Weekend ramblings...

Happy Superbowl Sunday, everyone!
At this moment, my Bears are freaking LOSING after having scored in the first seven SECONDS of the game. Grrr... Freaking Grossman. I really can't stand him. The defense is what has carried this team all season and they're trying their hardest tonight, too. But throwing for touchdowns helps, too, Rex!
Anyway, the house hunting went well on Saturday. We totally fell in love with the place I had only seen the outside of and hubby is going to pick up the credit check application, etc. tomorrow from the realtor. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!
We also went and saw a few other homes as well, but the first place is definitely the one we want.
Spent the rest of the day on Saturday with my buddy, charityflint, for her birthday and we ate good food and watched one good movie (Wedding Wars) and one not so good movie (The Wedding Banquet) and just enjoyed hanging around together.
Waking up this morning, I stumbled into the bathroom and turned on the faucet...and got nothing. That's right, our pipes were frozen solid. No wonder with the -30 wind chill we've had for DAYS! So I'm like, great, it's Sunday, who am I going to get a hold of to fix this? To my utmost surprise, our Public Works department was actually working! Two very nice young guys showed up in less than an hour with blowtorches and had the water flowing again in less than 15 minutes! Yay!
Other than that, it's been a pretty quiet day. Caught up on some fanfic reading and packed a few more boxes, went grocery shopping and now here I am watching the Superbowl.
So how was YOUR weekend? And is it Thursday yet?? Hee!

Date: 2007-02-05 03:17 am (UTC)I've had my pipes freeze three or four times in the time I've lived here...and every time I had to call a plumber and pay through the nose. (Well, the museum had to pay through the nose, anyway.) Expecially the time when the pipes burst and gallons of water flooded the basement...
Our Public Works Dept. doesn't do private homes (or museums). I don't even think they do public buildings, because when the library's pipes froze, I think we had to call a plumber too.
Anyway, I'm glad you had guys to come over and fix it! I guess your weather is headed this way for the next week. Brrr. Hmm. Perhaps I should set the sink faucets to dripping tonight.
Congrats on the house hunting! I hope it works out!

Date: 2007-02-05 06:27 pm (UTC)Man, that totally sucks that your P.W. dept. doesn't do homes! And if they don't even do public buildings, what do they actually DO?
Yes, get ready for some unbelievably cold weather. The news people said this morning that if you didn't absolutely have to go outside, stay in. Gee, I didn't get a call from my company to stay home, so here I am. Hmph. The wind chill is still around -30 and the air temperature when I left for work this morning was -9. The only upside to this is that it's too cold to snow!
