Why is it that the weekends go by so fast and the work week just drags and drags?

So Friday night was spent running errands with John for a very specific project we're working on. We're thinking we'd like to do a little bakery business on the side for some extra money. Been giving it a lot of thought lately so we decided to at least try out a few recipes and see where we go from there. Bought a great Kitchen Aid Artisan stand mixer, then various molds and other kitchen gadgets. It was a busy evening.

We hit the ground running on Saturday with our first trial run with our first recipe - my Milky Way cake. It was trial and error since I'm trying to adapt it from one big cake down to individual size desserts. First batch got cooked too long. And the semi-sweet chocolate glaze was too overpowering. But the second batch cooked perfectly and the milk chocolate glaze was much better. Success! Took us practically the entire morning and afternoon, but it was worth it. Next up is going to be a maple bacon cake, because even though I don't like bacon, I can't deny it's the biggest thing in the food scene. Third one is going to be a lemon cake with raspberry glaze. Wish us luck!

Sunday was running around returning some kitchen gadgets we either ended up not needing or didn't work out like we thought, and buying a few others. Our lunch plans fell through thanks to "the small print" on a Living Social deal and I refused to stay and eat there. But John saved the day with a suggestion of lunch at an Italian place we hadn't been to in quite awhile. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon starting, and finishing, a Doctor Who book.

It was also a movie weekend. We had a free preview again of the Epix channel. John decided to watch both Hunger Games and Jack Reacher. Then we both watched Hansel and Gretel:Witch Hunters and also An Officer and a Gentleman. I've never seen that entire movie and I really liked it. I also watched Dredd, with Karl Urban. He got so many questions about that at DCon that I had to check it out. Ummm…yeah, that was probably the most boring movie I've seen in ages. And Karl never took his helmet off! Why this movie has such fanboy devotion I'm not sure.

Last but not least, I got this awesome shirt in the mail on Saturday from my ebook publisher, Dreamspinner Press. Love it! Can't wait to wear it at GRL next month:

So how was YOUR weekend?
