A great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite actor, Jensen Ackles.

Jensen, I hope you have an absolutely fantastic day today and thanks for bringing me such joy for so many years. :-)

Morning everyone! How was your weekend?

My Saturday was pretty dull and boring, but Sunday turned out to be pretty cool. I went with my buddy Andrew and his new girlfriend, Michelle, to the 25th Anniversary screening of Back to the Future.

Outside the theater was the Delorean, which was way cool. I snapped a couple pics with my phone.

Michelle took a couple pics of Andrew and I with her digital camera, and Andrew's going to email them to me and I'll post them here.

Four of the actors were there - Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Claudia Wells and James Tolken. They sat up front on the small stage and did a 25 minute Q&A session before the movie, and it was fantastic. People asked great questions. And all of the actors looked really good, especially Lea Thompson. I swear she hasn't aged a bit!

They all said their favorite line from the movie, and then I totally squeed when James Tolken said a line of his from Top Gun, too. "Your ego's writing checks your body can't cash." Woot!

Then we watched the movie, which I don't think I've seen in about 10 years, so it was a lot of fun. Afterwards we all got in line for autographs, which is where things kind of went downhill.

Nowhere on the theater's website did it say that autographs were not included in the inflated admission price we paid. So it was to everyone's shock that it was $20.00 each for autographs - cash only. After paying for my ticket and then dinner while we watched the movie, I only had $40.00 and Andrew only had $20.00. So I decided to get Lea (who I couldn't wait to meet) and Christopher's signature and Andrew was going to get Christopher's as well.

The theater is so small that we had to stand outside in the freezing weather for over an hour before the line even moved. We finally get inside and up to where you have to pay for your autographs and I tell the guy who I wanted. He tells me, "Oh, Lea left." WHAT?? I wait for an hour and a half and she LEAVES?? I was fucking PISSED. And there was still one more showing of the movie that night. If I paid to see her in the Q&A and she wasn't there I'd be furious.

So I ended up with James and Christopher's autographs. Both of them were very nice, especially James, who wanted to have a nice chat with each person. Christopher was friendly but...a bit out of it. :-)

On a different note, I mentioned that I got to meet Andrew's new girlfriend, Michelle. She was...okay, I guess. She's the polar opposite of his abusive ex-fiancee, so that's a good thing, but she was just very...blah. I tried to engage her in conversation a few times throughout the evening, but barely got one or two word responses. She also doesn't speak above a whisper, so the few times she did talk I could barely understand her. So, I dunno, my first impression of her wasn't all that great.

Okay, gotta run. Hope all of you had a good weekend, too!

Did anyone post this over the weekend? I didn't see it anywhere. It's from Entertainment Weekly's website. (FYI - I removed the Smallville spoiler at the beginning of the article so I could put this outside a cut)

The CW's identity crisis: Are 'Supernatural' and 'Smallville' better than 'Gossip Girl' and '90210'?
by Ken Tucker

I kept seeing commercials for new March episodes of Melrose Place and 90210 and Gossip Girl and Life Unexpected. I have a soft spot for the lovably twee Life, but it’s not really amounting to much. As for the rest: blechh. Seeing all that promotional posing and pouting, I thought, I’ve pretty much had it with the CW’s cool-hip brigade. And that so includes One Tree Hill.

The CW has never had huge ratings, and it’s struggled to establish its brand identity. So here’s an idea. Why not rededicate itself to being the home of Supernatural, Smallville, and Vampire Diaries (its best cool-hip show primarily because its cool-hip is enlivened by its fantasy element), and develop more shows in this genre?

I know the business counter-argument to this: the network can assert that it gets more ad dollars by dangling youth and beauty. That Leighton Meester makes more of an impact in the media than Jensen Ackles.

But I don’t write a business column; I advocate for what’s interesting to watch. And at this point in their respective histories, I am certain that Supernatural is more fun to follow than Gossip Girl is, and I know that the people who are doing amusing variations on the Superman mythology in Smallville are giving us better entertainment than the talented folks who are trying heroically to breathe life into the wheezing 90210 legacy.

Am I wrong?

You're not wrong, Ken! I agree with you wholeheartedly. I mean, can't the CW look at it's own ratings week to week and realize that VD, SPN and SV are always at the top of the pile? Why keep forcing all this teen-angst-drama-who's sleeping with who this week crap down our throats when you've got a formula that's working. And that draws in the female audience you're looking for. I just don't understand what Ostroff is thinking.

And if they DID give Jensen (and Jared) some press time, they'd see our two boys are as big a draw as Leighton Meester is.

What do you guys think? Thoughts? Opinions?

Wow, you just can't shut me up today, can you? :-)

Anyway, I totally forgot to put this in my post about the Back to the Future event. That theater does special events like this all the time, and before the Q&A session started they announced several of their upcoming events.

One of them is a screening of The Exorcist on March 13th, and Linda Blair herself is going to be at the theater for autographs and pictures.

Now I could care less about the horror movie, but the chance to ask Linda about working on Supernatural is too good to pass up. :-)

I found these two pics of her and Jensen and I need to decide which I want to take with me to have autographed:

Then if Jensen ever signs up for the Chicago con this October I can have him sign it as well.

I hope she'll get a kick out of me asking about SPN instead of The Exorcist. I really liked The Usual Suspects and thought she did a great job. I'd like to see her back on the show again! The boys can always use someone in the police force on their side. :-)

So yeah, Linda Blair in two weeks! Sweet!
