Sera's interview - some thoughts

agt_spookyI've been thinking about something Sera said in her latest interview and I thought I'd share.
And if you're aware of how I feel toward both Ruby and Bela...yeah, you know where this is going.
So I've been thinking about what Sera said in her latest interview, that Dean's deal will be wrapped up in the last four episodes (well, three, really since the next one back, 3x12, is about those Hell House guys) and Dean's last day takes place on the season finale.
At first I was surprised to hear that, figuring that with the shortened season, they'd just continue with the "deal" plot line till maybe mid-way through season four. Which I didn't want. I wanted this to be wrapped up this season. And why? That can be summed up in three words:
Ruby and Bela.
Useless characters if there ever was. And don't give me that crap that I only hate them because they're women. I would hate them equally if they were men, and I've stated that since before season three even got started. No, I hate them because they serve no purpose, especially Bela. They've been shoehorned into every episode they've appeared in and the instant they appear, the Winchester brother's I.Q. drops at least 50 points, so that the girls can rush in and save the day or rush in and steal something, making Sam and Dean look like incompetent idiots.
And I've had enough.
The way I see, it there is NO reason to have either girls in season four. And again, especially Bela. I mean, the hate for that character is pretty darn clear, especially going by the comments left to Sera's interview. We don't love to hate her, Sera, we just despise her. You've had your little experiment with her and now she needs to leave. Forever. Preferably via the way of some gruesome death that you're so fond of writing this year. Seriously, there is NO need for her to ever appear on this show again, after the boys have gotten the Colt back from her and probably used it to kill the demon that holds Dean's contract.
And then there's Ruby. Sorry, honey, but you suck as an actress. Niki Aycox showed us how a demon should be portrayed and she runs rings around you. But as for the character herself - again, I see no point in having Ruby around for season four. Why? Because she can't help Dean out of his deal and has told him as much. She's simply there, waiting for Dean to die so she can take his place and ride around with Sam. Ok, raise your hand if you think Dean is really going to die. [looks around] Yeah, thought so. So what the hell do we need her for once Dean gets out of his deal?? Because I'm sorry, but Sam should just shoot her on sight for lying to him about being able to help Dean - the only reason why Sam hasn't killed her already.
I'm sure the demon war is going to continue on into season four, but they don't need Ruby around because she can't be trusted! And Dean will still be alive so Sam doesn't need a new "partner". What purpose will she serve? Just to keep popping up and spewing her holier than thou wisdom, telling the boys that they're constantly wrong and they have to do what SHE says?? I am sick to DEATH of that, of making the boys look stupid.
I can't make this any more clear - I WANT MY SHOW BACK. These girls have ruined 90% of the episodes for me and I'm sick of it. I want season one and two Sam and Dean back - smart, capable, tough, strong and emotionally vulnerable - doing their job by themselves with occasional help from Bobby or Ellen, characters that this fandom LIKES. And there are plenty of them out there, so jettison the useless RuBela and get this show back on track, because the ratings speak louder than words - season three has tanked compared to seasons one and two.
Our highest rated episode this year so far got 3.24 million - compared to season one's ratings, that puts it dead last, as the lowest for season one was 3.26 million. Then there's season two - our 3.24 million would put it at number 13 out of 21 eps. in comparison. Wow, that's really burning up the charts, isn't it?
PLEASE, Eric, I'm begging you to fix this show before you lose anymore of your audience and SPN goes out with people not even caring anymore, instead of on a high note, years from now, with all of us proud of what you created.

These girls do nothing for the plot except make Sam and Dean look stupid and uncapable. Dean has no reason not to really shot Bella the second they get the colt back. As much as I'm "okay" with Ruby right now, I think she's served her purpose and doesn't even need to come back. And don't get me started on the degrees of acting that Katie has.

- Ruby is of no use to the show once the issue of Dean's deal is resolved.
- They really WILL lose more of their audience if they don't address these issues.

She can go in the blaze of glory when it's all over, cause she has a soul still, kinda, as she said in the next-to-last episode, and I can see a kinda sad, perhaps sacrificing end for her. As it would be for anyone who would have had that role.
Bela on the other hand was completely forced on Kripke. (Well they were both forced as WOMEN, but as I said, Ruby's character would have existed in some form anyway.) But Bela... so far has no purpose. Will she or won't she have a hand in Dean's last day... I don't know. But what worries me is that they are trying to force a backstory for her. You edit them out so I don't know if you know, but there was a mention of how she's misunderstood for killing a family member, and now with the colt when Dean asked if she was gonna sell it, she said "You really don't know me at all" like there's this deep earthshattering reason why she took it. And that worries me because, if she was just a seasonal meanie, like Gordon was, we'd have no backstory. She's crazy, kill, destroy, move along. I feel like they're trying to set us up to meet the true her, and man I don't wanna meet her :(
And I didn't even mind her character untill she got my baby thrown into prison :(

Ruby - yeah, there probably would've been some sort of that kind of character no matter what, for this season, and that would've been ok with me...but Katie just can not pull it off and Ruby always acting so high and mighty just rubs me the wrong way, big time.
Bela - yeah, please, I do NOT care about her or her backstory. The character is so despicable I can't stand it. And Kripke said that both of the girls were supposed to be adversaries, but Ruby appears to be on Sam's side and now we're gonna make Bela sympathetic? Does Eric even know what's going on with his own show anymore?? [sigh]

As Bela was dumped on Kripke by the heads of CW, there's a tiny chance he's doing this on purpose. Like - see, we tried, they hate her, lemme kill her now. Yes, that's true. Eric said in an interview that Bela was originally conceived as a one-off, but when Dawn found out Eric was going to add Ruby, she said "add TWO females" and that's how we got stuck with Bela.
Like - see, we tried, they hate her, lemme kill her now.
You know, I've thought that myself as well and I hope to god we're right!

(And I'm a little old to draw the attention of either of the Winchesters--even if they were real. Which they're not. I live in the real world, thankyouverymuch.)
Anyway, I really, really hope you're right Barb. It would make sense to get rid of them both, and start fresh with season 4. If they want to bring in new characters, fine. As long as they're well-rounded, and have a purpose, as well as a function in the Supernatural universe, and are portrayed by people with as much talent as the supporting character we've loved--Ellen, Bobby, John, Henrickson--I'll give them a chance.

Yes, exactly! I don't want Sam and Dean existing in a vacuum, that would be totally unrealistic. I just want GOOD characters with substance, be them male or female.

Hmmm...besides the fact that Katie's acting ability is horrid and Lauren's accent is even worse...?
But those are the actresses - let me see if I can sum up about their characters instead...
Ruby - she makes the boys look stupid. That's my main complaint with her. Every time she shows up she runs in and saves the day, making the boys look like incompetent idiots. She's like a Mary Sue - not only does she save the day, but she's got a special weapon (the demon killing knife) and can fix broken weapons (the Colt - without ever explaining HOW) and she is always right. She spews out her "wisdom", chastizing the boys like they're children, acting all bad ass. Sorry, honey, but MEG was bad ass. You're just a pale imitation. So yeah, for the first two years Sam and Dean could take care of themselves, save each other's lives and take care of business. Now they constantly need saving and I'm sick of it. Ruby needs to GO at the end of this season, killed somehow, someway. Preferably in a gruesome way. ;-)
Bela - she makes the boys look stupid (are you sensing a theme here?). I mean, she has pickpocketed Dean how many times? That's just ridiculous. Dean's a master at the con game himself and no way would that happen to him multiple times. She makes the boys look like fools - waltzing in and stealing from them right under their noses time and time again. They become bumbling idiots when she's around, all so the writers can make her look good, when she's anything but. She's a useless character, shoehorned in for NO reason, adding nothing to the plot of every episode she's in. And let's not forget the fact that she shot Sam and sent Gordon after them to kill them! Yeah, this is the type of character we need hanging around for multiple seasons. Not. Again, she just needs to GO. She's completely detestable and there's no reason for the boys to interact with her ever again after this season (after they get the Colt back from her).
So there you have it! :-)

Yeah, tell me about it. I really was surprised to hear that they were going to end that plot line so quickly, what with the shortened eps this year. But then I got excited, hoping that it meant the END to the horrid disease, RuBela, that has stricken our fandom.
And now I want an icon that says Supernatural makes Alli a He-Man Woman Hater.
Oooh, never say that to a graphic artist who happens to feel the same way!
