I saw my first ever episode of Gilmore Girls yesterday. I was randomly flipping channels and the blurb mentioned "Dean" so I decided to watch.

Turns out it was the episode where Dean gets married (Chicken or Beef?), and I so had to laugh when Jared bursts into Luke's restaurant, singing what I believe was the Stars Hollow High School fight song. :-) He was a very cute drunk. :-)

Since this was the first ep I saw, I was curious when drunk Dean starts mumbling about Rory, saying "why didn't she love me?". It was so sad! So I take it that Rory broke up with Dean? If so, why was she upset seeing him come out of the church after the wedding?

I was thinking I was going to be disappointed, wasn't going to get to see Jared in a tux when Rory decided not to go to the wedding, but we did get a quick shot of him there at the very end. :-)

I figured that with Dean having gotten married and all, this would've been Jared's last ep of GG, but when I looked on imdb he's listed in 14 more! I guess he doesn't move away from Stars Hollow after his wedding?

While Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel annoy the crap out of me, I think I'll see when Jared's next eps are airing, just 'cause I wanna see young Jared again. Boy, has he grown some impressive muscles since then or what? LOL!

The Dean/Rory breakup was pretty messy--she was holding onto him while being more interested in another guy, and he finally got fed up and broke up with her. So, they were both unhappy about it. And yeah, he sticks around after the wedding and some more stuff happens with him and Rory. Really, I enjoy the show, but it's too bad what they did with his character. In the first season, he was depicted as smart, but then they brought in the Jess character and dumbed down Dean in order to make him more of a foil for Jess.

And physically, yeah. He went through a huge transformation from his first season on that show (skinny boy) to his last (filling out, just pre-SPN). It's pretty funny to see the wee version of Sam's bitchface on his teenage self in S1.

Hey, thanks so much for all the info! It figures I'd come into the show right toward the tail end when things go south for Jared's character. Hmph.

I've heard good things about S1, though, so I think I'll just wait until Family Channel starts showing that. :-)

Hehe, Gilmore Girls! I haven't seen that in so long. I was a big fan of the earlier seasons, but it went downhill at the end. I gave up and didn't even see the last couple seasons.

Jared is so great in it, though! He is so adorable as Rory's boyfriend...her first ever boyfriend, of course. :) And they're all perfect and cute together, until one night he has the huge special date planned and he tells Rory that he loves her. She was caught off guard by it and wasn't ready to say it herself, and Dean totally freaked out and broke up with her and made a big mess.

I can't remember if they got back together after that, but I think they probably did. I'm pretty sure it was Jess (played by Milo Ventimiglia) that really broke them up...semi-permanently. o_O Dean could have been referring to that date way back when she didn't say "I love you" in return, or he could have been referring to her sort of choosing Jess over him later.

If you want to see Jared in GG, watch the earlier seasons! After he gets married, he and Rory...well. I don't like them so much anymore. Essentially the writers don't know what to do with his character after that so lots of stupid stuff happens that neither of them would ever, ever do. :P

Hey, thanks for the info, sweetie! Everyone who responded said the same thing as you - Jared's great in the early seasons, but they just kill his character after the wedding. So I think I'll just wait till Family Channel starts running season 1 to see the good things about Dean. :-)

*Guh* Jared was to die for in that episode. He'd finally grown up, grew his hair long...had starting working on his puppy dog eyes. My second-favorite episode to this one was Raincoats and Recipes, infamous for its *GASP* "Rory has sex!" scene.

That diner scene was hilarious...and sad. He'd actually broken up with Rory (again) and was about to marry his short-time girlfriend (which was a slap in Rory's face in one of the previous episodes when she found out they were engaged). He and Rory do get back together eventually (R&R)...despite his wife. Jared's last episode was the one about the town museum, and he walks out on a really sour note after arguing with Luke about how the Gilmore girls string guys along. It was downright depressing, and it really ticked me off that that was it for his character.

He got mentioned once or twice more but was never seen again. It made me wonder if he'd had some trouble with TPB on the show or if they really felt that was a good end to his story arc. *sigh* ...But, good Lord, he was hot in some of those later episodes. He did go through one more awkward period of short hair, but it came back in time. *g*

I LOVED Baby!Jared in Gilmore Girls!

Let me see if I can give you a short history of Dean Forester

He comes to Stars Hollow, falls in love with Rory Gilmore (pilot) He flirts with her, but she is too nervous or awkward to respond (Cinnamon's Wake) Rory hasn't told her mother about having her first boyfriend, so he isn't at either of her birthday parties, but he meets her secretly after wards and gives her a bracelet he made himself (she wears it in every episode until I mention it again)(Rory's Birthday Parties) Dean gives Rory her first kiss, Lorelai invites them to their house to watch Willy Wonka and gives him 'the talk' then he talks. (Kiss and Tell) He reads Jane Austen because Rory asked him to, and likes it. He tells her she has to read Hunter Thompson (Love, War and Snow) She invites him to her first dance, which is his as well since he's never wanted to go to a dance before. There he punches out Tristin DuGrey who thinks the way to let a girl know you like her is to irritate her and pretend you hate her. They leave the dance and officially becaome 'girlfriend' and 'boyfriend'. They go into the dance studio to look around, sit down to read and fall asleep. They are awakened the next morning and Rory Freaks out and Lorelai freaks out even more and suspects that they had sex. (Rory's Dance - OMG he is SO cute in this one)He taps at Rory's window, since she has told him to stay away from her house and her mother, but Rory is not home and Loreali 'answers' the window. He convinces her that noithing happed. They make up.(Forgiveness and Stuff) He agrees to set Rory's friend Lane up with his friend Todd (Double Date) He brings pizza for 'movie night' and Rory and Lorelai are watching Donna Reed There is an argumentwhich I can see his side of and then Rory pretends to be Donna Reed (That Damn Donna Reed - this one never made sense to me)For their 3 month anniversary Dean takes Rory to a fancy restaurant, and then to a salvage yard where he reveals that he is building her a car. He tells her he loves her. She freaks and can't say she loves him. They break-up (Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers)Everyone in town knows that they've broken up, but not why, because Rory somehow neglected to explain, so they all blame Dean (The Break-Up)Dean isn't in the next one but Rory kisses Tristin DuGrey the day after they break-up (The Break-up pt 2) 3 episodes later, Lorelai finally finds out from Dean why they broke-up.(P.S. I Lo...) Dean goes to Rory's school and she finally says she loves him (Love Daisies and Troubadours)(end of Season 1)

Rory invites Dean to dinner at her grandparent's house and her grandfather insults and mocks him and tells Rory he's not good enough for her (Sadie, Sadie) Rory has to do more activities so her aplication to Harvard will lok good and she doesn't have time for Dean. they get into an argument (which I think he has a valid point in) but he apologizes later (Hammers and Veils) Jess Mariano comes to town and Rory is attracted to him. he takes an instant dislike to Dean (Nick and Nora, Sid and Nancy) Dean takes Rory to her Debutante Ball (Presenting Lorelai Gilmore -Baby!Jared in tails and white gloves!)Rory and Tristin are cast as Romeo and Juliet. Deam attends a rehearsal where Tristin keeps dropping hints about their kiss, because Rory has asked him not to say anything (Run Away Little Boy) Dean sees Jess in a fight at school and tries to break it up, Jess tries to punch Dean. Later Rory and Jess are together and Jess insinuates that Dean and Rory have nothing in common, they dodn't read the same books or listen to the same cool music (The Bracebridge Dinner - this begins the dumbing down of Dean)Dean has finished the car and takes it to Rory. Her grandfather insists that is can't be safe because Dean built it. Dean challenges him to take it to a mechanic, they go and the mechanic pronounces it safe (Richard in Stars Hollow) There is a basket auction, the girls make the lunches in the baskets, the guys bid on them. Jess outbids Dean for Rory's basket and Rory agrees to have lunch with him. Her bracelt from Dean falls off and Jess pockets it (A-tisket, A-tasket)Dean points out that Rory isn't wearing her bracelet and she thinks she's lost it ands looks everywhere. Lorelai sees Jess putting it under her bed. (Lost and Found)Lorelai is gone for the evening but Rory doesn't want Dean over because she wants a night alone. Jess comes over with food. Dean calls and says he just wants to see her for a minute and finds Jess there with a school friend of Rory's. The friend says she has a crush on Jess and asked Rory to set them up, Rory goes along with the lie. Dean knows Rory is lying to him (There's the Rub)Dean tries to see Rory more, but overdoes it. Lorelai finds him washing Rory's car and tells him he should back off. He doesn't call her or see her for two days, then when he does page her, she doesn't call him back because she is going to hang out with her friend and they are going to Luke's where Jess works and lives. When Lorelai gets home Dean is sitting on her steps and says "She likes Jess, doesn't she?" (Back in the saddle)While Dean is away, Rory lets Jess drive her car, he takes his hands off the wheel, and they crash and total the car. Rory breaks her wrist. Jess takes her to the hospital then leaves without saying goodbye. (Teach Me Tonight) Dean returns and Rory gives him a ltter explaining everythng that happened. He forgives her and invites her in for dinner. He doesn't even ask about the car. (Help Wanted) Rory skips school to go to New York and spend the day with Jess (Lorelai's Graduation Day) Dean and Rory go to a wedding, Jess returns to Stars Hollow and shows up on the grounds where the wedding is being held. Rory kisses him. (end season 2)

I know, this isn't short! *LOL*

Rory is gone all summer in Wahsington, Dean writes her several letters but she struggles to write a letter to Jess. When she returns home she has a hissy fit when she sees Jess with another girl and Lorelai tells her she has to decide between Jess and Dean because she is treating Dean like dirt. Rory decides to stick with Dean.(Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer)Rory has a jealous freak out on Jess (Haunted Leg) Rory is completeing her application for Harvard. dean asks if they'll break up when she goes? She says no.(Application Anxiety) Jess buys a car. Rory still has no car, and he has given her no restitution for totalling the car Dean built for her. Neither Rory nor Jess have a problem with this. (Take the Deviled Eggs) At a dance Marathon, Rory is there with Dean but cannot take her eyes or her mind off of Jess. Finally Dean breaks up with her. (They Shoot Gilmores Don't they?)Loreali tells Dean that they are still friends (Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving)Rory and Dean agree to be friends, which makes Jess jealous. (That'll Do Pig)(I think Jared might have gotten a Pilot at this time which didn't go(Young MacGuyver?) and then he was asked back to the show)Dean gets a new girlfriend and Rory is a bit jealous. She doesn't like the way Jess never makes plans with her and misses how Dean always did (Face-Off Baby!Jared playing hockey!)Dean's girlfriend Lindsay is jealous of Rory (Tale of Poes and Fire) Rory and jess and Dean and Lindsay are at a party. jess ir bored and wants to leave. Rory wants to stay. Later she find Jess in an upstairs bedroom and he makes a serious move on her, which upsets her. Dean sees her crying and he and Jess fight.(Keg!Max) Dean tells Rory he asked Lindsay to marry him because she makes him happy and after she dumped him for Jess he thought he'd never be happy again. (Say Goodnight Gracie) The next ep is aset up for asin-off series with Jess which never materialized(Here Comes The Son)end season 3

Almost done, I swear!

Oh I forgot, In the set-up for the spin off Jess once again leaves without telling Rory goodbye. He keeps calling her and not saying anything. She finally tells him that she's done with him. Rory comes home from college on the weekend of Dean's wedding. Dean gets drunk at his bachelor party and reveals that he still loves Rory. Luke puts him to bed at his place but the next morning doesn't say anything (like maybe don't marry lindsay if you still love rory)instead he just tells Rory not to go to the wedding. I think Rory regrets jerking Dean around for Jess when Jess just ended up leaving her.(Chicken or Beef)(I think here Jared was auditionisng for the Pilot "Close To Home" )ten episodes later a bulked up Dean is working construction at Lorelai's Inn. Rory has a meltdown on him.(The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais) All is not great with Dean's marriage. Dean sneaks out often after dinner, while Lindsay and her mother clean up, and they never notice. He is still fascinated by Rory{Scene in a Mall)Rory finds out that Dean has quit school to work more because Lindsay wants a townhouse. Lindsay doesn't work. Lindsay overhears Rory telling this to her friend and tells Dean not to talk to Rory anymore.(Tick Tick Tick Boom)Lindsay goes to the Inn where dean is working to yell at him because he is working extra hours when she wants to go out. (Luke Can See Her Face) Rory agrees to go out with some guys who get drunk, so she calls Dean to come and rescue her. He takes her back to her Dorm room. Jess shows up suddenly and she asks Dean to leave. Jess wants her to run away with him to New York, she says no. He leaves.(Last Week Fights, This Week Tights) Rory explains to Dean that she's not with Jess, they almost kiss. Later they are alone at her house and they sleep together. Lorelai comes home and freaks out because dean is still married(Raincoats and Recipes (end season four)

Back to the Dean and Rory in bed scene from R and R, After Lorelai comes home, Dean waits outside and listens to the fight. Rory calls Dean and they have sex in the Dance studio. Then Rory leaves to go to Europe with Her grandmother for seven weeks. She doesn't tell Dean(Say Goodbye To Daisy Miller09over the hiatus Jared filmed the pilot for Close to Home and had his hair cut short. When he got back he had to sit for 4 hours while they put extensions in so that he would match the last episode. BUT look closely, in R and R he has a scruffy little beard, in Daisy Miller, when they're in bed, after they've had sex, it was so good all Dean's facial hair fell out!)Though she hasn't contacted him in 7 weeks, Rory suddenly decides, the day before she returns, to send Dean a letter saying that he has to figure out his marriage before she'll have a relationship with him. Lindsay find the letter and throws Dean out in a very loud public fight. Dean has to move back in with his parents. Rory goes to see him and he is upset with her for leaving without a word and with himself for falling for Rory again.(A Messenger Nothing More - I LOVE his short hair here! Also, I think either he didn't have time to work out, or he grew because he's really thin again)) I believe it is supposed to be several weeks later, Rory is asked if she has a boyfriend. She doesn't know, she goes to dean's house and he lets her in(Written In The Stars) Dean and Rory try to find time together but Dean is still sharing his car with Lindsay and also living with his parents, Rory shares an apartment at Yale. Dean gets upset, and later apologizes. Rory asks if he would have broken up with Lindsay if she hadn't found the letter, He says yes.(Tippicanoe and Taylor Too) Rory and Dean and Luke and Lorelai go on a double date. Luke is condescending to Dean because he thinks Dean isn't good enough for Rory. (We got us a Pippi Virgin) Rory's grandparents find out she is back with Dean. they decide to try to get Rory to date someone from her own class. Dean and Rory are still having problems finding time for each other. They meet on a 15 minute break at the store where Dean works and he can't even buy her a decent meal. She has to go to a party at her grandparents, and she asks Dean to meet her and she will go to a movie with him. Grandparents have invited all of their friends and their eligible blueblood sons in tuxes. They dress Rory in a tiara and diamond necklace. Rory is bored and goes to the Pool house with a really obnoxious guy she met at Yale (He was insulting and patronizing a guy she was with who bartended for him once) and his friends. She gets vaguely drunk. She is 15 minuteds late meeting Deat, and he sees all the guys she was with. He says "I don't belong here, not anymore, do I?" Rory doesn't argue with him. he tells her she looks good and he drives away. Of course she ends up dating the obnoxious rich guy.(The Party's Over) Ten episodes later, Dean is the carpenter on a project to build a diaorama. He is cold to Luke. Luke can't stand it anymore and confronts him. Dean tells Luke to go back to his girlfriend (Lorelai) while he still has one. Luke asks what that means and Dean says that they (The Gilmore Girls) want more than this (small town life) and this is all you are. "You and me, same thing". That's Dean's last appeareance. Funnily enough, Lorelai and Luke DO break up, just like Dean said.

I think Dean was totally shafted. He was a great guy and Rory kept screwing him over. For some reason much of the GG fandom loves Jess and hates Dean. They also love Tristin and Logan (obnoxious guy). I don't get it, myself. I have seasons 1-3 on Dvd I still need to get 4 and 5 someday.

The reason GG fandom doesn't like Dean is precisely for what the writers did to him. I'm sure there was a way for all these things to happen without making him look like he was somehow inferior to Rory or ... damn you dictionary - stupider. Not to mention that even though he broke up with her, and she was mind-cheating on him anyway, the fandom still thinks of him as the clingy one. Which honestly took some god awful (awesome?) writing to pull off, just to make holy Rory stay holy. And hey, I actually like the chick, and the banter. But what they did to his character is unforgivable. Borders on misandry.

Holy COW, girl! You did NOT need to write all that up for me! But thank you!!

Wow, that's pretty shitty what they did to Dean. He sounded so cute and innocent and Rory just raked him over the coals and turned him all bitter and cynical. So sad!

I don't think I'm going to watch anymore eps after the wedding. Sounds too depressing for Dean. It'll be awhile before Family Channel starts GG over from the beginning, but I'm going to wait and see wee!cute Jared from season 1. :-)

You should at least watch A Messenger Nothing More for the cute short hair! I love his short hair! I know I've posted this for you before, but -

Look! Sammy has ears!

Sorry about all the detail, it's hard for me to condense Dean F's story because to me, it's really important to show how great he was, contrasted by the fact that Rory was almost always attracted to some other boy! I only started watching GG to see Baby!Jared, and then I got all involved in Dean F.!

I personally thought Dean F. had the best chemistry with Lorelai, not Rory. There's a very small part of the fandom that has written the two of them together and it so works for me!

After you've seen some Dean F., if you like him as a character, you should check out [livejournal.com profile] deanfest_2007 for fanfic. Don't be fooled by the 2007, it's still being posted to from time to time.

And finally, I didn't even realize I was posting from this account! I could have been using my GG Jared user pics! *LOL*

I've had this open a bit, and didn't manage to get back to it until now...

I've been borrowing the GG episodes in order from the library, just to watch Baby Jared. (Oh, I have it bad!) Anyway, I've been enjoying the show--mostly for Dean, Luke, and Lane, but hey. I also like Emily and Lorelai, Sukey and Jackson, and most of the characters in town.

I have to say that after the first season, I pretty much hate Rory. She's one of THOSE girls...the ones who look cute and have everything handed to them, but who always think there's something better out there and who basically ignore, trample or humiliate the people around them in order to get that "something better"... and then are totally confused when people aren't happy with her because of that. (To be fair, her father Christopher is just like that too.)

Anyway, she was an idiot to give up Dean. Just wait until you see the episode where she lets her new boyfriend--who Dean hates--drive the car that Dean MADE for her, piece by piece. That right there would be bad enough, but then he crashes and totals it! And Rory never apologizes...or even seems to think twice about all the work he put into it. And her boyfriends after Dean are all obnoxious for a variety of reasons.

I really think that if Supernatural hadn't snatched Jared away, Rory would have ended up with Dean. I think that was always the goal for the end...to have Rory end up in a healthy relationship, unlike her mother.

Of course, I haven't seen past mid-season 5 yet, so I may change my mind. I'm pretty sure that Rory ends up with preppy prince Logan from what I remember hearing on the fan circuit, and I can't believe that anyone thinks that could ever work. (Although, I guess they could be her grandparents all over again...)

Dean Forrester is adorable though. What a cutie!

Hey, thanks for your thoughts on GG and Dean!

And you know, even though I've only seen that one episode, I had the exact same thoughts about Rory. Just really didn't like her. And then finding out how she treated Dean really makes me dislike her! But you think they'd have ended up together, eh? Interesting! But I'm kinda glad SPN came along for him instead. :-)

Dean Forrester is adorable though. What a cutie!

And that's why I think I'll catch a few more, just to see Baby!Jared! :-)
