No, Raphael is still alive. Right now he’s inside a woman, like we saw in The French Mistake. This was just a flashback episode to show how he and Castiel became enemies.
The problem in serving Raphael is that he still wants the Apocalypse to happen, and Castiel doesn’t. So he’s working with Crowley to get souls for his heavenly army to defeat Raphael. It’s the wrong way to go about it but it’s the only option Cas seems to have.
No, we didn’t know until now that it was Cas who pulled Sam from the cage. I fully believe he had no idea that he wouldn’t be able to take Sam’s soul with. He saved Dean, so why couldn’t he save Sam the same way? But it didn’t work like that.
I, personally, liked this episode. I liked finally finding out what the heck’s been going on all season behind the scenes with the war in heaven. And it was heartbreaking to see Dean so betrayed by Cas. Great acting by both of them.
No, I don’t think that we’ll see this war in heaven next season. If we do, it’ll be in the season premiere to wrap up the cliffhanger and that’s it. It’s been dragging on for too long and needs to end. At this point I want to get to season seven to see if Sera can redeem herself from the mess she made this year. But I’m not holding my breath.
