agt_spooky: (Out of the Shadows)
At long last I've finally gotten my first review on my ebook Out of the Shadows, written by my alter ego, Jamie Lynn Miller ([livejournal.com profile] jamie_lynn_m). And I'm thrilled to say that I received 4 out of 5 Divas! I also really appreciated the reviewer pointing out the law enforcement aspect of it, as I truly did do a hell of a lot of research. Some of it in person!

Summary:

For K-9 Officer Shane Walker, transferring from the Tulsa police department to the elite L.A.P.D. was a dream come true. He nearly forgets he’s in Hollywood until he responds to a 911 call that brings him to the home of actor Tyler Donovan.

It appears that Tyler has it all – a career that’s on fire and a loving, long-term relationship with his partner, Alex. But then Shane uncovers the truth that Tyler had been trying to hide, and the illusion comes crashing down.

Can Shane help Tyler break free of a life he’s convinced he deserves before it’s too late, and in the process help them both find love?

Lasha’s Review:

This is the third book by Jamie Lynn Miller that I’ve read and enjoyed. Out of the Shadows begins as rookie K-9 officer Shane Walker answers a call at his favorite actor’s home in Hollywood. Tyler Donovan is beautiful, talented and has a secret – his long-term boyfriend, Alex, has been abusing him for nearly a year. As Alex is arrested and taken away, Shane offers his help to Tyler to get Alex out of his life for good. As Tyler struggles to put his life back together, the two men slowly develop a friendship that will eventually lead to romance.

Romance is the key to this novel. The build-up of Tyler and Shane’s relationship is gradual – they don’t have sex until half-way through the book – but felt right in this instance. The reader could understand why Tyler would want to take things slow, after the disaster with Alex; he needs to know he can trust Shane with his heart and his body. There is no Insta-Love in Out of the Shadows, but a steady acceptance between the two men as they learn to love one another, and then the hot sexing begins.

Another plus for me is the believability and realism of Shane’s job as a K-9 cop. As a former police officer myself, I often find romance novels that have a law enforcement back-drop are unrealistic and not properly researched. That is not the case in Jamie Lynn Miller’s Out of the Shadows, whose research into the criminal justice system is evident throughout the book. She really nails Shane’s dedication to his profession and his ‘partner’ Chase (the dog) is a delightful addition to the plot.

The only niggle I had was the ending, which seemed to be fairly predictable from the outset, but otherwise, I really enjoyed this novel. I highly recommend it and hope the author will consider a sequel. I’d love to see more of Tyler and Shane now that they’ve come out as a couple in Tyler’s high profile world of Hollywood.

Rated 4 Delightful Divas by Lasha !
