Portland 2011 - Day Five - last day!

We spent our last full day in Portland mainly down by the riverfront.

First stop was the Pittock Mansion, which was very educational, the home of George Pittock, who started the Oregonian newspaper. It was  just gorgeous inside.

Next we had a sailboat tour on the Willamette River that turned out to be a LOT of fun. Our captain was fantastic. Quite funny and full of  information. Plus he's sort of a Leverage fan! We got to see a couple of teams training for the dragon boat races, so that was pretty cool.  It was such a gorgeous day that the three of us could've stayed on the  boat for hours. :-)

We hung around the riverfront for awhile, having lunch, window shopping and then having some yummy ice cream while people watching. I never knew that Portland was such a dog-friendly town! I swear to God, all we saw for days were pocket dogs everywhere! LOL!

Our last stop of the day was out in Clackamas, where the Leverage studios are located. Since the convention had been cancelled we thought we'd just take a drive out there to say we'd at least been to where they film. I took a photo of Dean Devlin's parking spot. :-)

Then unfortunately it was back out to the hotel to start getting packed up to go home the next day. :-(

All in all the trip was AMAZING. I'm so glad we all decided to go out to Portland anyway and I couldn't have asked for better traveling companions. We made each other laugh so hard so often my stomach hurt.  *g*  Not to mention just talking and talking and talking all day and well into the night. There's just nothing better than when fangirls get together. :-)

Hugs to you both, [livejournal.com profile] celtprincess13 and [livejournal.com profile] hollylyn1217. Let's do this again soon, okay?

Who's ready for a sailboat cruise??

Check out our fine vessel:

The Portland waterfront:

Dragon boat race practice:

I'm used to the bridges over the Chicago River opening in the middle with each side folding up, but in Portland the entire bridge lifts straight up!

This is the actual submarine used in the filming of The Hunt for Red October. It's currently docked and open for viewing at the Portland Science Museum:

The Leverage Studios!!!  By complete and total accident, as I swung the car into parking lot I ended up right in Dean Devlin's spot! LOL!

Yeah, I'm a dork. Sue me. [snort]

Check this out, as I pulled my phone out to take a photo of Dean's parking space to send to my friend [livejournal.com profile] charityflint, look what popped up.  It amused me to no end to see they've got their own WiFi hotspot!

Yep, now I'm a 100% sure that we'll check out Portland if we have enough time left on our trip.
So many nice pictures and your travel report really ask for more and a personal experience.
Thanks so much for sharing all this with us *hugs*

You guys are going to LOVE it there. I can see all of you with your feet in the Pacific ocean right now! Speaking of the ocean, here’s the only pic I was able to get of the Lighthouse near Ecola State Park. It was pretty far away and out in the middle of the water. And it looked really small, too! I’m just going to have to go back one day and take a real tour of the coast and see ALL of the lighthouses.
