Is Sam Winchester moonlighting?

The sheriff’s department recovered a .357 Magnum revolver from Branning and stolen property including an “assortment of portable electronic items or devices,” said Warren County Investigator Sam Winchester.
So is Sam undercover or moonlighting as a cop to make some extra cash? ;-)
