Ah, another Monday
Apr. 14th, 2008 07:57 amDid you all have a nice weekend? Me, I didn't even leave the house! LOL!
It was nice to just relax for a couple days, though I did work on a few things for Media West coming up next month. Then I spent a good part of Sunday working on my Supernatural scrapbook. See, I collect clippings about SPN and Jensen and Jared and I've got to have well over 100 by now. They're from here in the U.S. and Canada, France, Germany, Japan, etc. all over the place. It'd been awhile since I put things actually in the book (which is now one scrapbook and two 3-ring binders) so I sat down and got things organized.
Switching topics, I want to thank all you guys who voted in my "Jared movie" poll on Friday. It was a close race, but Action/Adventure ended up beating Western by just a single vote. :-)
Personally, I picked Western, because just visualizing Jared in nothing but boots, leather chaps and a cowboy hat....oh yeah, baby! LOL!
What I thought was great was that every single option got at least one vote, meaning that we all think Jared's such a good, versatile actor that he can play absolutely anything. Cool!
Oh, and those five of you who voted for "anything where he gets naked"? Gold stars all around! LOL!
Question - So I was watching Something Wicked last night before I went to bed and I had a sudden thought about the EMF reader the boys use. Can anyone tell me why sometimes it picks up on entities that are no longer there and sometimes not? Like in SW - the EMF didn't light up in the girl's room where the shtriga was. But in say, Bedtime Stories, it DID light up at the window where the ghost girl had been. I thought at first it only picks up spirits, but it lit up when it detected the scarecrow in Scarecrow, so that theory went out the window. Anyone have an answer? Am I missing something totally obvious here?
Ok, better run and get this day started. Have a good one, guys!

Date: 2008-04-14 04:12 pm (UTC)Happy Monday!
I would say that some beings emit electromagnetic energy and some don't. Some emit so much that it remains after they've left and some don't emit enough to leave a trace.
(Though I realize that probably it's more like, whatever the writer wants the EMF meter to do, it does! *LOL* )

I totally love your explanation, but something tells me it's more along the lines of your second one - whatever the writers feel like doing! LOL!
Do they NOT realize that us SPN fans pick things apart to death? :-)

Date: 2008-04-15 04:02 pm (UTC)Longer answer? According to my ghost gurus, Jason and Grant, EMF occurs naturally wherever there is something that generates an electromagnetic field. It is theorized that spirits use this energy to try and manifest, or may even be, in some way, made up of that kind of energy and the meters detect it. The rule of thumb with EMF is when you get an anomolous reading, you first check to see what could be generating it naturally--like bad wiring or major electronic appliances. If none of that is present and you still get a high reading, it might indicate the presence of a spirit.
Incidently, some people are more sensitive to high EMF and experience "side effects" which include paranoia, a feeling of being watched, rashes, ringing in the ears and even nausea. Very unpleasant stuff, but often very similar to what some might call a supernatural experience.

Date: 2008-04-15 05:27 pm (UTC)The writers don't know crap about real EMF meters and can't be expected to keep anything like continuity for something so "minor."
You know, I kinda figured that was gonna be it. :-) Don't they know that us SPN fans pick apart things to death? *bg*
Longer answer?
Hey, thanks for the info! Think you could forward that to Kripke? ;-)

Date: 2008-04-16 12:03 am (UTC)You know, I could, but he'd just snort and ask Sera to find a way for Bela to lecture the boys about it or something.
And then she'd steal their EMF meter.
