Was watching a rerun of Quantum Leap last night, the episode Running for Honor. I was once again reminded how many social issues this show tackled. Everything from gender to race to religion to sexuality. But IMO, was never preachy or heavy-handed about it.

Like with this episode dealing with homosexuality in the military. Al had serious issues with that (being a Navy man) but in the end came to see Sam's POV and changed his mind.

LOVE the way the episode ended, with Al asking "One thing I still don't understand. Was Tommy gay?" And Sam replying, "Does it matter?" Brilliant. Just brilliant. :-)

'NCIS: NOLA' to reunite 'Quantum Leap's' Scott Bakula, Dean Stockwell

Oh, boy. Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell are getting together again.

The two stars of the classic time-travel series "Quantum Leap" will be reunited in an upcoming episode of Bakula's latest vehicle, the crime procedural "NCIS: New Orleans."

The news was first reported on EW.com. A CBS representative later confirmed the news.

Stockwell will play a retired cop who gets ensnared in a 40-year-old murder case in the "NCIS" episode.

"We found an opportunity for the tremendously talented Dean Stockwell to reunite on-screen with Scott Bakula," executive producer Gary Glasman told EW. "What a treat for November sweeps. We are thrilled to have him join us for some Thanksgiving fun and intrigue in NOLA.”

~~~~~~~
DID YOU ALL HEAR MY SQUEE????? The last time these amazing men were together was back during Star Trek Enterprise when Dean guest starred. I can't WAIT for a second reunion!! I'm also hoping that eventually we'll have some Enterprise guest stars as well, like Connor Trinneer and/or Dominic Keating. That would be awesome!
After my autograph session with Scott Bakula I went right around the corner to Dean Stockwell's table. I was irritated that the Wizard World map said they were right next to each other when in fact they weren't. Grrrr….
Dean was a riot! That man may be 76 years old, but he's as smart as a whip! He was just getting to his table when I walked up and there were about 6 people ahead of me. Some of the stars were taking photos with you at their table, for a price, of course, but I didn't see a sign on Dean's table about photos. So I asked his handler lady, who was very sweet. She smiled and said yes, just ask, no charge. Yay!
The two guys at the front of the line asked for a picture, too, and Dean's like sure, come on back behind the table. So they went and the handler lady took their photo. They had no more than walked away and some Wizard World guy came running up and told Dean that he had to stop doing that. Give me a freaking break! The man is 76 years old! Let him do whatever the hell he wants! Well, Dean handed this guy his ass. Told him that if these people wanted a photo with him they were going to get one and there was no way he was charging us. You should have seen the look on this guy's face! We all damn near cheered as he walked away, his tail between his legs. Ha!
It was finally my turn and I told him what an honor it was to meet him and like with Scott, told him that to this day QL is still one of my favorite shows. It doesn't matter that it's over 20 years old, it stands the test of time. Thanked me and said that he feels the same way and hopes it will live on for a long time to come.
I asked for a photo and he said, "Hell yes, come on back here, sweetheart!"
Then he shook my hand and gave me a wink and a smile. Hee!
It was so great to have finally met Dean, too. What a sweet, funny, outspoken man. :-)
Next up - meeting Dean Cain and James Marsters!
So Chicago's Wizard World convention this past weekend was at times both fun and extremely frustrating.
Let's start off with the fun - I MET SCOTT BAKULA! Took me 20+ years but it finally happened. :-) I had purchased Scott's VIP ticket, which included an autograph, a photo op and a guaranteed seat at the Star Trek captain's panel. No, there wasn't a Quantum Leap panel even though Dean Stockwell was at the con and they had done QL panels at all of the other Wizard Worlds this year. Grrr…
Having the VIP pass also meant that you got to go first for the autographs and photo ops and somehow I ended up being the very first in line for the autograph session. Gee, no pressure! LOL! When Scott stepped out from behind the curtain at his booth my heart started to pound. Even with the moustache (which I knew he had for a movie he's currently filming) he looked fantastic. He was so tan!
He sat down at the table and looked over and saw me standing there and gave me a big smile and beckoned me over, holding out his hand for me to shake. The way he said Hello sounded just like Sam Beckett! I managed to not embarrass myself and have my mouth just hanging open while I stood there in front of him. :-) I told him how great it was to finally meet him, how much I admire him as an actor and a person and how incredibly talented he is, that his singing voice is outstanding. I swear he blushed! He thanked me and said that was really kind of me to say and then complemented me on the item I was having him sign, a collage of Quantum Leap images. I told him I made it myself and he was impressed. I told him that QL is still one of my all-time favorite shows and that I have a lot of good memories from watching it with my grandmother. He was really pleased about that and said QL will always mean a lot to him, too. As he finished signing I also told him that I had never seen an episode of Star Trek before Enterprise came along, all because of him. He laughed and said he was glad that he was the first Captain I saw. Then he smiled and shook my hand again, said it was a pleasure to have met me and thanked me for my support. And then I floated away up on Cloud 9. :-) He was SO NICE. Just a sweet man who is very grateful for all of his fans. It was definitely worth the 20+ year wait to meet him. [sigh]
Here's my photo op, which was taken the next day. When I walked up he shook my hand again, then stopped me, taking a look at my shirt. He said, "Wow, that's really neat!" I told him I made it and he said, "Great job!"
And here's what I had both he and Dean Stockwell autograph:
I went to the Star Trek captains panel (with Scott, Avery Brooks and William Shatner) and I'll have photos and video from that tomorrow.
Next up today - meeting Dean Stockwell!
The day has arrived when I will FINALLY get to meet Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell! WOOT!
I'm off to Chicago Wizard World/ComicCon right after work this afternoon. Armed with my VIP ticket and wearing my Star Trek: Enterprise t-shirt I'll be attending The Captains panel with Scott, William Shatner and Avery Brooks. Because the Chicago organizers decided NOT to give Scott and Dean their own panel, when they have done so at other Wizard Worlds this year, going to the ST panel is my only way to see Scott on stage. I'm actually really pissed off that there's not a Quantum Leap panel. That was my entire reason for going. :-(
But they have at least seated Scott and Dean right next to each other in the autograph area so I'm hoping to see some interaction between them then. I'll be wearing my Quantum Leap t-shirt on Saturday for the autograph session and my photo op with Scott.
I've waited SO long to meet both of them and I'm terrified I'm going to stand in front of them and not be able to speak! LOL! Wish me luck and I should have some photos and a con report on Sunday or Monday. :-)
Ok, I know it's silly, but it's also so darn cute! LOL!
Finally some good news for a change!
Scott Bakula is coming to Chicago's Wizard World convention in August! Not only him but Dean Stockwell, too! Be still my beating heart, I can't believe I'm going to finally meet them! SQUEE!!
I'm planning on buying Scott's VIP ticket package as soon as I find out if he'll be doing his panel/autographs/photo ops on both Friday and Saturday because I can only go on Saturday. So keep your fingers crossed because I'll be crushed if it's only on Friday and I'm thisclose to meeting him and I won't be able to.
I'm thinking positive, though and I'm SO excited. I mean, what are the chances that I get back into Quantum Leap, and Scott, and he shows up practically in my backyard? :-)
Man, what in the world am I going to have him and Dean autograph…..?
Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell were just at the Toronto Comic Con this past weekend. Here are a couple of snippets from their Quantum Leap panel. I laughed myself silly and I'm so thrilled that these two have remained such good friends, 23 years after QL first debuted.
I've still got my fingers crossed that Scott and/or Dean will be added to the guest list at DragonCon. They were there in 2010, so here's hoping they get asked back, because after watching these vids I want to meet them SO bad.
Why am I not surprised that with the way I’ve gotten back into Quantum Leap it was only a matter of time before I wrote my first fic? :-)
I truly did write this just for myself, since I know I don’t have a ton of QL fans on my flist, but I wanted to post it anyway. I really disliked the way the series ended, so this is my way of giving myself (and Sam and Al) some closure.
Title: Just One Touch
Word Count: 2,350
Then before Al could even say a word, Sam was in front of him, reaching out, after five long years finally, finally able to touch his friend )
When fandoms collide!
So I'm still happily watching my reruns of Quantum Leap every evening and last night my jaw kinda dropped and I burst out laughing at what I heard during "Runaway".
Now before Supernatural I'd never heard of purple nurples and thought it just referred to a drink. Apparently I was wrong! LOL!
agt_spooky: (Scott Bakula)
Ok, folks, this is just getting bizarre! First I get back into Quantum Leap, big time, then start tracking down a bunch of movies that Scott Bakula has done. Then bam! I find out he's going to be on Desperate Housewives for multiple episodes.
But then last night I found out that Scott was on Family Guy, of all things! LOL!
Peter and Quagmire scheme with Mort to burn down his pharmacy and claim the insurance. About halfway through the episode, they're mulling over what they did and Quagmire becomes consumed by guilt, saying, "This isn't who I am! I looked in the mirror this morning and it was like I was seeing someone I'd never met before!" Then the scene cuts away to him looking in the mirror and Scott Bakula (real, not animated) looks back with a smile and says, "Hi! Scott Bakula!"
I nearly died! First because hello random!Scott and second because it was so obviously a Quantum Leap reference because of the mirror. Ha!
But THEN I get a random package in the mail from my long time friend Adam, down in Atlanta. We're always sending each other fannish things when we come across them. Everything from Alien Nation to Star Wars. Now I hadn't told Adam that I was watching Quantum Leap again, so imagine my surprise when I pulled THIS out of the package yesterday:
The first QL comic book! Talk about freaky! I swear my jaw just dropped. I can't wait to talk to Adam and ask him if he's psychic. :-)
Gosh, I wonder where Scott might pop up next….oh yeah, in that issue of Playgirl I just won off eBay yesterday. Woot!
Many thanks to all of you who told me about the Quantum Leap paperback novels and for suggesting I read "Pulitzer" as it was one of the best. I got it off of Amazon and sat down to read it this weekend. Next thing I know, all of Sunday is GONE and I'm flipping the last page. :-)
It was definitely a good book. I loved learning so much more about Al's history, about his time spent in Vietnam, and how Sam changed things (made them worse actually) when he saved his brother, Tom.
However, I was disappointed in how much of the book was devoted to the myriad of other characters instead of Sam and Al (both versions).
But I loved the twist at the end with Sam's wife, Donna, and who her father turned out to be. Never saw that one coming! And there was no denying the emotional pain the author got across with both Al's with Sam caught in the middle, feeling helpless and trying to figure out just what happened to Al in the jungle and in the aftermath. Very moving and very well done.
So thanks again for the rec, everyone!
I see there's about seventeen other novels that were written. I think I'll tackle "Prelude" next. :-)
Hey guys,
Well, here we are, another Monday. Oh, joy. [sigh]
I wanted to thank all of you again for your words of support regarding my aunt and Chloe last week. Don't know what I'd do without you guys. {{HUGS}} I haven't heard anything more from my grandmother about my aunt, so I'm hoping no news is good news. And Chloe is taking her medication well and is as rambunctious as ever, so that's also good news.
I was able to take my mind off of things this weekend for awhile when I went with my best buddy [livejournal.com profile] charityflint to another glass blowing class. Some of you remember when we took our first class last summer, when we made those cool paperweights. This time we made glass hearts for Valentine's Day. What a neat process that was! It's hard to tell exactly what they're going to look like when they're still hot, but from what we could tell they're going to turn out really neat. Charity is going to pick them up on Thursday and then bring mine to the house on Friday when we get together to watch SPN. I'll take a photo of mine and post it this weekend. :-)
It was also Charity's birthday, so after our glass class we went and had lunch at a place that serves Chinese food, but in a Hawaiian themed restaurant. It's actually a really cool place! So because of the Hawaiian theme they have all sorts of fruity tropical drinks and whoo-boy! was mine strong! LOL! Then again, I'm a total lightweight when it comes to drinking. :-)
I gave Charity her gifts back at her house and one thing turned out to be pretty strange. Remember back all those months ago Ript t-shirts was selling the Singer Salvage one? I bought one for Charity and have been holding onto it this whole time. We had to laugh, because now there IS no Singer Salvage, or Bobby and even the Impala is M.I.A.! So yeah, that turned out to be a weird gift!
Went to yoga on Sunday then kinda hibernated the rest of the day. Finished one of the Battlestar Galactica books I got for my birthday and started a Quantum Leap one called Pulitzer that several of you recommended to me.
Speaking of which, ever since I started rewatching Quantum Leap every day I've become a bit obsessed pre-occupied with other things that Scott Bakula has been in. For instance I had no idea he was in a short lived (13 episode) series in 1996 called Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Thankfully I was able to download all of them at a site that's still functioning. But now I'm on the hunt for a few movies that he did.
Has anyone ever seen: Role of a Lifetime, Above Suspicion, Lord of Illusion, The Invaders, A Passion to Kill or Tom Clancy's Netforce? Was wondering if any of those were worth purchasing off of Amazon.
Hey [livejournal.com profile] celtprincess13 - guess what episodes of QL they showed on Friday? All three parts of Trilogy!
So, that's pretty much my weekend in a nutshell. How was YOURS? Do anything exciting?
Have a good start to the week, everyone!
P.S. - thank you [livejournal.com profile] lausbub0402 for the virtual teddy bear. Just what I needed!
Wow, it was SO cool to see how many fellow Quantum Leap fans I've got on my flist!
I had a request for an upload of the songs that Scott sang from the QL soundtrack, so if you can open up a .zip file here ya go!
QL music.zip
38MB
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8KZ24JC0
Songs are:
Somewhere in the Night
Imagine
Blue Moon Kentucky
Baby Let's Play House
Medley from Man of la Mancha
Fate's Wide Wheel
Many of you commented yesterday that you, too, weren't happy with the very last episode of the series, and as I was listening to the soundtrack the lyrics in Fate's Wide Wheel kind of struck me when he sings: "Oh please let there be one final leap" and it made me sad all over again that Sam never did make it home. :-(
Many thanks for the links to the fic in my last post. I've never actually read any QL fic, so I'm really looking forward them! If anyone else has some good stories I'd love some more recs!
agt_spooky: (Quantum Leap)
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this show until just recently. We get the channel G4 and I randomly came across an episode over New Years weekend. Turns out that they show two episodes every morning, so I've been recording them and watching in the evenings after I get home from work.
I remember I first started watching this because my grandmother lived with us back then and she was a fan and she got me hooked on it and into a total crush on Scott Bakula. :-)
As I've been watching I realize that this show really tackled a lot of issues - from racial to domestic abuse to rape and also the Vietnam war (more than once). It also really pulled at your heartstrings. They had a marathon on Saturday and they picked some really good ones - M.I.A. - where all Al wants is for his wife not to give up hope that he's still alive. I dare you not to tear up at the end of that one. The Leap Home - where a 16 year old Sam tries to change the future of his brother, father and sister. The Leap Back - where Sam and Al switch places and Sam gets to see his wife again for the first time in four years but then has to leave to save Al. Again, try not to cry at the end of that one.  And then the very last episode of the series - Mirror Image. I remember being SO mad at the end of this one back in 1993, not knowing if Sam ever got home. I have to think he did, I just wish the creators of the show would've definitely given Sam the happy ending he deserved instead of leaving it up to our imaginations.
I even broke out my Quantum Leap soundtrack to hear Scott sing "Don Quixote," "Dulcinea," and "Impossible Dream". That man's got a great voice!
So do I have any fellow Leap-ers on my flist? I've really been enjoying this trip down memory lane watching QL again, especially since it also brings back good times with my grandmother. :-)
