It all comes down to this

Well, folks, this is it. Season finale time.
I have NO doubt that tonight's episode will be a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end, drowning in angst all the way.
So Dean's time is up, his contract is coming due. What do YOU think will happen? Is he going to Hell? Will Sam pull off a last minute miracle? Or something else entirely?
Give me your speculations and we'll see soon enough if any of us are right!

I don't see Sam saving him. Dean won't welch on the deal and the only hope, imo, it's a higher power. Something opposed to a demon, but it's unlikely to happen.
no subject
That's what I'm afraid of, too!
imo, it's a higher power. Something opposed to a demon, but it's unlikely to happen.
Oooh, that's interesting! Something else stepping in at the last minute to spare the eldest Winchester his fate. Never say never! Kripke may just surprise us, you never know.

* Nothing will be resolved and we will be left with a cliffhanger to end all TBCs.
* It will *appear* that Dean dies and/or goes to Hell.
* Sam either *will* or will *appear to* regain and prepare to use his powers to save Dean; this may be in conjunction with Sam preparing to or actually following Dean into Hell.
* Sam's "turning" will be in response to some sort of dialogue with Lilith.
My biggest fear?
That they will kill Bobby.
Argh.

Of that I have no doubt! Though it might be a tie with Blair dying in the season (nearly series!) finale. :-)
It will *appear* that Dean dies and/or goes to Hell.
Oooh, a little slight of hand going on you think?
Sam either *will* or will *appear to* regain and prepare to use his powers to save Dean
This is the only thing I have an issue with and that I really hope doesn't happen. I only don't want it to happen because there has been NO sign for so, so long now that Sam still has any powers. If we'd been given little glimpses this season that Sam was starting to come back on line, then I'd think it would be fantastic if he finally bursts out to save Dean. But now? All of a sudden? Too contrived a plot device for me.

Now that would be wicked cool!
Sam's "turning" will be in response to some sort of dialogue with Lilith.
I definitely see a showdown coming between those two.
My biggest fear? That they will kill Bobby.
Bite your tongue! My god, I swear if they do that I am totally and completely done with this show.

I really want them to bring Sam's abilities back in some form - not some all encompassing power, but the visions and sensitivities and such.
no subject
Which I always thought was a very strange comment, coming out of left field, since we'd seen no evidence of Sam's abilities reappearing. I just never thought that Sam was manipulating the dream, but that's just me.
I really want them to bring Sam's abilities back in some form - not some all encompassing power, but the visions and sensitivities and such
Yeah, I never wanted them to leave in the first place. I liked that Sam had visions and thought that they'd take on a different form of some sort now that the YED was dead, since that's what all of Sam's visions had been about. I never wanted Sam to turn into some superpowered freak, either, but it would've been nice to keep the visions.

Sam will have some sort of showdown with Lilith - either she will offer him Dean back in exchange for his life or in exchange for Sam begin her minion. Either way, Sam's powers will flare back to life.
I'm hoping? The season ends with Sam killing Lilith with his mind, and then setting off to find a hell's gate to march into hell and pull Dean out, with his eyes glittering black as he goes. ;)

Oh wow, you think it'll happen that soon? I never even considered that! I just assumed he'd fall over at the end.
Sam will have some sort of showdown with Lilith
I can totally see that happening.
or in exchange for Sam begin her minion
OMG! That's something else I didn't even think of! Ack! That...that would be terrible! Then we'd probably have Dean pitted against Sam next season, as Dean tries to turn Sam back to the good side and escape Lilith's clutches, her brainwashing or something to make Sam turn bad.
Either way, Sam's powers will flare back to life.

Holy cow, that would be creepy as hell!

Now me:
I think there have been hints, and I think this may have been one of the things that they would have developed more slowly over the extended season, if they had had time. There are two things in particular that make me think this *might* happen: The first is the fact that they brought up several times in the season a discussion about how Sam's powers *weren't* coming back, which seems a bit suspicious, and the second is a comment Jared himself made at CreationCon in November, where he indicated that Sam's powers were coming back. Now, that may just have been what Jared was playing in Sam's subtext, and may not have been what the writers were planning, but it made me sit up and take notice.
I'm terrible at guessing that way things go, however (unlike my roommate, who sees it ALL coming), so you can pretty much bet if I think it's going to happen, it won't. :)

Well, now we know that Sam's powers didn't come back. Yet. :-)
I personally loved the way this was handled, with Ruby giving us hints that Sam's powers are still there and then Lilith unable to kill Sam. I'll be perfectly happy now if Sam taps into those buried abilities next season to save Dean. But I don't want him to go Darkside for too long!

This leads to one of the big questions for next season; what is the extent of Sam's power and what will be the trigger that brings him into his own, if it wasn't Dean's death? Because it seemed to me that Sam responded to Lilith's attack on himself, not on Dean ... a reflexive reaction, not even a defensive one.
The attendant questions are:
How will Sam get the knowledge and training to use his power to defeat Lilith and either bring Dean back, or get Lilith to (which is where I'm pretty sure we're going next season)?
And now that Ruby is incapacitated or utterly gone, will Bobby be his "guide" (which I would LOVE to see)?
And will next season's opener jump back into the story immediately where we left off? (I hope so.)
I don't think Sam's power is buried any longer ... it is definitely awake and we saw him use it. The full extent of what he can do, how he learns to control it, and how he chooses to use it, are all that remain in question.
IMHO. ;-)
no subject
Oh, I agree, but it was the fact that Sam didn't suddenly use them to save Dean at the last minute that made me happy.
what is the extent of Sam's power and what will be the trigger that brings him into his own
I've been thinking the same thing! Will it just come naturally to him now, no "trigger" required since he used them, apparently unconsciously, to defend himself against Lilith? He's already "online" now?
a reflexive reaction, not even a defensive one.
Yeah, it seemed like that to me, too. Something inside him turned itself on when Lilith tried to zap him.
How will Sam get the knowledge and training to use his power to defeat Lilith and either bring Dean back, or get Lilith to
That's a really good question!
will Bobby be his "guide"
PLEASE, PLEASE! I love Bobby to death and the boys need someone like him in their lives.
And will next season's opener jump back into the story immediately where we left off? (I hope so.)
Even though I don't want it, something tells me it won't pick up right from there, but maybe the next day or so, kinda like when Sam "died".
I don't think Sam's power is buried any longer ... it is definitely awake and we saw him use it.
Nope, it's back and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it next year. :-)

And now, if you will excuse me, I need to get back to my nervous breakdown.

Ah, rats, I'm at work and don't have time to read your story! Wah!
And now, if you will excuse me, I need to get back to my nervous breakdown
May I join you? :-)

I am afraid they will kill off Bobby. If they do, I will be very pissed off.

I only want Dean to go to Hell if we get to SEE Hell. We've heard about it enough and even had John go there, but haven't experienced it through the eyes of one of the characters. I don't want Dean to go to Hell and get rescued by Sam and then have it be like in IMToD where Dean wakes up and remembers nothing. That will make this entire season utterly pointless.
But like you said, because we want it, Kripke will deny us. [sigh]
I am afraid they will kill off Bobby.
OMG, do not even go there!!

1st option - They will spend the entire episode trying to find ways to save Dean, calling everyone they know and looking in every book, and they will think they have finally found something that will work, but in the final scene it won't work and Dean will die.
2nd - Dean will die at the end of the first act and the rest of the episode will be spent with Dean in Hell and Sam tracking down the colt so he can get Dean out of Hell himself. The ep will end in the cemetery with Sam inserting the colt into the gate of hell and the door unlocks.
3rd - Something unthinkable where Ruby somehow has something to do with anything.
4th - Lilith shows up and Sam trades himself to her for Dean's soul.
5th - The work the whole episode, and call everyone they know trying to find a way to save Dean and in the end they think they've found a way and it works and Dean is saved.

Well, you kinda got this one, in regards to Ruby wanting Sam to go darkside so that he could save Dean. But Sam never did and poor Dean did die. [sob]
2nd - Dean will die at the end of the first act
Didn't quite work out that way, but wow, that would've been one hell of an episode and I would've loved to have seen Sam open the gate again.
3rd - Something unthinkable where Ruby somehow has something to do with anything.
LOL! Well, it seemed that she would be the one to rush in and turn Sam's powers on and technically save the day, but thankfully it didn't happen!
4th - Lilith shows up and Sam trades himself to her for Dean's soul.
You got the Lilith part right, but Sam didn't have anything she wanted!
and in the end they think they've found a way and it works and Dean is saved.
Oh how I wish! But instead we got poor Dean hanging by meat hooks! Ack!

My hope: Ruby gets torn apart (on camera) by hellhounds.
My guess: Sam goes darkside.
Less than three hours to go!
no subject
Dean goes to Hell,
Boy, you nailed that one in a big way!
nd the first 3 (maybe four, but that'll be pushing it)eps of Season 4 will be Jensen-free. AGH! THE HORROR!
My guess is two eps next season. If it's anymore than that I'll go nuts!
My hope: Ruby gets torn apart (on camera) by hellhounds.
That would've been awesome, but she's still dead!
My guess: Sam goes darkside.
Nope, didn't get that one correct - but as for next season? I think you hit the nail on the head.
no subject
But I would like it if the Trickster was on the boys side and generated another Dean for the hell hounds to go after, or maybe he can change the whole course of things.
If Dean does go to Hell then I think Sam should kill Ruby because she did once promise she would tell Sam how to save Dean. Or maybe Ruby could die anyway. We could trade her for Dean?
no subject
I think Dean will go to Hell.
Boy, you nailed that one!
But I would like it if the Trickster was on the boys side
Ooh, I would've loved it if the Trickster had something to do with the whole situation, because I'm totally convinced, after Mystery Spot, that he's tangled up in this some way.
If Dean does go to Hell then I think Sam should kill Ruby
Well, it wasn't Sam that killed her, but she's still dead!
no subject
I do hope we see the trickster again. I thought he seemed kind of concerned for Sam at the end of Mystery Spot and I wasn't really liking him up to that point. But after the talk he had with Sam I changed my mind and now like him. I think there is more to him than meets the eye and I hope we get to find out what.
no subject
God, you and me, both! I'm sure we haven't see the last of Ruby the demon, though. I think she'll be crawling back out of Hell and into another body. And as long as it's not Katie I'll be happy!
I do hope we see the trickster again.
Me, too. There was some ulterior motive he had going on in Mystery Spot and I want to find out what it was.

1. I don't believe Dean will go to hell. I still can't figure out how he gets out if he does, so he can't be going. He just can't.
2. My sweet Sammy will not go darkside - he might pretend he is going darkside, but he won't go. He just can't.
3. Bobby is not going to die. He just can't.
4. This just popped into my head - would Bobby make some kind of deal to save Dean? I think he would be willing to do it, but I don't see Lilith being happy with trading Dean for Bobby. And I don't want Bobby to do that. He just can't.
5. In the previews it certainly looks like Dean dies - I hope that's just someone's nightmare. I know it's mine.
We are going to be left with a h*ll of a cliffhanger, I just know it. I see another SenToo Pt.1 developing. At least we know SPN will be back next year.

1. I don't believe Dean will go to hell.
Whoops! Got that one wrong in a big way! LOL!
2. My sweet Sammy will not go darkside
So far we have a winner with this one. Sammy is still sweet Sammy, but I think next season that's gonna change. :-(
3. Bobby is not going to die. He just can't.
I'm totally up in the air about this one, since we don't know what happened to Bobby after seeing him in the house across the street.
4. This just popped into my head - would Bobby make some kind of deal to save Dean?
With Bobby's whole "family don't end with blood" I could've absolutely seen him doing that.
5. In the previews it certainly looks like Dean dies - I hope that's just someone's nightmare. I know it's mine.
And we have another winner! Unfortunately, though, eh? [sigh] What a nightmare indeed!
We are going to be left with a h*ll of a cliffhanger, I just know it. I see another SenToo Pt.1 developing
You nailed that one! Another "dead" character that needs to be resurrected. Ack!
no subject
Well, this is certainly a way to see how good our guesses were! I hope I'm going to be able to explain what I think in a way that makes sense!
See, I'm in the minority here but I do not believe Dean is in hell. First of all, while I have no idea what Hell looks like, it's been described on SPN as fire and heat, etc., etc., so I would have expected that last scene, if it was of hell, to at least have some red/orange/fiery colors in there somewhere (besides poor Dean's blood). But besides that, I think Lilith was interrupted before she was able to get Dean all the way to hell. Some people have theorized that he is in purgatory or some halfway place. But I think Dean has escaped into his mind. The way the scene was shot, going into his eye, going into his head, and also the scene reminded me of all of the sci-fi movies (like Fantastic Voyage) and science shows that attempt to describe how the brain works, with nerves and synapses (did I spell that right?) firing around them. I think that Dean is still alive but the pain and fear and shock (and aided by Lilith's plan to send him to hell being somehow foiled by Sam) caused his body to shut down. I will explain below what I hope is going to happen in 4.01!
I'm so happy about this - but he does have some sort of power, which I think came out much like he moved that chest in Nightmare, when Dean was about to die. If I am wrong and Dean is in fact dead and in hell, then I believe Sam will probably go darkside to save him. But what I hope will happen is that, with Dean alive and at his side, Sam will be able to use his power for good.
I think he's still in the house across the street, or at least he still was when the ep ended. He couldn't get in - the house was surrounded by demons. My hope for Ep. 4.1 is that it will pick up where this one ended. When Lilith fled back to wherever she came from, I'm hoping her demon army left with her. Bobby will then be able to get into the house, where he is going to figure out that Dean is still alive, but catatonic, and he and Sam will have to reach him in some manner. That's what I hope, anyway!
Again, I really, really hope I was wrong with this one!
Little did I know when I mentioned SenToo that Anna Galvin was going to be in the episode!
So anyway, that's what I think. Dean is not dead. "Damp not dead" isn't going to work this time though! I'll have to think of another saying to get through the summer!
So, am I completely off the wall?
no subject
< So, am I completely off the wall?
I don't think so. I think that Sam repelled Lilith too soon; sadly, the hell hounds had the chance to do their work, but I don't think she had the opportunity to "collect" Dean. It may have been that she didn't have enough time, or it may have been something that Sam did reflexively (as it seems his immunity to her power appeared).
Where Dean is exactly, I don't know.
But another thing I'm wondering about; Dean's poor ruined body. We have seen that people collected by hellhounds are torn apart, but after their death, their bodies are restored enough that they are diagnosed with outer-body-benign things like heart attacks.
So I'm wondering....
If Dean wasn't collected, will his body revert to wholeness?
Can Bobby provide the knowledge necessary to bring Dean back from where he is?
Will Sam be the agent who acts on that knowledge, or....
Will the Trickster show up and get involved ... my hope ... or....
I'm told Kripke has said that a new supernatural being that the boys haven't encountered before will show up in the fourth season; will it be involved in Dean's rescue?
Lots of questions.
But no, *I* agree with the minority who doesn't think that Dean's in hell ... and I think that he may not even be dead.
no subject
I'm so happy that you agree with me! And I find your questions very interesting. I so want Sam to be the one who *brings Dean back*, and I would love to see Bobby provide the knowledge to help Dean. I really hope you are right about bodies being restored to some semblance of wholeness after hellhound attacks, and the Trickster maybe being involved would be interesting. I would also love the amulet to somehow figure into Dean's rescue. You could certainly see clearly that he was still wearing it wherever he is now!
Thanks again for your thoughts!
