Ratings for All Hell Breaks Loose, part 1

From Marc Berman at the Programming Insider:

Also in the 9-10 p.m. hour (in addition to NBC’s aforementioned The Office and Scrubs) was a second episode of Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader (Viewers: #3, 8.61 million; A18-49: #4, 2.9/ 8), and The CW’s Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.84 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3). Although this is only speculation, I am will to bet that upcoming CW drama Reaper will inherit the Thursday 9 p.m. hour out of Smallville, with Supernatural moving to Sunday next season. What do you think?

Half hour breakdown:

Supernatural
9:00 p.m. V: 2.90 million, A18-49: 1.2/ 3
9:30 p.m. V: 2.79 million, A18-49: 1.2/ 3

For comparison:

Top Model: 4.94 million
Gilmore Girls: 3.96 million
Smallville: 3.36 million
One Tree Hill: 2.95 million
Girlfriends (one hour finale): 2.88 million
Everybody Hates Chris: 2.58 million
All of Us: 2.44 million
Veronica Mars: 1.88 million

Ok, wow - 2.84 million? That's really, really not good. :-( That makes it the second lowest rated this season, just above BUABS, which had 2.83 million. And when the absolute final numbers are posted later tonight, All Hell may slip down down to last place. How could the first part of a season finale do so badly?? This makes me so incredibly frustrated.

Not sure what I think about SPN maybe moving to Sunday. I want it off Thursday but is Sunday a good fit for our show?

The final numbers actually went up a little - and a rumored CW schedule

Barb, first of all, I certainly feel your frustration. How are people not flocking to this show? But both GA and CSI had some stunt May sweeps stuff (Lady Heather was back on CSI and GA - well, I really have no idea what they were doing but I remember seeing lots of commercials), and for some reason there seem to be a lot of people who need to find out if they are smarter than a 5th grader. Well, we know we are because we are smart enough to watch SPN!

Travis posted the final numbers to Marc's forum - they were (I'm including SV, too, for comparison):

Smallville
- 3.430 million viewers
- 2.2/4 HH
- 1.4/4 A18-49
- 1.5/6 A18-34

Supernatural
- 2.901 million viewers
- 1.7/3 HH
- 1.2/3 A18-49
- 1.2/4 A18-34

So we still had 85% retention out of SV, which is good in anyone's book, especially considering the competition.

And there is a rumored CW schedule making the rounds:

Monday
Everybody Hates Chris
Aliens in America
Girlfriends
The Game

Tuesday
Beauty and the Geek
One Tree Hill

Wednesday
America's Next Top Model
Gossip Girl

Thursday
Smallville
Reaper

Friday
WWE Smackdown!

Saturday
Off the air

Sunday
CW Now
Viewsers
Wild at Heart
Supernatural

Midseason
The World According to Barnes

The site that posted this (and it has been repeated on one of Marc's forums) is here:

The site further states: This new and updated schedule was provided by someone who works closely with the CW for their promotions and who was given these combinations to work with for graphic designs.

I personally would love to see SPN moved to Sunday, for several reasons. First, anything is better than Thursday at 9:00. Second, Desperate Housewives, while still pulling in fairly large numbers, is down a lot from last year and hopefully will continue to fall. I tried to keep watching it after they unceremoniously dropped RB as a regular, but I frankly got tired of the continuing saga of Susan's bad choices, the annoying new Scavo child and her crazy mother, etc., etc. I watch Cold Case at 9:00 now, but only because I have no reason to change the channel after The Amazing Race. I checked Marc's column for last Sunday night at 9:00 and found this:

ABC dominated at 9 p.m. courtesy of Desperate Housewives at 16.92 million viewers and a 6.5/16 among adults 18-49, but one year earlier the final national performance was a considerably heftier 21.33 million viewers and an 8.6/20 among adults 18-49. Do the math, and that’s a decrease of 4.41 million viewers and 24 percent among adults 18-49. Am I the only one fed up with Susan’s annoying shtick? How did Mike happen to find her in the woods so easily? CBS’ competing, and older-skewing, Cold Case was second in total viewers (13.63 million) but fourth among adults 18-49 (3.2/8).

NBC that night had a special SNL program - they usually air Deal or No Deal there - I think DOND is going to wear itself out, much like Who Wants to be a Millionaire did a few years ago.

I think SPN would pull in a different viewer, guys that don't watch DH, younger people that don't watch Cold Case, etc. And like you, Barb, I remember how well XF did in the time period for lots of years. And for a purely selfish reason, I would finally have something to watch again after 9:00 on Sundays.

If this schedule is in fact true, I hope the fact that CW will be rerunning SPN on Sunday nights this summer will get people use to seeing the show there.

Lastly, someone posted a link to a site where someone uploaded one of those Verizon special clips, this one from next week's episode (I predict it will be a director's cut soon). I know you won't want to watch it, Barb - it is definitely spoilery, but in case anyone here does want to see it, go here:

OMG, I'm trying to figure out how they get out of this but, oh, our poor, broken Dean . . . .

Is it Thursday yet?

I'm a CSI fan, too, have been since the beginning, but that episode? Boring! And I didn't even really understand it! People chose that over SPN?? It kinda saddens me that we have so many fringe fans, that pick and choose what episode of SPN to watch. :-(

Well thank goodness the numbers actually went UP. That doesn't happen too often and I was certain AHBL1 would drop down to last place. Still, 2.90 is nothing to get excited over, you know? Thanks for giving me the final numbers. I hadn't had a chance to go back to Marc's site and find them.

I, too, wouldn't mind seeing SPN move to Sunday's next year, for all of the reasons you stated. I think it could do well there, if given the chance. Looks like we'll find out on Thursday! [bites nails]
