The weekend wrap-up, part 3

And speaking of Gotham I met Bruce Wayne himself! David Mazouz was such a wonderful young man. It was a pleasure chatting with him. He was so pleased when I told him that I started watching Gotham for Bruce and Alfred's story and how impressed I've been with his performance. He also had his dog with him all weekend, walking him around the convention center with a Batman cape on the pup. :-)

Continuing on with Gotham, I met Penguin! Robin Lord Taylor is such a doll! Sweetest guy ever. Had a lovely chat with him. I had no idea that he went to college here in Chicago. I told him he was delightfully creepy as Penguin and he really laughed, said he took that as a compliment. :-) I asked him if his leg hurt walking like that and he said it's actually his other one, since he puts all the weight on it. But said it's worth it since he's having such a blast playing Penguin.

Here I am with Neal McDonough. Had a very nice chat with him at his autograph table. Told him I'd been a fan of his since Medical Investigations. He was really pleased by that! Then we talked about Damien Dhark and playing a bad guy and how it was so much more fun than playing a good guy. :-)

My last photo was with Katrina Law. She was so awesome and so freaking beautiful! She loved hearing that I thought Nyssa was such a strong female character. Then we talked about archery and how she learned it filming Spartacus first so she was well prepared for Arrow. She was so pleasant to talk to.

What I absolutely loved about the autograph experience was that everyone I went to just wanted to take their time and chat with you. They were all truly thankful for the fan support and made sure to tell us. They were all interested in what we thought of their shows and their characters. They just wanted to engage with us. And not only were they taking selfies with fans, but I saw several record video messages for people's friends who couldn't be there. How sweet is that? It was SUCH a contrast to the crappy Creation convention where they push you through the autograph lines and you get 0.5 seconds with each guest.

OH! And get this - take note Creation! This con did ten times the volume of photo ops that a single Creation con does - and the photos were ready IN 45 SECONDS! I kid you not. By the time you left the photo op room and walked down the hallway, the Celeb Photo Op people were literally standing there holding your photo for you. I was dumbfounded! And it takes freaking Creation four hours!

Next up…panel photos!

Fantastic!! I'm so glad you had such a good time. Sounds like Creation could learn A LOT from these folks. How were the costs, in comparison? Even if they're the same/more, it sounds like a much better deal just because you get a little more quality time.

I paid $450 for the Gold pass (which came with 2 photo ops and 2 autographs), compared to the $800 that Creation charges for SPN (with NO photo ops included and barely any autographs anymore) and I got to meet over twice as many actors from four different shows. I forgot to mention that even though Stephen Amell’s autograph line was huge, he personalized everyone’s. Funny how Creation refuses to let Jensen and Jared do that and there’s a third of the amount of people in line in comparison. Jerks. Weird thing is, I could swear I saw Adam from Creation there, like scouting out the competition. I saw him twice. I hope he’s shaking in his boots. He’s not the only game in town anymore!

WOW, that's such a good deal!!!

Yeah, it's such bullshit they won't allow personalizations. Although...I have seen some surface, so who knows.

I don't doubt that for a second!! I wish someone would cause them to lose money!!! They probably had such a party when it was announce SPN was renewed. CA-CHING for them on booking more cons (and frankly, the boys too...they have to be raking it in at this point).

WOW, just WOW! Reading your last post I just want to go even more! So the guests really took there time, like they did at DragonCon? It's great when they do that, because it tells you that they are interested in you and not just in your money!
I'm really happy that you got to go and had this great experience! Maybe we can go together next time :).

*big hug*

Hey buddy!! So good to hear from you! I’ve missed you!

Yes, every single guest was all about the fan interaction and chatting and personalizing your autograph. It was wonderful. No being pushed through like at Creation. Not even with Stephen Amell!

I’d love to go to one with you! With the huge turnout they got I would definitely think they’d be back here next year. Since this is the first year for this con all over the country they’re trying out different cities - San Jose, New York, Chicago, Atlanta. And if they don’t for some reason, I would travel to another city to attend one. So yes, make plans now! Because you would love this con!

If you want to keep up with them their website is: www.heroesfanfest.com and their Twitter is: @heroesfanfest

David Mazouz looks like a lovely young man.

He truly was. He really impressed me. I know he’s a good actor, but was unsure how a 14 year old would be in public, surrounded by hundreds of fans. But he was having a great time and was very professional. :-)

Sounds like an awesome con, and your pictures are great!!

Creation could learn a lot from these people :)

Thanks! Glad you liked all my photos. :-) It was the best con I’ve been to in more years than I can count. After suffering through Creation’s and even DragonCon to a certain extent, it was a refreshing change not to be mad and upset all the time! What a novelty!

I forgot to mention that even though Stephen Amell’s autograph line was huge, he personalized everyone’s. Funny how Creation refuses to let Jensen and Jared do that and there’s a third of the amount of people in line in comparison. Jerks. SG in Sept is probably the last Cretin con I'll ever attend. There are too many other great cons now. Too bad they have the monopoly on Supernatural, that will keep them in business I guess.

Wizard World cons are ok, but they're so huge that it's still frustrating at times. I cannot stand their policy of making you stand in line to trade in one piece of paper for another one; what a waste of time!! At least Cretin doesn't do that.

The only con I enjoy completely is Shore Leave. It's run by fans, and they know what they're doing. I don't ever remember being angry or frustrated at Shore Leave, and the only long line I ever stood in there was for my David Hewlett photo op lol.

SG in Sept is probably the last Cretin con I'll ever attend. There are too many other great cons now.

I have a one day ticket to the SPN one here in Chicago just so I can meet Jeffrey Dean Morgan (finally!) but after that and SG, I’m done. Wanted to go to the last SG and haven’t had any desire to go to an SPN one for the last several years. But JDM had to suck me back in one last time. :-)

Too bad they have the monopoly on Supernatural, that will keep them in business I guess.

I would love to see what kind of contract they have with Jensen, Jared, etc that binds them exclusively to Creation. Like making a deal with a crossroads demon! LOL!

Wizard World cons are ok, but they're so huge that it's still frustrating at times.

I absolutely agree. That’s why I started only going on Sundays. I just couldn’t handle the insanity of Saturday anymore. And about 90% of the guests are there and the crowd is much more manageable.

The only con I enjoy completely is Shore Leave. It's run by fans, and they know what they're doing. I don't ever remember being angry or frustrated at Shore Leave

Since the only con I used to completely enjoy (MediaWest, also run by fans) has gone so far down the toilet, I’m thinking I need to check out Shore Leave instead! Thanks for the recommendation. :-)

I just found out that Heroes and Villains will be back in Chicago next year! Yes! Can’t wait to do it all over again!

I love katrina since spartacus she had a such alchimy with andy. Rules creation and prizes suck so expensives.

I didn’t even know Katrina was on Spartacus until I asked her about her archery skills and she told me she learned them first on that show. She was such a delight to talk to. So very friendly.
