Sometimes sequels really aren't necessary
Apr. 27th, 2010 08:38 amSo I took the plunge last night and the hubby and I sat down to watch Boogeyman 2.
Having now seen this movie I would like to revise my opinion on the original film. I now LOVE Eric Kripke's version! LOL! That thing was Shakespeare compared to the sequel.
I do wonder if Eric even saw the script to this movie or if he just took the money and ran.
There was nothing even resembling Eric's original idea in this horrible follow-up. Whereas Eric's was creepy and freaky and played mind-games with you, Boogeyman 2 was nothing more than a cliched teen slasher flick, where blood and guts splatter everywhere and basically everyone dies. Gross and disgusting isn't my cup of tea, so I ended up fast forwarding through most of the killing scenes.
There was only one mention of Eric's movie in this, regarding Barry Watson's character, Tim JENSEN (Heh. Did you have a crystal ball back then, Eric?) and it kinda ticked me off, what they said happened to him. I thought it was ridiculous based on how the first movie ended, but apparently they were grasping at straws, trying to connect the two films.
The reason I decided to watch Boogeyman 2 was because of Matt Cohen, our very own Young John Winchester. Little did I know that he'd be in it for all of 10 minutes. :-( He was good in the scenes he was in, though.
So yeah, I won't be watching the sequel again anytime soon. But if you like splatter films, go for it. Otherwise just stick with the original Boogeyman. :-)
