ASK ME ANYTHING - Day Fourteen - [livejournal.com profile] pattrose wants to know what is the weather like in December in Chicago. Do I love it? Or do I wish I could retire somewhere warm?

In a word - HORRIBLE. Freezing cold, at least a couple of feet of snow, plus ice. December is absolutely miserable here. So yes, I certainly hope I can retire elsewhere! But I'd actually love to head the the pacific northwest - Oregon or Seattle. They still get winter there but it's nothing like what we have here. And the breathtaking scenery would be worth it anyway!

If you retire

in Oregon or Seattle be prepared for eight months of gray, rainy days because the only clear beautiful days are in summer. I love rain, and lived in Oregon for twelve years but it was an adjustment.

You know, I'm good with that because all that rain makes for beautiful green scenery. Our winter months are cold and dreary and rainy and all we see is concrete. I'll take the pacific northwest, please!

We're going to Seattle for the first time at the end of May. Can't wait. I'm going to see this place you speak so highly of.

My cousins keep emailing me telling me how cold it is and that they never get used to the cold. They're in their 70s now. They are actually my mom's cousins. They're the ones that I told you live in a deaf community and go to a church for the deaf. They do like Chicago for that reason. It's huge and has more to offer people with deafness. That's what she said, anyhow.

I can't send you any warmth right now, because today's hhigh is only going to be 62. Its sort of overcast and gloomy out. I like the sunny days of Tucson.

Thank you for your answers on your life, I'm enjoying the heck out of it. :)

Seattle! I'm jealous! I hope you have a wonderful time. I really like that city. Just the scenery alone is worth the trip. And a good time to go, weather wise.

It's too bad there isn't a large deaf community somewhere south for your mom's cousins so they wouldn't have to put up with this awful weather. Especially being in their 70's.

Your high is only 62? LOL! That's a heat wave here right now! I know what you mean about the sun, though. It's been at least a week since we've seen it. Just been gray and gloomy. Gets depressing!

Every winter I ask myself why I'm still living in Chicago. :-)

Well, since I'm older than you, the kitties and I will probably be retired and moved from Seattle to California. I've lived here since 1978, and I really like it, but I've decided that I want more sun and warmth when I'm old. Maybe you could buy my house, though!
