First Jared and now Jensen - these boys can't keep away from slasher flicks!

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Jensen Ackles is in final negotiations to play a lead in Lionsgate's "My Bloody Valentine 3-D."

In helmer Patrick Lussier's remake of the 1981 slasher film, Ackles will play Tom, a handsome, principled man who returns to his home in Harmony, Mo., 10 years after 22 people were murdered on Valentine's night. Back in Montana, Tom finds he still is smitten with his first love, Sarah (Jaime King), and is now a murder suspect. Zane Smith wrote the screenplay.

Jack Murray, John Dunning and Andre Link will executive produce. Executive producers for Lionsgate are Mike Paseornek and John Sacchi.

Production begins May 12. A Jan. 23 release is planned.

Ackles (the CW's "Supernatural") is repped by WMA and Management 360.

Oh god, me, too! There's no other genre of movies I dislike more than slasher flicks. [sigh] BUT, if ANY part of Jensen is in 3D...well, you know. LOL!

And please, Hollywood.... enough with the remakes already!!

Yes! Is there not an original idea left??

ROFL!!! I was really wondering about that title and if they really mean it's gonna be in 3D cause that could be well... interesting :-)

I think it's awesome! And I'm quite dissapointed by his fans' reaction. The movie isn't even in the can yet but they already know that it will be utter fail. Right. It's better for him to do movies that aren't even out on DVD after two years yet *shakes head*

I have the original My Bloody Valentine on DVD. I got it in the $5.00 bin at Walmart. It is craptastic. However, I love bad horror movies, so Jensen being in this remake I don't mind, because nothing can be worse than the original! :)

The thing is that remake doesn't mean word for word the same thing. You have different directors, different writers, different actors. It's like complaining that someone is doing Shakespeare again because people saw it already so many times that there is nothing new to show. But there is because everybody has their own way of presenting the idea. And the fact that it'll be in 3-D could put it in a whole new light.

Oh, god the original is that bad, eh? Why oh why do the boys have to been in the only kind of movies that I just can't stand to watch??

Oh, lordy. The original was truly a classic of schlock cinema. Miners = picks through various body parts. And really, you just can't have too much of that.

Bring on the buckets o' blood!

More like bring on a bucket for me to hurl!

But there was also gratuitous sex scenes in the original, so if we get Jensen naked in the new movie, it may be salvageable. :)

Why did no one tell me there was the possibility of seeing Jensen nekkid in this film?? And in 3D no less!! [falls over dead]

I'm happy that he's getting work, but there's no genre of film I like less than blood and guts horror movies, so unfortunately I probably won't see this one. :-(

And I guess some folks aren't happy that it's yet another remake and don't hold out high hopes for it. [shrug]

So disappointing. Is this all that he is offered? I hate to think they are getting pigeon holed.

Why pigeon holed? *scratches head* Two years ago he did a romantic comedy. Last year, he did theater. This year, he does a horror/suspense movie. In the past he did sci-fi, the Blondie movie and a soap opera. Sure, he did also Devour and now he's filming SPN but that doesn't make him a horror movie actor.

And I think he really wanted to do it because at the con he said that he didn't want to say anything about his plans for the summer to not jinx it. I'm quite looking forward to seeing it. I bet he'll be great! :)

Well, I am disappointed. I think he is so much better than a genre film. And Lionsgate? Not exactly Warner Bros. Most of their stuff does go directly to DVD. I am really worried we will next see him starring in the creature feature of the week on the Scifi channel.

If I was managing him, I would much rather he starred in a small but respectable play in a nice market like Dallas again than making this film. I am sure the money is not quite as good, but hopefully the resume would look a bit stronger.

Yes! A Few Good Men was fabulous and Jensen knocked it out of the park, big time, with that play. I honestly preferred his turn as Kaffee to Tom Cruise's!

I wish it wasn't a horror film, too, only because that's the one type of movie genre that I just don't care for. :-(

I hate to think they are getting pigeon holed.

I think I'm more worried for Jared than Jensen, with the horror thing - but they're both SO much more talented than to be in films that are nothing more than blood and guts splashed across the screen.

Well, to be fair, Jared has a lot of diversity in his resume:
Gilmore Girls - dramedy
New York Minute - comedy
Flight of the Phoenix- action-adventure, drama
Cry Wolf - horror/suspense
House of Wax - horror
Also, the TV Movies he did were all either drama or family drama - Ring of Endless Light, A Little Inside, Close to Home. Plus he did that Young MacGyver pilot, which was adventure.
Christmas Cottage (or Home for Christmas) - family drama
So, really, neither one of them has done horror exclusively. It's just because they are now doing SPN that people assume they have done it a lot.

And no one's really saying that they have, it's just what keeps popping up again and again recently, and since we've seen them for three years now in the horror/suspense genre on SPN, I, for one, was hoping to see them in some kind of action/adventure flick instead.

ITA. And am worried for Jared as well. Mostly because he seems to really *like* the horror genre. From interviews and such, he just seems so darn proud of House of Wax. Being introduced to him through Gilmore Girls, I know he is capable of so much better. I just wonder who is managing these boys?!

Hey, Spook. Just got Season One of "Torchwood," so I have been spending A LOT of bunk time with Captain Jack...

Aw, jeez. 3D? Does that mean I have to wear two pairs of glasses? And Jaime King, another I-used-to-be-a-model-and-golly-now-I-get-to-be-an-actress?

Torchwood ROCKS!! I think season two has also been fantastic, especially with Jack/Ianto. :-)

Aw, jeez. 3D? Does that mean I have to wear two pairs of glasses?

This being in 3D is the ONLY redeeming thing so far, 'cause you know ANY part of Jensen that's in 3D will be breathtaking. ;-)

January release? That could be pretty good for him.

I'm not big on the film genre, but it's a big role for him, so I'm happy for Jensen. =)

I used to like slasher flicks when I was younger but not so much now. They seemed less scary back then.
Still, a new movie role for Jensen rocks. I hope we will all get to see it.

Probably any movie released into theatres is better than no movie at all, so I'm happy for both of the guys. I probably won't go to the movies to see either of them, but I'll definitely buy the DVDs.

Right, I mean work is work and I'm glad they're getting roles, too. Just because I won't watch horror doesn't mean I'm not happy for them. :-)
