Some thoughts on the SPN season finale
Apr. 24th, 2008 07:06 amI just came across this article at About.com that talks about the remaining four Supernatural episodes this season, and there's a comment that Sera Gamble makes that kinda worries me...
Here's the part from the article:
"No Quarter" (3x16, airing May 15). The season finale, written by series creator Eric Kripke, takes us up to Dean's last day on Earth. "It's a fight to the finish," writer/producer Sara Gamble told Sci Fi Wire. "Several of the players that we've been watching deal with this over the course of the season will be in the episode. We said we weren't going to make it easy for them, and we've made it pretty difficult, bordering upon impossible." Will Dean survive? "For all you know, [in the fourth season] it's going to be Sam with a flashlight in haunted houses with a special cell phone that calls hell," Gamble joked. "Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Dean stayed in Hell for a while – after all, that's how it played out for John."
It's the underlined part that worries me. I DO NOT WANT multiple episodes without Dean, with stupid, freaking Ruby riding shotgun in the Impala with Sam. I will absolutely blow a gasket if that happens. If Dean must be in Hell for awhile, please have Sam out on his own, searching for a way to get Dean back or have Bobby working with him. Or for god's sake, bring back Ellen to help!
I'm not saying it wouldn't be good drama to have Dean actually in Hell, just that if it happens I hope it plays out well.

Date: 2008-04-24 05:01 pm (UTC)As would I, because the last time we saw her, it was like the writers finally got her right and then she was gone. [shakes head]
And Cassie? Um, no thanks. LOL!
Bobby would be nice
Bobby would be awesome. I love Bobby. :-)

We got a glimpse of what Sam would be like without Dean in the world the trickster created in Mystery Spot, but to actually see that in action, for real this time, with Sam desperately searching for a way to get Dean out - damn, I think that'd be really powerful. And then of course Sam does get him out, and the reunion would be freaking awesome. :-)

Neither do I, but nor would I want it to just be the Dean show, either, you know? I want it to be about both brothers, equally. That's when the show is at it's best.

Date: 2008-04-24 05:14 pm (UTC)No, not at all! We know from when Meg came back, when she was describing Hell to Dean how horrible it is down there, even for a demon, let alone a human that the demons hate. Dean would be completely damaged.
But what do you want to be the writers take the easy way out and have Dean not remember anything, like after he woke up from the coma in IMTOD?

Date: 2008-04-24 05:25 pm (UTC)Besides, Sam was dead, he doesn't remember anything. Although, my favorite scenario would be to finally see some forces of good stand up for the boys and make sure Dean's soul never reaches hell. Angels, fairies, leprechauns :) I don't even care. If there's evil there must be good. And the boys have been fighting on the side of good for 20 years now. They deserve some payback. :) When Mystery Spot was over I actually though the Loki... what's he called, the god-dude :) was on their side. I'm still not over that. Whatever he did. Cause no evil would just agree to rotate it all back to normal without consequences.

Date: 2008-04-25 03:55 am (UTC)Well, Barb, I seem to be in the minority here but I don't believe Dean is going to hell. First of all, if he did, how does he ever get back to his body? We've seen what happens when it's time to collect on deals with the devil, and it's not pretty. From Crossroad Blues we know that the hellhounds come for you, and apparently rip your body to shreds. We know it happened with Robert Johnson, the architect, the doctor, and with Evan. I suppose it didn't happen with John because he went willingly and immediately, while the demon he made the deal with was still there and not after a year, or ten years.
And just to clarify in case it isn't clear, I remember reading this Sera Gamble interview back in March and your underlined line above was not said by her. It's apparently speculation by the guy at tv.com.
And a number of people have said in various places that I've read that Dean has to go to hell because that's what this season's been about and it would be a copout if he didn't. Again, I don't agree that that's what the season has been about, at least not solely. It's also been about Sam searching for a way to save Dean from going to hell. And they've also spent the season leading us to believe that Sam has been chosen to lead some demon army. I still firmly believe that somehow Sam is going to save Dean - I'm just not sure how and I so hope it's not at the cost of him having to turn *evil* for want of a better word. My initial hope and thought was that Sam would somehow figure out something to save Dean because Dean had saved him last year and is in this awful predicament now because he saved Sam. Now, after DALD, which ends with Dean saying he doesn't want to die and Sam saying "We’ll find a way to save you” I think they are going to figure out a way together to somehow get Dean out of this. And without my sweet Sammy going evil for real! Sam might *act* like he is going *evil* but the boys are going to trick the demons in the end, I just know it. I also believe that we aren't going to know the actual outcome of the deal and whether Dean is saved until the 1st ep of Season 4. I think that is going to be the cliffhanger.
I DO NOT WANT multiple episodes without Dean, with stupid, freaking Ruby riding shotgun in the Impala with Sam.
I also don't believe there is any way that Dean is not going to be in every episode - I refuse to believe that. Kripke can be crazy, but he is not suicidal. I'm also still of the belief that Ruby is not going to be around after the resolution of the deal, whether that is the last ep of this season or the first ep of next. As soon as Sam finds out she's been stringing him along, she will be gone (I hope!).
But what do I know!

Date: 2008-04-25 02:08 pm (UTC)Well...kinda like Sam being totally dead and coming back to life? As long as Sam doesn't burn Dean's body I'm thinking he has a chance to come back. :-)
From Crossroad Blues we know that the hellhounds come for you, and apparently rip your body to shreds.
I do wonder about that, though. Sam and Dean never saw the body of the architect or the doctor woman or the painter. What did happen to their bodies? Were they torn to shreds? Because Robert Johnson's body wasn't. He was perfectly whole, lying on the floor when he died. So that gives me hope that Dean's body will still be intact!
And just to clarify in case it isn't clear, I remember reading this Sera Gamble interview back in March and your underlined line above was not said by her. It's apparently speculation by the guy at tv.com.
Oh you're kidding me! Well, I guess that makes me feel a bit better then, if it didn't come from Sera herself.
And a number of people have said in various places that I've read that Dean has to go to hell because that's what this season's been about and it would be a copout if he didn't
I kinda attend to agree with this. *g* Only because Kripke strung us along all of second season with "Sam is going to turn evil" and absolutely nothing happened with it. I honestly will be upset with Kripke if he does it again with "Dean's going to hell" and then nothing ever comes of it, either.
I don't agree that that's what the season has been about, at least not solely.
Oh, I do agree with you there, it's been more than that, definitely.
I still firmly believe that somehow Sam is going to save Dean
Me, too. I just think Dean's gonna go to Hell and then Sam will figure out how to save him and bring him back.
I'm just not sure how and I so hope it's not at the cost of him having to turn *evil* for want of a better word.
God, I don't want that, either! Only because I'm then afraid that we'll end up having Sam vs. Dean, good vs. evil, as Dean tries to save Sam and it all becomes a vicious circle that's gonna get old, really fast.
Sam might *act* like he is going *evil* but the boys are going to trick the demons in the end, I just know it.
Oooh, now that would be great!
I also believe that we aren't going to know the actual outcome of the deal and whether Dean is saved until the 1st ep of Season 4. I think that is going to be the cliffhanger.
Yep, totally. It's gonna be a monster of a cliffhanger. Thank goodness we already know it's been renewed!
Kripke can be crazy, but he is not suicidal.
LOL!
As soon as Sam finds out she's been stringing him along, she will be gone (I hope!).
That's exactly what I've been thinking, too. I mean, that's the only reason neither Sam or Dean (especially Dean) hasn't killed her already. She's totally useless to them!
Boy, the finale is gonna be interesting indeed. :-)

Date: 2008-05-16 07:17 pm (UTC)she thinks jensen isn't coming back next season... i agree w/you that kripke won't get rid of dean/jensen like that. besides the plot, don't theyhave 5 yr contracts?
anyway, i think they'll find some spell to get dean's body back.... sam was only dead for a day or so, but we don't know how long it will take sam to get dean back.
yeah he's ripped up but at least the hell hounds didn't mess with the pretty face!!!
has anyone actually heard anything that jensen won't be back? jim said jensen was crying the whole time they were shooting the finale, but could that be b/c he was leaving? i don't want too many spoilers for next season, but i want to know that jensen will be back as dean... and not just as flashback/dream/etc kind of stuff.
