Supernatural - Question about Skin

I was watching Skin the other night and I've got a question. Now it made for great continuity with The Benders, when the police database said that Dean Winchester had died in St. Louis, but...why?

Why did Rebecca say that the body in her living room was Dean Winchester? She could easily have said she had no idea who it was. How would the police then find out it was Dean? Has he been fingerprinted in the past? Hmmm...I suppose they could do something with a photo of the face of the body and get Dean's DMV record?

I'm reading too much into this, aren't I? LOL! It's just a plot hole I should overlook, right? Or did I totally miss something??

I think because Rebecca told the police that Dean Winchester is the one who attacked her the first time. And since the dead body in her living room so closely resembled the police sketch, I think they went with that.

Of course, I'm wondering why she was walking home so soon after being viciously attacked so as to be caught by the shapeshifter yet again. That point bothers me more than anything else.

Oh man, even my husband picked up on that! LOL! I completely agree that sometimes you just have to let it wash over you. :-)

I thought it was a combination of things. When the boys get out of the sewers, they call the police because they know the shifter is at Rebecca's. The swat guys not only see him (not!Dean), but Rebecca isn't likely to believe the story about the shapeshifter, since that came from the person trying to torture her. At that point, she still believes it's actually Dean. Between her testimony and the SWAT guys descriptions...that's where the sketch that the guys see on the news came from (They see the APB out on Dean before Sam gets picked up by the police).

I would imagine that Dean actually does have some kind of police record (despite how many times he's slipped away before actually being booked) and since the prints matched, it was easier for Rebecca to continue to claim that Dean Winchester was who attacked her.

And what a great explanation! Thanks for that, I appreciate you pointing out that Rebecca truly thought it was the real Dean attacking her. That completely slipped my mind.

Gosh, guess I'm just gonna have to go back and watch it again. Oh, the torture! [snerk]
