I know what you mean. It's hard to know that by going back in time, Dean may have actually caused the YED to come into his family's life by directing Samuel and Mary to that house where the YED first sees Mary.
I think YED would find Mary anyway, he did in fact, it's just that this time Dean was the catalyst to the events. But even if he wasn't, it had to be painful to have watched every single person of your family die (because even though he didn't see Mary dying in the fire, he saw the fire, and he knew his mom was still there).
