Jared to star in Friday the 13th remake
Mar. 21st, 2008 05:37 amFrom the Hollywood Reporter:
Jared Padalecki is in final negotiations to star in the remake of "Friday the 13th" that Platinum Dunes is producing for New Line and Paramount.
Marcus Nispel is directing from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.
Paramount released the original "Friday" in 1980, introducing horror icon Jason with a brief appearance. The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake.
Cale Boyter and Guy Stodel are overseeing for New Line. A release is planned for -- what else? -- Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.
Padalecki stars as Sam Winchester on the CW's "Supernatural," and his film credits include "House of Wax" and "Cry Wolf." He next appears as Thomas Kinkade alongside Peter O'Toole and Marcia Gay Harden in Lionsgate's "Home for the Holidays," slated for a December release and based on the life of the artist and his painting "The Christmas Cottage."
Padalecki is represented by Artistry Management, CAA and attorney Michael Fuller.

Oh, Jared, why must you constantly be in movies that I have no interest in watching?? Argh! But I'm thrilled for him, getting a lead part like this!

Date: 2008-03-21 11:15 am (UTC)I agree! I do not like horror movies. I like suspense movies which are kinda like horror movies but without the excessive blood, guts, violence, and most of the time have (more) plot.
ETA: I'm glad he's getting work, just wish is was different work, LOL!

Date: 2008-03-21 01:41 pm (UTC)I'm right there with you. I just don't care for blood and guts constantly splattered across the screen. Blech.
I'm thrilled for Jared, though, getting in on the Friday the 13th franchise, which I know has a huge fanbase. He's a great actor and I'm glad he's out there doing movies.
Let's just hope his character survives to the end of the film! LOL!

Date: 2008-03-21 01:52 pm (UTC)LOL! No kidding. This is one film I'm not sure I could sit through even for Jared. "House of Wax" was bad enough. "Cry Wolf" wasn't as bad. I'd watch it over HoW any day.
Am I just missing the news or has Jensen not signed to do anything during hiatus?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 03:22 pm (UTC)I know I won't be able to, unfortunately. [shudder] And he'll probably end up killed, anyway!
I haven't seen either HoW or Cry Wolf, but a friend just gave me Cry Wolf and I'll be watching it this weekend.
Am I just missing the news or has Jensen not signed to do anything during hiatus?
Nope, it's been totally silent on his end, which is a total bummer! I want him in a movie, too! One that actually makes it to the theater, unlike poor Ten Inch Hero, which I've not had the chance to see. :-(

Date: 2008-03-21 05:22 pm (UTC)See how much I love this guy? I watched that crappy Disney thingy for him once.
OMG, DISNEY? Think he'll trainwreck?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 05:55 pm (UTC)Ok, someone PLEASE tell me what this Disney thing is! You're the second one to mention it. Something with dolphins?? Is it Jared meets Flipper or something?? LOL!
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 06:19 pm (UTC)Or something like that.

Date: 2008-03-21 07:27 pm (UTC)(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 07:37 pm (UTC)So you're not doing the strike either?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 07:49 pm (UTC)You know, I honestly forgot. I saw the google alert this morning about Jared and went and posted, then it was a couple hours later someone on my flist posted that the strike be damned, she was posting today. And I was like, oh well, too late for me now!
So I'm hoping for a chocolate covered Jensen and Jared in my Easter basket. You? ;-)

Date: 2008-03-21 07:57 pm (UTC)For Easter, I expect...well nothing actually, I think it all got spent on my sister.
So I'll end up holing myself up in my cave (which is what I call my room) and have a Supernatural marathon.
Unless I can convince my dad to buy me lots of Supernatural merchandise.
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-24 12:33 am (UTC)Ok, I gotta ask. Are you the oldest? I am, and in my family that meant that the youngest got everything.
Unless I can convince my dad to buy me lots of Supernatural merchandise
So...were Sam and Dean in your Easter basket?? :-)
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-24 12:48 am (UTC)What I want always comes second whenever she decides she wants something, and then she declares me the favorite when she doesn't get her way.
No Sam and Dean weren't in my Easter basket, I got shafted...again.
Should have known, same thing happened on Christmas.

Date: 2008-03-26 02:08 am (UTC)Ah, ha! I knew it. Man, what's with the whole "the baby of the family gets everything" routine? I swear, my sister got away with murder when we were growing up, while my parents were Mr. and Mrs. Strict with me. :-(
and then she declares me the favorite when she doesn't get her way
OMG! Yes! I've been through that exact same thing.
No Sam and Dean weren't in my Easter basket, I got shafted...again.
Rats! Well, I'm glad the J2 kissy bunnies I sent you made up for it. :-)

Date: 2008-03-26 02:12 am (UTC)And that's it.
I'm going to my dad and I am getting SPN merchandise god damn it.
In fact, that's what I'll be doing after this comment.
I remember one time, me and my sister got to do an activity together, and we could choose, because both had discounts for second children.
I wanted to do hockey, she wanted dancing and just bitched until I caved to make her stop.
*posts and goes off to beg*

Date: 2008-03-28 01:40 am (UTC)A locket, eh? Hmmm...can you put a pic of Sam and Dean in there? :-)
I'm going to my dad and I am getting SPN merchandise god damn it.
You go, girl! So...what are you getting??

Date: 2008-03-28 07:13 pm (UTC)Yeah he's been pretty cool about my fandom stuff, doesn't know what my ship is because he'd probably flip.
Do you think Jared and Sandy are engaged/married?

Date: 2008-03-21 03:34 pm (UTC)Although I do admit to having seen his Disney CHannel movie with Mischa Barton and dolphins…
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 05:58 pm (UTC)He needs to do a romantic comedy! We'd be falling over ourselves. Or at least I would. :-) Or a James Bond-ish action flick!
I haven't seen any of his movies, either, but I ended up with the Cry Wolf dvd the other day that I'll be watching this weekend.
Ok, what in the world is this Disney thing?? Dolphins?? LOL! Do tell!
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-21 10:11 pm (UTC)So the Disney Movie. It's based on the book A Ring Of Endless Light by Madeleine L'Engle. (I think I spelled that correctly.) And it's largely about dolphins. (I know the movie had virtually nothing in common with the book except character names and dolphins.)
Anyway, in the book, his character is the troubled, rich, brooding, depressed, gorgeous, bad boy, but in the film he's a rich, preppy puppy.
And Mischa Barton is the main character, which should automatically tell you the quality of acting.
And it was a Disney Channel movie circa Season 4 Gilmore Girls I think. http://imdb.com/title/tt0282123/
It never comes on tv though, and it really should, because it is a movie that we would all watch, even if we end up in hysterics over the story and script.

Date: 2008-03-22 02:11 am (UTC)Hmm. I wonder where that tape might have gone... I might have to look for it! It's probably in the same box with the old Days of Our Lives tapes I was recording back for a different storyline when Jensen played Eric...

Date: 2008-03-22 03:03 am (UTC)If you have it, I would love to see if we could get it onto a dvd or upload it for everyone else to see it!
=D
But I'm glad someone else knows about it!

Date: 2008-03-25 02:08 am (UTC)Oh wow, you should totally see if you can find it! I know I'd pay you for a copy of it to see baby!Jared frolicking with dolphins. :-)
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-25 02:02 am (UTC)LOL! Damn straight we would!
Thanks for all the info on the dolphin movie. :-) Though don't you hate it when the movie has nothing to do with the book?? I mean, if you were such a fan of the book that you wanted to make a movie out of it, why change the whole thing?? That's never made sense to me.
Man, I wish I could see this thing, though, just to see baby!Jared with dolphins!
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-25 04:13 am (UTC)I really do want to see it again though, just to see what it was like, since I have blocked a large part of it from my memory.
I don't even think he gets the girl, if it followed the book in that one respect…
But yes. Jared. *grabby hands* Does a version of his failed pilot for Close to Home exist? Because I've been seeing the Legacy pics, and I really want to see it!
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-26 02:03 pm (UTC)Same here. I honestly didn't even know who he was until SPN and I only knew Jensen from watching Smallville.
I don't even think he gets the girl, if it followed the book in that one respect
What? Aww, man, who wouldn't want Jared??
Does a version of his failed pilot for Close to Home exist? Because I've been seeing the Legacy pics, and I really want to see it!
I don't know! I didn't even know about the pilot until seeing the pics on Legacy, too. And he looks SO CUTE that I'd love to see it as well. :-)

Date: 2008-03-22 12:38 am (UTC)It's not for me to second guess why Jared would go for a project like this, maybe he needs something fast that will pay well in case he has to sell his house in Vancouver quickly and relocate to LA. But a remake of a horror film, by the same team who made the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and the The Hitcher remake, neither of which did well critically or commercially, seems like a really bad move.
I know he still has the same guy who met him at the after-party of the Teen Choice awards and gave him a chance as his agent, and I really commend his loyalty, but I am pretty sure that agents are in a hierarchy and the more expensive ones represent the bigger stars, which in turn gives them more weight and they are called by the casting directors of the better movies or the better directors. So that's why I think a change in representation might be good for his career. He's not a huge star yet, I realize that, but he'd be better off doing a quirky little independent (like Ten Inch Hero) than something like this.
So, in short, I'm kinda disappointed about it. I just think he's better than this.
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-25 02:07 am (UTC)Scary as it sounds, I'm honestly hoping he blows Kinkade out of the water, so people can see he CAN do other types of roles.
I'm disappointed in this, too. I so want to see him in a great action flick or a romantic comedy - not getting hacked to bits. Again.
(no subject)
Date: 2008-03-28 06:32 am (UTC)Anyway, all this is pure speculation, since none of us know what's really going on between him, his agent, and Hollywood producers. Maybe some day, I'll be able to give you the inside scoop. :)

Date: 2008-03-28 03:29 pm (UTC)Right, I'm sure that's exactly what he's getting offered, but if he keeps taking them he's gonna pigeon-hole himself and no one will ever see him as more than a teenage horror flick actor. And he'll never get any other kind of scripts, which would be terrible!
I, too, hope that he does really, really well in the Kinkade movie so that will open the door for him for bigger and better roles.
Maybe some day, I'll be able to give you the inside scoop.
I'll hold you to that! :-)

Date: 2008-03-29 06:53 am (UTC)I agree, but at the same time, he's gotta work, keep putting himself out there. At least this one, he'll be a lead character, so that's good news for his resume and bargaining power.
Maybe someone should ask him that at a Con - are you continuing to work in horror because that's your preference or that's what's on the table? Anyone here going to be seeing him soon?

Is Paris Hilton in it?
Date: 2008-03-22 01:55 am (UTC)Re: Is Paris Hilton in it?
Date: 2008-03-25 02:11 am (UTC)And that's one reason why I'll never watch that one!
I don't mind gore, but for Lord's sake, I want a script to go with it.
Umm...does that actually ever happen in a slasher flick??
characterization went down the toilet and people got killed off that you couldn't give a crap about.
That's another reason I don't like horror movies - one dead person after another. Just..what's the point?
and CW was tons better than "Devour;" at least I didn't go WTF? at the end of CW.
LOL! Yes! Having just watched CW for the first time over the weekend I was damn impressed with the ending! Not so much for Devour...
