Watched the two hour series finale of Glee last night. And cried my way through it.

Might sound strange to cry over the end of a TV show. But I loved it. Music has always been an important part of my life. I've sung in choirs from the time I was a kid all the way through my college years and into adulthood in church. I love going to the theater and seeing musicals live on stage. I sing in my car everyday. I listen to music all day long at work. I have amazing memories linked to songs.

So when I first heard about Glee and that it was a musical every single week I was all over it. :-)  I adored all the characters but Kurt quickly became my favorite. I was enamored with the show and downloaded all the songs every week.

I admit the show went off the rails when half the kids graduated. I didn't like any of the new kids they brought on board. I was glad when they started concentrating on all of the New York story lines instead. I think they did a good job of bringing the show back to its roots in this final season. I actually liked all the new kids, but they (and all their teenage drama) weren't the focus. They were just good background characters. I was happy they were able to bring back as many of the original kids as they could throughout this last season.

Which brings me to the series finale. With the exception of two things (Sue as Vice President? Really? and Sam as the coach of New Directions? Wha…?) I thought it was brilliant. I adored the "2009" episode about how they all met. It was then that I started feeling Cory Monteith's absence very keenly. My heart still breaks that his life ended far too soon. So when they replayed Don't Stop Believing at the end of that first hour - that's when the tears started. And they pretty much never stopped throughout the last hour, with everyone saying goodbye over and over. The flash forwards were great, showing where everyone ended up in five years - Rachel as a surrogate for Blaine and Kurt? Loved it! Rachel married to Jesse? Loved it! Tina and Artie back together? So cute! Mr. Shue with apparently several children? Adorable.

But what is WITH last episodes of shows using One Republic's "I Lived"? First CSI and now Glee. I cried throughout that whole last song. Knowing it was the last one ever and seeing basically every single character who's ever been on the show on stage - yeah, it was emotional.

Kudos to Glee for going out on a high note. Thanks for being a soundtrack in my life for the last six years.
