Hey, does anyone know of a program that can take the audio off of a .mov file? I've got a Steve Carlson concert that I recorded at Creation Con that I love to watch, but I want to get the audio part off of it so I can burn it onto a CD to listen to in my car.

It would be great if the program worked on a Mac (where the video currently is) but I can work with a Windows program if need be.

Thanks!!

Ask PRZed and MorganDawn. They know this stuff.

I've used Quicktime for this. (I upgraded to Quicktime Pro, which is about 30 bucks.) You can just open the file and do an Export to Sound, choosing AIFF or Wave format.

Oh man, thank you!! I upgraded and it worked perfectly. I also liked that I could use the upgrade on my computer at home and at work, with just a single purchase of it.

I'm listening to my Steve Carlson concert right now through iTunes. :-)

If you download Free Download Manager, then load the video into the program. When it is there, right click on it and the menu will include Convert File, click on that, in the window choose MP3 and you should be able to then burn the converted file to a CD.

Hi,

That was a great concert and there are several of Steve's non-yet-released songs that I wish I could listen to again and again.

As for how to "rip" the audio from your .mov file so you can burn it to a CD? I've used a freeware program called Audacity to do this same thing to various types of media files. Since I'm a PC user, I'm not totally sure about its Mac compatibility, but I believe they do have an OS X version available for the Mac if you're interested. The program does take a little getting used to, and it can be slightly intimidating at first glance, but its really rather easy once you get the hang of it.

I know you don't know me from Eve, but I'm glad to help in any way I'm able.

If you haven't found it yet, here's the link for Audacity:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I've had reasonably good luck using it, mostly for editing sound files. It's got a bit of a higher learning curve than QT, but is still manageable.
