Supernatural fanfic reading preferences poll

When you're lying in bed from Friday night till Sunday night with a killer migraine, there's not much to do except think random thoughts and pray for the pain to stop. And in my random musings I realized that my SPN fanfic reading preferences have changed somewhat, and I was wondering if it had for anyone else, too.

So how 'bout a poll? :-)

[Poll #1370379]

Your poll is going to be lopsided. I could only answer the first question of the poll because you didn't have an answer that fit me for the second, LOL!

For me, it's not a matter of when the story is set. It's a matter of how well the story is written. Even if it doesn't follow canon exactly, it's not necessarily a deal breaker if the fanfic was written during the hiatus between seasons. I would expect anything written currently to follow current canon even if some of what's being going on squicks me out some :-D

Oh, right I totally agree. I guess the reason I did the poll was because I suddenly realized that I’ve been avoiding reading stories set in the current season because I just can’t stand the tension and angst between Sam and Dean. So I gravitate more toward season one and two stories now and was wondering if other people felt their choice in stories had changed any, too. :-)

Since I didn't really start watching until last year, I think I'm much less picky about when the story is set. It matters more how well it's written, really.

I don't necessarily expect people to be current season compliant, since they may have started the story before whatever is currently happening. And since I'm not sure I'm enjoying what's currently happening, I don't necessarily want to read that anyway. (GO AWAY, Ruby!!!!)

I don't like the tension between Sam & Dean either. There are other ways to create drama that would have them working together, not at odds with one another. I hate to think they're putting Dean in a position where he will have to kill Sam in order to stop him. *shakes fist* Not on, Kripke, not on.

Tell me about it! But I have an awful feeling that that’s exactly where this season is heading. :-(

On the second question, I really like fic set earlier in the series but it's not because I don't like the direction of S4. I love watching the way it plays out, but I can't read that much angst because it just gets to me more.

Migraines suck. Big Time. Hope you're feeling better!

Felt much better yesterday, thank you! Which kinda sucks because the weekend finally gets here and I’m sick for all of it then suddenly all better on Monday morning – to go to work. So not fair! :-)

*Snuggles* Hope you feel better. I get migraines too and know how bad I feel when I get mine.

For the poll... I actually don't read much Gen but when I do it doesn't matter what part of the season it is. But I won't read it unless it's an author I trust or if it's a rec from someone. When it's set in the series has never bothered me.

And thanks for your input on the poll, I appreciate it!

Anything you want to write Hon, I will read. And be a cheerleader to help you out too. LOL

LOL! Oh baby, I’m gonna remember that! I’ve got a gen one in the pipeline right now. :-)

I said I prefer earlier Wincest, but it's mostly because there is so much angst anymore, that throwing the "I'm fucking my brother" angst on top of it is just too much. Anymore, when when I read fic it's so I can get away from the angst in the show. Don't get me wrong, I love that Show can make me cry at the drop of a hat, but when I'm reading fic I don't want the same angst. That's why I've been reading so much more J2 lately, I don't have to worry about all the apocalyptic angst.

I'm going to agree with bitchtude and celtprincess on worrying more about the quality of writing than when the story is set.

(I'm also going to apologize for the double vote - I forgot I was still logged in with that RP journal, and thought the original vote got lost in cyberspace.)

I couldn't vote...because my answer is I'll read stories set in ANY season, but I won't read wincest whenever it is.

:)

LOL! You could’ve voted in the first poll! :-) The reason I did the poll was because I suddenly realized that I’ve been avoiding reading stories set in the current season because I just can’t stand the tension and angst between Sam and Dean. So I gravitate more toward season one and two stories now and was wondering if other people felt their choice in stories had changed any, too. :-)

I didn't answer the question about Gen, because (with a very few exceptions) I don't read Gen. Never have, never will, in any fandom. :)

But Wincest (or J2!), I'll read a story set in any time :)
