Picked up the next issue of Beginning's End tonight - and it was pretty boring.
The hunter that John, Sam and Dean had been working with in New York decides to kill John (and Dean if he gets in the way) and kidnap Sam because this other hunter's son had been kidnapped and the only way to get him back was to trade him for Sam.
John goes on a rampage to find Sam, killing a bunch of actual humans in the process. This shakes up Dean and even though John gives him an order, he's unable to shoot a man in cold blood. So John does it before the man can pull his gun and kill Dean, sort of berating Dean afterwards.
We find out that it's the elusive John Dee (couldn't they have given the character another name besides John, since we've already got one?) that the Winchesters have been looking for, that has Sam. Dee wants to make some kind of deal with someone for Sam, and that requires opening a gate to Hell, and that's how the issue ends.
There's only one more issue left in this series, which culminates in the fight that prompts Sam to walk out on John (and Dean) and head to Stanford. That leaves a lot of ground to cover. I'm hoping it's done well and makes up for how blah the previous five issues have been, but I'm not holding my breath.
