I'm baaa-acck!
May. 28th, 2014 07:43 amI have returned from the Great North, aka Lansing, Michigan. :-) It was a fun five days at MediaWest with my best buddy charityflint. It'd been about 5 years since we last attended this con, and we found that some things changed (different hotel, still crappy) and some things remained the same (incompetent con comm).
It was so good to see so many familiar faces and reconnect with old friends. That's the best part of any con, IMO. Though I have to admit, I did actually go to some very good panels (SPN, Grimm, S.H.I.E.L.D.) and some that would've been good if not for one person monopolizing the entire hour (Sleepy Hollow). And there were also panels for my old, long-time fandoms (Starsky and Hutch, The Sentinel, Pros).
There's no denying that MediaWest is on a downslide, though. It's quite small now, attendance wise. And the dealer's room is now more of a huge garage sale instead of vendors with new merchandise. And the vid show, which used to be 4-5 hours long, was down to only about an hour, with only three slash vids. [sigh]. The art show wasn't bad, had quite a few pieces. But if you're not heavily into the entire Marvel universe there wasn't much of interest.
Even the door decorations were down to about a dozen, when there used to be 50+, easily. I threw ours together at the last minute. We didn't win anything but we got a lot of laughs and lots of photos taken of it by people passing by, so that makes it a win in my book. Here are a few pics. It was a combination of SPN, Sentinel, Starsky and Hutch and Pros.
They all had funny captions, like Dean's: "We are NOT lost. I know exactly where MediaWest con is!" Or Blair's: "And you guys thought I couldn't make it as an exotic dancer". And Bodie's: "Doyle doesn't stand a chance against my X-Ray specs".

That's all for today. I'll have some more photos tomorrow! Hope all of you had a great Memorial Day weekend, too!
