Workin', workin'
Jul. 21st, 2010 06:37 amI have been SO incredibly busy lately. John and I have been working on several projects around the house:
• We finally broke down and got ourselves a Blu Ray DVD player and got it installed in the living room. What was the first thing I bought? Supernatural season one, of course! LOL! Now if I just had time to sit down and WATCH it, especially that new Devil's Roadmap feature, that would be nice!
• Our entire kitchen is white. White tile floor, white appliances, white cabinets, white walls. So we decided to paint one wall a terra cotta color, as a feature wall. The color turned out beautiful, but it was a pain to paint. It took three coats and John managed to get more paint on the ceiling and adjacent walls than anything. [shakes head]. So it took me two days of work to go back with a small brush and primer to clean everything up. Finished on Saturday and now everything looks really sharp.
• We've been having problems with our front door and screen door. The screen door doesn't close properly and the weatherstripping around the front door is completely shot. So we spent the weekend running around to every Lowes, Menards and Home Depot in the area trying to find a new bottom for the screen door (it's cracked, which is causing it to not close properly) and new weatherstripping. But guess what? The door is so old that they no longer make replacement parts for it. Just freaking great. Nice of my landlord to leave us with a piece of shit door. There's nothing we can do about the door bottom, but the guy at Menards sold us a different kind of weatherstripping that should work. We'll see. It's three different pieces, two of which we got installed yesterday, but the third needs to be sawed down to the correct door height, which John's going to do today.
• The heat here in Chicago this summer has been BRUTAL. The humidity is so high that it's like trying to breathe through water outside. And the temperatures themselves are ridiculous, up in the 90's for several weeks now and it'll hit 100 by Friday. The upper floor of the house, where the bedrooms and my office are, is so hot, even with the air conditioning running non-stop. John got up in the attic on Friday and realized that there's about zero insulation up there. So off we went to buy several rolls over the weekend. John started installing it this morning and he called to tell me he got two of the five rolls installed before he had to stop, the heat was just too much for him up there, even at 7 o'clock this morning. Hopefully he'll get the rest up this weekend.
• My office is in need of some straightening up and cleaning, especially the multiple CD holders that I have. They're all full and I've been putting new ones I've been making up on top of my computer center. It's a mess and the cats keep jumping up there and knocking everything over. So I sat down on Friday night and took every CD rack and went through every disc. I found dics in there I made back in 2003! LOL! Yeah, it was time to clean things up. :-) I ended up throwing away so many old discs that I didn't need anymore that I nearly broke the trash bag from the weight. :-) I also found about a dozen DVDs that I'd made on my printable DVDs that I never got around to actually printing on, so I got all those taken care of. In the end the office looks more organized, even if I've still got more to do.
I just feel that I've been running non-stop like a chicken with my head cut off lately and I'd really just like to stop and take a breath. [sigh]
