sticks and Dippin' Dots - yum!), then relaxed back at the house for the rest of the afternoon before heading out for our picnic dinner. We got all our food together and went to one of our forest preserves where we ate dinner right by the lake. It was so beautiful and perfect. :-) After we ate we walked around one of the paths there, over the bridge, where we saw a little beaver! It was so cute! It was swimming in the water, with plants in it's mouth, and it disappeared into the reeds along the shore.
Our attempt to watch fireworks that night was a complete disaster, though. [sigh] We decided to go to our local fest, instead of to another town that we'd been to before. Big mistake. You'd think getting there two hours before the fireworks start would be sufficient. We were wrong. People were parking three miles away. No way in hell was I doing that and after driving around for ages trying to park and then giving up in disgust, it was too late to try and get to the other town to see their display. So we ended up back at home, watching a movie instead. :-( And the movie (Cassandra's Dream with Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell) sucked! So not a good ending to the holiday. :-(
The weather was still perfect on Saturday, and we spent the day running errands and sitting outside. We made fondue for dinner and ate it out on the patio. Yum!
It got quite hot on Sunday, so I stayed indoors and got caught up on a lot of reading. I also spent part of the day watching the tv series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers that my friend
nanner_buddy made DVDs of for me. You haven't lived until you've seen Richard Dean Anderson singing and square dancing! LOL!
The perfect topper to the weekend was that my asshole neighbors have been gone for EIGHT DAYS. I don't know where they went and I don't care and I'm hoping they don't come back! The peace and quiet has been deafening.
It was so, so hard to get up for work today and it's all cloudy and depressing out, so that's not helping. Blech.
I've only been on the computer for about five minutes since Thursday afternoon, so I'm incredibly behind on what's going on in all your lives. I'm also behind in answering back comments, especially those on Rising Son # 3. I'm not ignoring you, I promise! I hope to get caught up today and tomorrow.
Well, I guess I should get back to work. Hope all of you had a great holiday!

Date: 2008-07-08 06:13 am (UTC)Sorry about your knee, I hope it feels better now!
Your day of the 4th sounds great! As for watching the fireworks, I have seen the fireworks display in this town twice, once was great we were very close it was like they were right over my head. But then they changed the venue and the second time sucked, they seemed very far away!
But to get a good seat here, you have to arrive and stake out your place at like 10 am, this is a place thet is not close to any facilities, or food or anything else! And the show usually starts about 9 or 10pm. It's hardly worth it in my opinion.
Maybe you could sneak in and change the locks on your neighbor's hous while they are gone!

Oh geez, that's totally crazy! No fireworks display is worth that.

LOL! Don't tempt me!
