I am not a human pin-cushion!

Today is our wellness screening at work, which we do twice a year. You get your blood pressure taken and then your blood drawn and it goes through a really comprehensive screening and the results are mailed to you. And it's all paid for by my company.
For the first few years I worked here, a nice guy by the name of Ceasar drew our blood. He was fantastic! Then Ceasar left the wellness company and ever since then, these women treat me (and others) like a human pin-cushion. They can NEVER find my vein. It's gotten so that I absolutely dread doing this.
There were two different women there this morning and I went through the speil about using the smallest needle on me, use my left arm, they can never find the vein on the first or even second try, etc.
Well surprise, surprise, Autumn nailed it on the first try! It hasn't been this painless in years and I complemented her and thanked her for not putting me through undue trauma. :-)
A few of my co-workers, who had also had problems in the past, called me and told me that Autumn got their vein on the first try as well.
I certainly hope I see Autumn again in six months!

Date: 2007-03-20 05:35 pm (UTC)My best "human pin cusion" story happened a couple weeks ago, actually, when I was getting my wisdom teeth out. By the end of the day, I had a grand total of 6 gauze pads/bandaids on my arms and hands! Long story short: when you haven't had much to drink, it's harder to get the needle into a vein. Since they were putting me under general anesthesia, I couldn't drink anything for a certain number of hours before. So, before the surgery, they tried in two different spots on my left arm, then finally got it in on my right hand.
Then, that afternoon, I had an unfortunate side affect with the pain medication they gave me, and had to go to the hospital (Nothing serious though! No worries!). They put an IV in my left hand in the ambulance, but couldn't get blood to come out of the IV, so then had to give me a finger prick. Later at the hospital, they needed more blood and it still wouldn't come out of the IV, so they had to take it out of my right arm.
So, therefore...6 holes. xD And I thought my spring break wasn't going to be exciting!

Well, the side affect wasn't anything too bad really. It just dropped my blood pressure enough to make me pass out is all, so it's not like I felt bad or anything. Actually, I felt fine, they were just being safe taking me to the hospital to make sure they could get it back up. They didn't even rush me there at all. In fact, getting stuck more was really the worst part of it, aside from having to spend so much time in a backed-up ER. :P

But, it's so cool that your company pays for wellness screenings for you!

It really is, as the basic tests are $60.00, twice a year. But not only that, if you do take part in the wellness screening, you're given $200 in an account here that you can use for any type of wellness activity - like joining a health club or going to a chiropractor, etc.
