Here's another report, from [livejournal.com profile] duckyxdale on his visit to the SPN set. Full text behind the cut, since I'm unable to post a direct link because my posting client isn't cooperating with me:

I barely know where to begin talking about my weekend in Vancouver and my visit to the set of The CW’s kickass show SUPERNATURAL.

I know I need to send a huge thanks and shout out to Holly and Winson at Warner Bros. for once again hooking a brother up! Veronica Mars was an incredible experience last year and I’m so fortunate to have been invited back for another Blogger day, this time with my boys, Jensen and Jared.

To get the obvious fan stuff out of the way first, I will state for the record that JPad is a large man. He is a beautiful man, we all know this. He stands like 6′ 4″ and has shoulders as wide as I am tall. Who knew? Jensen has always been considered the small one but ladies and gents, he’s gotta be 6′ 1″ and that my friends, is nothing to shake a stick at (or throw out of bed).

What I need to confess though is that for all the time I’ve been a Jared fan, I’ve been missing out… I may have crossed over to the other side. The other Winchester.

I’m switching brothers… maybe. Jensen when he holds your hand and gazes into your eyes is WOW folks… WOW! It’s swoon worthy dream boat time. Birds chirped, our eyes met, and a record scratched when he diverted his attention to Rae standing next to me and said her name twice.

I’ve got a shovel and a .45 Rae, I doubt you’ll be missed!

Alright, now that I’ve just lost all credibility, I threatened to kill a friend, and lost any chance at convincing someone I might be straight so what the hell…

THE BOYS ARE HOT. You know it, I know it and they have to know it.

Now, can I move on?

Geeze, all this gushing…

I arrived in Vancouver on Thursday morning around 11am. When I made it through Customs (which seriously was the most lax customs ever because they didn’t ask anything, didn’t stamp anything, and didn’t even look at my passport) I went to the meeting point. I will first and foremost confess that I know nothing about Vancouver or its heritage. The city is big on its Native heritage and is full of history and art that reflects its culture. Beautiful sights and sculptures everywhere.

The first person I meet is Marjorie from TV with meevee - it was great to finally meet her as I’m a loyal meevee fan and member. Daniel from TheTVAddict was next . He sat down next to me for like 5 minutes, got up and left. I thought it had to be him but honestly, I’ve only seen pics of him with his dog. Unless that dog was sitting next to him, he could have been anyone from anywhere. Minutes later he comes back and asks if I’m who I am. It was funny. Soon Oscar from Buddy TV, Kevin from TVSquad, and Eric from IGN had joined us. We were all ready to go, all but one!

Not long after, everyone except my friend Rae had arrived. Seriously, an hour after her flight had landed there was no sign of our tvwhore. I went through this whole routine… she hasn’t called so maybe she lost her cell phone. She’s been detained by Canadian Mountees and can’t escape. Customs rejected her arrival and she’s been sent back. I watched tv monitors to see if someone from Florida had a bomb on a plane, these kind of things run through my head. I don’t know what to tell you. I can’t imagine why she was detained so long, I mean look at her shirt!

Finally she arrived and our Production Driver R.G. Miller swept us away to the set. R.G. was hysterical. At one point someone asked something about Canada and both he and Daniel answered because they were the two resident Canadians. I don’t remember what it was but basically it came down to R.G. asking who we should trust? Someone from Toronto or a Vancouver Teamster. I told him that I’ll always bet on the Teamster! R.G. rocked!

As we were waiting outside, a car pulled up carrying none other than Jensen Ackles himself. He jumped out and ran into the building. A quick glimpse of one of our boys!

Moments later, we entered the blank two toned blue building which houses the production offices, warehouses, and sound stages and we were introduced to Cyrus Yavneh (Line Producer). Cyrus’ office is full of digital print outs of test shots, make up tests, production designs, etc. It’s a cool office because everywhere you look there are fangs, clowns, bloody wounds, etc… the fun stuff.

As they are in their last week of production on Season 2, everyone is cleaning house and that only meant good things for me! Cyrus gave me a ton of shots. I got the extra fang test shots from the vampire episode. Some clown drawings/tests and some other gory things! Loved me some Cyrus. He was very entertaining and acted as our tour guide through the production office.

We went through the art department where they design the look and the ghouls for the show. It’s cool because the hallways are lined with all the funky retro motel walls that are signature to the show’s aesthetic. The walls are covered with print outs of designs, sketches, and inspirations for shots. One whole room was covered in the huge carnival banners used earlier this season.

There were plenty of test shots and inspiration shots on the walls for the season finale (I can’t post those pics though, sorry folks)! We were told that the art department publishes a book of all their work each season through blurb.com but I’ve not been able to find it on there. Might be private. I’ll let you guys know if its something us fans can access.

Next we went back through the office and met up with Lesley DeHaan who is the Fan Coordinator (and occassional Second AD) on the show. Lesley is the one that gets all of the fan letters, artwork, postcards, panties, and nude shots for Jensen and Jared. Lesley was hysterical and a great sport. We just kind of ambushed her and took her to task. Her laptop rocks, the Metallicar was in full effect.

A good number of you fans emailed me wondering if the boys actually read all the postcards and fanmail out there and I’m pleased to tell you that YES THEY DO!

The coolest part of it all is that all of the artwork and postcards received line the walls of Lesley’s area and the surrounding production halls. It’s insane. Tons and tons of cards and drawings everywhere!

My favorites have to be the original artworks and the one with plastic dolls! Genius, this guy does a different Ken doll interpretation of Jensen and Jared each week and posts them online at Plastic Winchester Theater anteka.livejournal.com. These are a huge production favorite. I was told that they get the biggest kick out of the dolls and love that its something online that is updated regularly!

Someone sent a shoebox full of 1000 cranes in support of keeping Supernatural on the air! You can see them all below.

It’s amazing. Some are made of origami paper, some from maps, etc. Unbelievable sight! Lesley gets to rummage through the coolest stuff! She did however say that she’s yet to receive any male nudes or undies. I told her that obviously my mail must have been lost!

We met up with Lou Bollo who is the Stunt Coordinator on Supernatural and he told us some great stories. A lot of it was stuff we already knew, that the boys are really athletic and competetive, they like to do their own stunts, and that hours and hours of preparations go into even the smallest stunt to ensure safety. He sat us all down and was just really down to earth. Willing to answer anything we threw his way and willing to open up about any and everything stunt wise on the show.

There was this hysterical and minimalist model in the room. He said it was their first mock-up of a model for the show. It was a plain white box with two white standups that had pictures of J&J on them. Pretty hysterical looking. Thanks to Rae for the photo.

We eventually wandered onto a soundstage where the prop department were busy putting the finishing touches on a large number of tombstones!

There are just a couple soundstages full of props in development, in production, or in waiting and/or storage. We saw their Motel set which changes episode to episode. As mentioned earlier, there are a ton of signature Motel walls throughout the offices and the set was no exception. A cool mid-70’s tangerine motif was rocking the set this week with some great orange glass decorations. They must have so much fun designing these Motels. Seriously!

*As this is my second pass at writing this set visit recap, I’ll end Part 1 here. I’m still beside myself that I lost the entire first write up I did which was complete and full of witty comments and snarky moments…

STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 - More sets and we meet the boys!
