Morning, everyone!

So...did we all have a good laugh last night? Ha! Me and [livejournal.com profile] charityflint laughed so hard I think we hurt something. :-) Heck, I'm still chuckling over a few things and can't wait to get home tonight to watch it all over again!

Oh! Oh! They played JunkFood last night! Yes!! They're the band that won the MySpace contest to have their song on SPN and I've been waiting to hear it. They played "Next to You" during the bar scene when Sam and Dean first start talking to the college kids. Love that song and I voted for JunkFood so it was great to finally hear it.

Ok! So on to Tina Charles's watercooler review of Tall Tales from tvguide.com and a few of my thoughts at the end.

C'mon, let's all laugh again!

(Keep your fingers crossed our ratings are WAY better than last week's. I'll be back around 11am CST with the numbers)

February 15, 2007: Tall Tales

So, at first it was kinda weird that we got such a fun episode after wading knee-deep in drama and angst during last week's "Born Under a Bad Sign," but then I dismissed that idiotic notion. After all, "Tall Tales" gave us a chance to see Sam and Dean get on each other's nerves for something other than one of the brother's being possessed or a shapeshifter; we got another Bobby appearance; and, there was some WWE going on — that is, Winchester Wrestling Entertainment. That smackdown needed to last just a little bit longer if you ask me. Anyway, it all added up to some seriously hilarious moments in what was a fluffy, 99-percent angst-free episode. I just loved that the petty conflicts between the boys were simply because of a trickster. Their different POVs were also funny since we got a glimpse of how Sam and Dean really see each other. And you know what? It isn't pretty. And then, after all the hilarity ensued, there was that cute little moment at the Impala where the brothers Winchester wanted to say sorry to each other without actually having to say the words. So they let their considerable powers of avoidance and non-verbal communication do their talking. Oh, boys.

We knew "Tall Tales" wasn't going to be all soap opera and melodrama right from the "previously." Comedy from "Playthings", "Hell House", "Bloodlust", "Hunted" and the pilot were on display. I do have one issue: Where was all the comedy from "Phantom Traveler?" I still think PT is one of the funniest episodes — even funnier than "Hell House."

The "Weekly World News" angle was cool — never thought we'd see an alien abduction on this show. That all just sounds so X-Files. There were little moments that made "Tall Tales" a little more adult than your average episode. Some things I can't even print in this blog because it's a little too off-color for your average Friday-morning review. Something I never thought I'd hear on this show: Barry White. Loved that. Seeing Bobby again for the second week in a row was just great because he totally rocks. It seems like he's the who can develop into the father figure Sam and Dean need as they continue this journey towards killing the Demon; so, here's to hoping they continue to utilize Jim Beaver. I love how Bobby cut through all the crap to pinpoint the monster of the week . Plus, he gets bonus points for having to listen to exaggerated versions of Sam and Dean's recaps of the case.

That's two weeks in a row Dean was on the business end of a beatdown. Instead of Sam, this time it was the trickster's femmebots that did the deed. And how cool is it that Sam and Dean think the trickster is dead and gone, but another one just popped up in his place, after they made their exit. That's kind of scary. How funny would it be if the trickster were now seeking revenge on Sam and Dean? They could add them to the list that's growing just about every week.

Funny Moments:
—Dean turning the music up when Sam asked him to turn it down.
—Purple Nurples.
—According to Sam, he's the one that's all business, meanwhile Dean's burping, downing shots and hitting on "classy" chicks. Dean also can't help but stuff his mouth with food and then interrogate the janitor/trickster at the same time.
—In Dean's P.O.V., Sammy's super uptight and Dean can't even be bothered to hear what he's saying. Meanwhile, the graduate student he's hitting on can't think about anything but his good looks: "Sorry, I can't even concentrate. It's like staring into the sun."
—Sam's computer froze on a porn site.
—The jerk frat boy told Sam and Dean about his alien abduction: "They made me slow dance!" Cut to frat boy dancing with alien set to Chris De Burgh's "Lady in Red."
—Dean envisions Sam as an "overly sensitive, touchy-feely hugging strangers Mr. Perfect" kind of guy: "You're too precious for this world."

Favorite Lines:
"What are you drinking?" "I don't know man, I think they're called Purple Nurples."
"Starla, hey. This is my shuttle/co-pilot Major Tom. Major Tom, Starla." "Enchanté."
"I don't say things like feisty little wildcat. And her name wasn't Starla."
"You oughta give those Purple Nurples a shot."
"I don't sound like that, Dean." "That's what you sound like to me."
"You're bickering like an old married couple."
"They probed you?" "Yeah, they probed me. Again. And again. And again. (drinks shot) And again. And again. And then one more time."
"How can it get any worse? Some alien made you his bitch."
"Looks like you lost it, Poindexter."
"Dude, you know something? I put up with a lot from you." "What are you talking about? I'm a joy to be around."
"How would you feel if I screwed with the Impala?" "It'd be the last thing you ever did."
"Consider it reparations for emotional trauma."
"If you two bothered to pull your heads out of your asses, it all would have been pretty clear."
"You guys are breaking my heart, can we please just leave?"

Other thoughts:
—That Sam carries a lot of cash on him. Where'd he get it?
—I still wish we had gotten something more than "Good to see you so soon" from Bobby. Last time Bobby saw Sammy he had just been possessed. I think something could have been mentioned about what both Sam and Dean went through in BUABS.
—The jerk frat boy was played by David Tom — daytime TV fans will know him from his stint on The Young and the Restless. His sisters are ex-soap star Heather Tom and The Nanny's Nicholle Tom.
—Well, I can't believe we're hitting another hiatus. Next week, I'll probably create another thread to take us to March 15 — the next new episode.
—Does anybody else notice that this season is going ridiculously fast?

~~~~~~
Another good summary, Tina!
I, too, thought it was odd to get a funny episode right after the angst-fest that was Born Under a Bad Sign. But I quickly forgot about it as the laughs started coming. :-)
Was very cool to see the differing POV's from Sam and Dean and to just see them bicker as brothers do. Granted, it was because of the trickster, but he just brought out those feelings to the forefront. Sam had it right - he and Dean are in each other's faces 24/7 and you're bound to get on each other's nerves.
I can't begin to count the number of things that made me laugh - Dean stuffing the candy in his mouth, Sam's interpretation of what happened in the bar with Dean and that girl (man, was she lucky or what?? Lipl-ocking with Jensen!!), Dean's "blah, blah, blah" POV of Sam...it goes on and on. :-)
Loved seeing Bobby again!! Tina's right - he could be the father figure to the boys and I wouldn't mind a bit. I just loved his exasperated looks as Sam and Dean took turns telling the story. LOL!
Can anyone tell me where I've see the guy who played the trickster? I know he's another revolving Vancouver actor!
Was terribly disappointed that the brother wrestling scene didn't extend past what was in the director's clip. We needed WAYYYY more of that!
So I guess Dean's all recovered from his gunshot wound, eh? Grrr.... I hate it when characters miraculously heal from one week to the next. Since Bobby said he'd just seen them recently, you'd think Dean'd still be favoring that arm or something. Speaking of Dean - dude! He got the smackdown put on him by two girls! LOL! But man, did you see all the JensenTummy we got to see last night?? Squee! Dean just needs to take his shirt off this season and be done with it. ;-)
The ending was good, with the boys standing outside the Impala. Typical Winchester way of apologizing by not really saying anything, but still, the meaning was there and that's what's important - and then Bobby's funny line to kinda break the tension. :-)
All in all, I liked Tall Tales and will definitely be watching it a few times.
Man, I'm SO ticked that we've got another freaking MONTH until another new episode! ARGH! I hate these freaking hiatuses. :-(
Tina was right, though - this season really does seem to be flying by!
So -what did YOU think of Tall Tales and what was YOUR favorite funny moment? Talk to me, people!
Oh, my sweet and fluffy lord!
I was just dying last night! These boys love to do comedy and they are so good at it, both the verbal and the physical comedy.
I think the general bickering, when we were seeing the "real" version was my favorite. Because you just know these two fight like that more often than not. When they were fighting about the car and Dean wouldn't give Sam his money and they nearly ended in a bitch slap fight? Pure. Gold!
*giggles until snorts*
I love our show...
They're fantastic at the funny stuff! The pranks were great last year, but this physical stuff and differing POVs was even better.
Because you just know these two fight like that more often than not.
Oh man, they'd have to. Like Sam said to Bobby, they're in each others pockets 24/7. That's bound to get on each other's nerves. And they're brothers! Of course they're gonna fight!
and they nearly ended in a bitch slap fight? Pure. Gold
ROTFL! That scene needed to go on longer! That totally reminded me of me and my younger sister - "give it to me" "No" "give it back!" and then we'd end up wrestling on the floor, too. :-)
I love our show...
We so rock!
Oh my GOD! I was laughing so hard that Maggie got weirded out and left her bed to go hide out in the bedroom!
Did they do some CGI with Jensen's stuffed cheeks? If they didn't, that boy has some elasticity to his skin! :)
This episode was absolutely *hysterical*. I loved it. I also loved that the trickster really seemed to have mutual admiration society thing going on with Dean. Maybe this particular demi-god will still be willing to give them some leeway if they swing into his territory again.
Man, I watched Tall Tales again on Friday, and they had to have done something. That's just not natural!
I also loved that the trickster really seemed to have mutual admiration society thing going on with Dean
Yeah, that was really interesting, that he knew what Sam and Dean were and was hoping to get a pass from them. Poor Sam and Dean, thinking they'd got rid of him, but I guess there's no tricking the Trickster! I did enjoy that twist to the ending. :-)
Okay, seriously, Bobby was SO about to whup BOTH their butts! HA!
Hotel rather than Motel, this week. SUCKY hotel, but still.
OMG Sam was the PISSIEST BITCH to DEAN in Dean's version of the bar! I have to say, I'm really proud of Jared for really selling that scene and the Over-The-Top Emo Sam scene. I do think Sam came off worse in Dean's view than Dean did in Sam's. I don't know if that was on purpose or if it's just me.
Each thing did have an echo in the series. Dean's eating in Nightmare, and Provenance. Dean hitting on girls in bars while Sam works, and his wild cover stories ("I've been talking to my producers . . . )and trying to fix Sam up. Sam telling Dean to keep his mind on the job (You mind thinking with your upstairs brain, Dean?). Sam being all emo when they question witnesses. (Max in Home, The Dad in Dead in the Water, etc)
This wasn't one of the POV things, but Sam being almost sick over a body in the morgue. WEird though that he got so close to it.
We've seen before how important the Impala is to Dean, I don't know if we've ever seen Sam being all possesive about his things before. Have we?
The real Dean stuff was such CLASSIC big brother stuff! Eating on Sam's bed (What the hell WAS that he was eating?), turning up the radio. The way he just held Sam's money away from him, you KNOW he's been doing that since Sam was four years old!
AND - Dean DIDN'T hide Sam's computer - but he so DID cause it to freeze on BustyAsianBeauties.com!
And he did get a beer out for Sammy without being asked. That was sweet.
I loved watching them trying not to laugh at the 'probed' guy!
But even more I loved Dean's connection between the victims "They were all dicks!" Hee!
Sam has a pretty nice looking engraved money clip.
Also, the Native American sounding flute that kept playing makes me think the trickster was Coyote.
I loved that they tricked the trickster! And Dean getting his ass handed to him by two chicks in stilletto heels was brilliant!
And Winchester way of apologizing I SO agree with you!
LOVE Bobby! It'd be great to see some flashback stuff with Bobby and Wee!Winchesters!
Okay, seriously, Bobby was SO about to whup BOTH their butts! HA!
Weren’t his expressions the BEST??
Hotel rather than Motel, this week. SUCKY hotel, but still.
Yep, the boys are moving up in the world. ;-)
OMG Sam was the PISSIEST BITCH to DEAN in Dean's version of the bar!
Wasn’t that the most hysterical scene?? When the “blah-blah”’s started at first was confused, then I was like, “oh, Dean!”
I have to say, I'm really proud of Jared for really selling that scene and the Over-The-Top Emo Sam scene.
What a blast Jared must’ve had, filming Sign and Tales back to back – going from wicked evil to over the top emo.
I do think Sam came off worse in Dean's view than Dean did in Sam's. I don't know if that was on purpose or if it's just me.
Oh man, I felt the same way! He really was a pissy bitch in all of Dean’s POV scenes.
Each thing did have an echo in the series
Wow, good catches! I love when the writers do stuff like that.
This wasn't one of the POV things, but Sam being almost sick over a body in the morgue. WEird though that he got so close to it.
Actually, didn’t he act kinda wiggy in Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things when they look at the decapitated head?
We've seen before how important the Impala is to Dean, I don't know if we've ever seen Sam being all possesive about his things before. Have we?
No, I think that was the first. I wish Sam would put some funky stickers on this computer like his old one. And hey, did he ever get it back??
The real Dean stuff was such CLASSIC big brother stuff!
Oh, totally! What sibling doesn’t torture their brother or sister like that?
AND - Dean DIDN'T hide Sam's computer - but he so DID cause it to freeze on BustyAsianBeauties.com!
What is with all the porn references this season?? Trying to make sure we know the brothers are straight? Heh, we know better. ;-)
I loved watching them trying not to laugh at the 'probed' guy!
Their facial expressions were priceless!
But even more I loved Dean's connection between the victims "They were all dicks!" Hee!
And he said “dicks” twice!
Sam has a pretty nice looking engraved money clip.
I want to know where he got all that money!
Also, the Native American sounding flute that kept playing makes me think the trickster was Coyote.
Oooh, I hadn’t thought about that. You could be right!
LOVE Bobby! It'd be great to see some flashback stuff with Bobby and Wee!Winchesters!
Oh, that’d be fantastic! Looks like no flashbacks this season (bummer) but maybe next year or even in the comics would be good.
Oh man, I felt the same way! He really was a pissy bitch in all of Dean’s POV scenes.
Right, and all Dean did was hit on a skanky girl (not too far from the truth) and put a lot of candy in his mouth. I felt like with Sam's POV, what Sam was saying about himself was pretty close to true, and Dean was slightly exaggerated, whereas in Dean's POV EVERYTHING was exaggerated. His own James Bond-like smoothness, and the girl "It's like looking into the sun" were so FUNNY! Although he was pretty normal in the emo Sam scene, I guess.
Actually, didn’t he act kinda wiggy in Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things when they look at the decapitated head?
Yeah, he did. I meant it WAS an echo of something else, but it was a real moment in the Tall Tales ep, not a POV scene. The last scene of the two of them looking at each other over the roof of the Impala is an echo from previous eps too. Even calling Bobby is something they wanted to do in Croatoan, but they had no phone reception. I think there's even more in there, I'll have to watch it again.
I wish Sam would put some funky stickers on this computer like his old one. And hey, did he ever get it back??
Have you ever seen any of the conversation (I think I might have read this on the TWoP bords, not sure though) about just WHOSE laptop it was during the 1st season? People who thought it was Sam's usually cited that it was Sam who generally used it, and that Dean still had a cassette player in his car, why on eath would he have a laptop?
But those who thought it was Dean's (my opinion) cited that Sam lost everything in the fire which killed Jessica. It's pretty unlikely that his laptop wouldn't have been there. And the stickers, which are not exactly Sam's style, but definitely are Dean's. Also, Dean might not want to put a CD player in the Impala for any number of reasons, not the least of which that he alreadcy has all his music on tapes, why would he wanna go and get CDs of the same stuff? But that's doesn't mean he's some sort of technophobe.
So, anyway, I definitely do think that the new laptop is SAM'S, but we might not see any stickers on it.
What is with all the porn references this season?? Trying to make sure we know the brothers are straight? Heh, we know better. ;-)
Yeah, give it up people, we KNOW where they're satisfying their sex drives, okay! ; )
I want to know where he got all that money!
Dean's been pimping him out again!
Actaully someone on another blog asked WHY Sam wopuld have all that cash when they usaully use their credit cards. I think it's to eat on. Some little diners dodn't take cards. Or maybe it's tips for the waitresses. Or, heck, maybe he takes out the cash advance as soon as they get a new card, that way they've got cash to carry them even after the card company realizes it isn't getting paid.
I can't imagine Sam buying that money clip for himself though, it had to come from Dad, Dean or Jess.
even in the comics would be good.
Yes! That would be awesome!
I loved that that’s how he saw himself. Oh, Dean! LOL!
Have you ever seen any of the conversation (I think I might have read this on the TWoP bords, not sure though) about just WHOSE laptop it was during the 1st season?
Oh yeah, that’s been debated back and forth. At first I assumed that it was Sam’s, since he carries it all the time and uses it more than Dean. But then I realized that everything Sam had would’ve burned in the fire, so it must be Dean’s. And Dean would’ve had one, since at that point he was going on hunts alone. And yeah, the stickers do see more Dean’s style, don’t they? And since Sam’s always been the geekboy sidekick, Dean’s probably more than happy to let him do all the research on the computer. Since apparently all Dean likes to do is surf for porn on it. ;-)
So, anyway, I definitely do think that the new laptop is SAM'S, but we might not see any stickers on it.
Yeah, I agree that this new one is one that Sam probably picked out and that Dean used a fake credit card to buy. *g* But it’s too plain looking Sammy!
Yeah, give it up people, we KNOW where they're satisfying their sex drives, okay! ; )
Damn straight! With each other! Hee!
Dean's been pimping him out again!
Well no wonder he had so much money! LOL!
Actaully someone on another blog asked WHY Sam wopuld have all that cash when they usaully use their credit cards. I think it's to eat on.
That makes perfect sense. And look how much cash Dean had on him in BUABS – paying off the cashier clerk at the gas station and then all that he gave the motel guy to use the computer. I mean, they’ve got to have regular cash on them. Can’t use a credit card for everything! I really want to see a scene where Dean is hustling pool. All we got in the one ep last season was Dean coming out of the bar and waving all the cash.
I can't imagine Sam buying that money clip for himself though, it had to come from Dad, Dean or Jess.
With it being engraved like that, I see it as a gift from Jess.
Yeah, I watched GA and taped SPN. Dear JDM was on--for about five seconds at the end! I'd had a beer, so I was kinda semi-drunk and didn't get as pissed about it as I could have. Oh, well. On to "Tall Tales."
The recap clearly showed that "TT" wasn't going to be an angsty SPN; would have loved to see that "Phantom Traveler" shot of Dean looking so adorably rumpled in bed(if SPN gets a third season I hope Jensen wears a little beard, like some of those cute CW shots where he and Jared are wearing black shirts? Kinda freaky how the guys always seem to find time to shave, and Dean gets regular haircuts!). From there it got wilder and wilder, and I was laughing my butt off. I even liked the faded grandeur of that crumbly hotel room the boys were staying in, right down to the old chandelier.
What was my favorite funny moment? Ooh, what to choose. Dean eating on the bed--looked like chili fries to me. Dean getting his candy freak on? Sam seeing Dean's bar date as a skank? The wrestling match (yum)?
I'd have to say, Barry White. I just lost it then, I was still kinda loopy from the beer. I LOVED the disco ball and the hooker bed--did the trickster have Dean's number or what?
And Bobby was back! So glad. If only Kripke had had the boys going back to him instead of the roadhouse, etc.
The guys' 'apologies' at the end wasn't as tender as the one in "Scarecrow," which had me in tears, but it's one of the many, many reasons why I love the show so much; it lets the guys be GUYS. They don't have to rhapsodize about how they feel, they show it. Could anyone doubt that they love and respect each other?
It's about time that Dean wins the next fight; I'm almost hoping that he and Six get into it (heh).
Kripke, I bet you know why we're getting slapped with another hiatus...
LOL! So you were watching JDM while drunk? Hee! I do hear that he’s going to be in it much more this Thursday, and since SPN is a rerun (grrr…) I think I’ll tape Grey’s to see Papa Winchester. :-)
Kinda freaky how the guys always seem to find time to shave, and Dean gets regular haircuts!).
Ha! Yeah, I’m beginning to think that Dean carries clippers around and cuts his own hair, and we all know that Sam just can’t be bothered. ;-)
From there it got wilder and wilder, and I was laughing my butt off. I even liked the faded grandeur of that crumbly hotel room the boys were staying in, right down to the old chandelier.
Yes! A “real” hotel this time, not a motel! The boys are moving up in the world. [snerk] Man, I want a job in the prop department, to come up with these hideous sets every week!
What was my favorite funny moment? Ooh, what to choose. Dean eating on the bed--looked like chili fries to me
That was SO gross, I don’t care what he was eating!
Dean getting his candy freak on?
Now that’s when I truly bust a gut laughing. LOL!
I LOVED the disco ball and the hooker bed--did the trickster have Dean's number or what?
Oh yeah, he knew what makes the older Winchester tick!
And Bobby was back! So glad. If only Kripke had had the boys going back to him instead of the roadhouse, etc.
Yay for Bobby! Yes, please, Eric, keep with Bobby and ditch the useless Roadhouse crew!
The guys' 'apologies' at the end wasn't as tender as the one in "Scarecrow," which had me in tears, but it's one of the many, many reasons why I love the show so much; it lets the guys be GUYS. They don't have to rhapsodize about how they feel, they show it. Could anyone doubt that they love and respect each other?
The “apology” really was classic Winchester, wasn’t it? We can’t quite say out loud what we really feel, but each knows it nonetheless.
It's about time that Dean wins the next fight; I'm almost hoping that he and Six get into it (heh).
Geez, if Dean gets his ass kicked one more time this season! LOL! Though it was funny watching him get the smackdown put on him by two women. Hee!
Kripke, I bet you know why we're getting slapped with another hiatus...
Yeah, man, what’s the freaking deal???
