From Marc Berman at the Programming Insider:
Rounding off the 9 p.m. hour were Fox’s soon-to-conclude The O.C. (Viewers: 3.57 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 4) and the CW's Supernatural (Viewers: 2.83 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3), which disappointed with retention out of Smallville of 61 percent in total viewers and 67 percent among adults 18-49. Sorry, Supernatural, but competing The O.C.’s advantage of 740,000 viewers and 33 percent among adults 18-49 makes you a loser this week.
Half hour breakdown:
9:00 p.m. V: 2.95 million, A18-49: 1.2/ 3
9:30 p.m. V: 2.71 million, A18-49: 1.1/ 3
~~~~~
Wow, I'm totally stunned. Last night's episode was incredible! And to only score 2.83 million??
Last week we had 3.34 million, so this is a complete disappointment. :-( Wasn't there supposed to be some huge episode of Grey's on last night? I wonder if that affected our ratings.
And in comparision, here's how the other CW shows did this week, along with some comments from Marc, which I thought folks would be interested in as well:
Smallville: 4.67 million
Gilmore Girls: 4.62 million
(To the fans -- or non-fans -- of Gilmore Girls debating whether the show should return next season, note that it’s year-ago performance on the WB was a heftier 5.40 million viewers with a 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49 (and that was also opposite American Idol). I vote to let Gilmore Girls exit while it still has some dignity left.)
Beauty and the Geek: 4.39 million
Everybody Hates Chris: 3.15 million
(which remains down by double-digit percentages year-to-year from its former Thursday 8 p.m. time period)
One Tree Hill: 2.85 million
All of Us: 2.74 million
(After three low-rated seasons, isn’t it time for the CW to swing the axe on All of Us?)
Girlfriends: 2.72 million
The Game: 2.66 million
Veronica Mars: 2.47 million
(with retention out of Gilmore Girls of just 53 percent in viewers and 55 percent in the demo). Year-ago WB occupant Supernatural averaged 4.27 million viewers and a 1.9/ 4 among adults 18-49. Sorry folks, but this certainly does not make Veronica Mars worthy of a fourth season renewal.)
Very sad that we didn't even beat One Tree Hill this week. :-(
Date: 2007-02-09 06:15 pm (UTC)Yes, Grey's was supposedly pretty big last night, so that may have taken away from Supernatural's viewers, but still...why weren't more people watching this epsiode?! The way it was advertised, anybody who watches Supernatural even occasionally knew it was going to be big.
I used to love Gilmore Girls, but it started going downhill last season and took a complete nosedive this season, and I don't even watch it anymore. Personally, I think it's time for it to go. I don't watch any other CW shows, so I don't care about any of the rest as long as Supernatural gets a third season, and hopefully a better timeslot!
Date: 2007-02-12 01:27 am (UTC)I'm not going to completely panic unless Tall Tales this week also falls below 3 million. I'm hoping that Sign's ratings were just a fluke! But boy, people just have NO idea what they missed by not watching it.
Date: 2007-02-12 01:49 am (UTC)It was one of the best episodes of the season and so many people missed it.
Date: 2007-02-10 03:27 am (UTC)I know that the rating this week reflect the episode of the week before more than the episode that was airing, but I thought Houses of the Holy was pretty good. Maybe people were either turned off by the religious aspect, or mad because it didn't turn out to be an angel.
Date: 2007-02-12 06:20 pm (UTC)So, what do you think of the idea of sending letters and postcards etc. to Dawn Ostroff?
